Planned Parenthood's Pro-Abortion Christmas Cards Ready to Offend Again

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- They're back. Planned Parenthood's "Choice on Earth" Christmas cards that are panned as offensive each year are returning once again.

The redesigned card features the same slogan as previous years. This year's card features bubblegum pink snowflakes on the outside along with the infamous tagline.

On the inside, card buyers can go with Planned Parenthood's bland holiday greeting, "Warmest wishes for a peaceful holiday season," or purchase blank cards and create a greeting of their own.

"'Tis the season to share with family, friends, colleagues and loved ones the message of 'choice on earth.' Place your orders now for the 2004 Holiday Card," Planned Parenthood says on its online store web site.

But, pro-life groups are upset by Planned Parenthood's co-opting of a pro-life theme in the Bible -- "Peace on Earth" -- where an angel heralds the birth of Jesus Christ.

"In its continual attempt to 'normalize' abortion, Planned Parenthood has once again chosen to offend the Christian community by releasing the latest edition of its 'Choice on Earth' holiday cards," said Jim Sedlak, executive director of STOPP, a group that monitors Planned Parenthood.

"Contrary to the open-minded image the abortion organization aims to present for itself, Planned Parenthood has zero tolerance for anyone-or any religious group-that recognizes abortion as an evil act that kills a preborn baby," Sedlak added.

Pro-life advocates say "choice" is no more than a euphemism for abortion and it is exploitive to use a Christian holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus to commemorate the death of millions of unborn children.

The Christmas cards are part of an overall strategy that pro-life people must not miss, Father Frank Pavone tells LifeNews.com.

"For years now, the pro-abortion forces have realized that they will lose touch with the American public unless they start presenting abortion in the envelope of moral and even religious language," Pavone, director of Priests for Life, explained. "Hence they speak more and more of a choice 'between a woman and her God.'"

Last year, Planned Parenthood claimed national outrage over the card and the public attention it received helped spike sales more than 25 percent over the previous year. (perhaps the best way to defeat it is to ignore it SDM)

"Our holiday card has proven to be very popular with America's pro-choice majority for almost a decade because it sends an inclusive seasonal message for people of all faiths. I am proud of the card," Planned Parenthood president Gloria Feldt said of last year's offering.

WASHINGTON -- The government approved on Friday the first birth-control pill specially designed to reduce the frequency of women's periods -- from once a month to four times a year.

Hence the name: Seasonale.

The pills aren't a new chemical. They contain the same combination of low-dose estrogen and progestin found in many oral contraceptives.

Nor is the idea of menstrual suppression new. For decades, many doctors have told women how they can skip a period by continually taking the active birth-control pills in each month's supply and ignoring the week of dummy pills in each packet.

But Seasonale promises to make the option a little more convenient, with packaging that gives women 12 straight weeks of active pills and then a week of dummy pills for their period. And the Food and Drug Administration's approval means menstrual suppression could become more common, as Seasonale's advertising alerts women to the option.

Seasonale isn't perfect, the FDA cautioned.

Birth Control For Cockroaches Might Result From Gene Discovery By Cornell Researchers


SAN FRANCISCO -- Cornell University researchers have taken a first step in developing safe and effective birth control for America's number-one household pest, the cockroach. The entomologists say they have identified and cloned a key gene in the reproductive system of the male cockroach.


Success in cloning five P450 genes from the German cockroach was announced by Zhimou Wen today (March 28) at the national meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS) at the Moscone Convention Center, in San Francisco. Wen is a graduate student working in the laboratory of Jeffrey G. Scott, professor of entomology in Cornell's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

"Cockroaches - specifically, the brown-banded and the German cockroaches - are the number-one urban household pest in terms of frequency," Scott explained in an interview before the ACS meeting. "They are the target of tons of neurotoxin pesticides every year but they keep coming back for more. What we really need is an effective, nontoxic treatment - a birth-control method - to reduce cockroach populations without bothering other insects or humans, either."

Abortion pill to stay on market

The FDA said yesterday the abortion pill RU-486 will remain on the market despite criticisms from opponents who want the pill banned because they say three women have died after taking it.
"We feel the safety profiles of this drug are adequate to allow the drug to be used safely. But we'll continue to monitor it," said Dr. Steven Galson, acting director of the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.
Effective immediately, the drug will carry a "strengthened" black-box warning, advising of risks including death from bacterial infections, septic shock and heavy bleeding. There also is a renewed warning of risks associated with tubal pregnancies. (Worked with tobacco SDM)
"We are concerned about any drug that may be related to serious medical complications and death," Dr. Galson said. "But infections, bleeding and death can result from medical and surgical abortions and even childbirth."
One of those calling for the removal of RU-486 from the market is Monty Patterson, 51, of Livermore, Calif. His 18-year-old daughter, Holly, died of septic shock caused by inflammation of the uterus seven days after she took RU-486 to end a pregnancy last year.
"My wife, Helen, and I are pleased that the FDA is adding new black-box warnings," Mr. Patterson said. But he added that it wasn't enough.
At a press briefing yesterday, Dr. Galson discussed the deaths of three American women who took RU-486. He said the deaths occurred between October 2001 and January 2004. (White women no big deal SDM)
The first woman's death occurred after a ruptured tubal pregnancy. She had been given RU-486, even though the drug does not terminate that type of pregnancy.
Miss Patterson's death occurred in September 2003. The FDA said it was not until August this year that it learned of the death of another young woman in January. Like Miss Patterson, that woman died of a bacterial infection. (Irish white chick even lesser deal SDM)
"We've investigated the three deaths and don't have information to know that the drug caused the events," Dr. Galson said.
The drug in question, approved by the FDA in 2000, is known generically as mifepristone. It is manufactured by Danco Laboratories of New York, and its trade name is Mifeprex.
It has been taken by about 360,000 women in the United States since its approval. (all those white babies how many nogs? SDM)
"We've received 600 reports overall" of adverse events involving people who have taken the drug, Dr. Galson said.
He said Mifeprex already bore a "black-box" warning — the FDA's strongest safety alert — on its label. (they had unprotected sex with a possible AIDS partner and are about to kill a baby in thier womb, I am sure saftey concerns are a priority SDM)
In August 2002, three groups — Concerned Women for America (CWA), the Christian Medical Association and the American Association of Pro-Life Gynecologists — filed a petition with the FDA, requesting the withdrawal of RU-486 because of safety concerns. (Christians fighting for the cause SDM)
Yesterday, Wendy Wright, spokeswoman for CWA, said she was puzzled by the FDA's refusal to say Miss Patterson's death was caused by the abortion drug.
"The coroner's report said her death was caused by a drug-induced abortion, so there clearly was a relationship."
