Assuming saving money = making money, I might be in the right place, here
When I find an old out-dated computer on the roadside, I take it to my slaughterhouse and gut it of healthy internal organs.
These 3 cooling fans are all normed to a standard size.
The German 1 on the left was amputated from an old computer which was still running a DOS program.
The Nip 1 in the middle was built into an old Taiwanese computer of similar vintage.
The Mickey Mouse fan of unknown origin, on the right, was replaced after only a year’s service. I installed a German fan identicle to the 1 pictured, in it’s place, and it’s still going, even after leaving the computer running all day long every session. And I’m on the computer almost every day!

KL Maker,

Have you thought of going into the junk pc disposal business? You could sell the scrap metal, build PCs and give them away as a tax break, keep any useful parts, and to boot, you could actually charge companies a small fee to take these items away.

In fact where I am at in Atlanta, there are businesses which take your 'junk' away, for a fee. What I believe these people do is solicit the rich, resell or keep for themselves whatever is nice, and donate anything of value for tax purposes. Having a business like this as a non-profit would be very lucrative I suppose.

I thought this was a coup thread. And all I got was a dumpster diving tip.

There are profitable companies here who exchange a client company's entire computer system and replace them with brand new ones. The old computers are refurbished, when defective, and sold.

Even these 3.5 inch drives were better. Back then the real thing was built in the country of copy. These things are generally unreliable and with the invention of the rewritable burner, they are almost obsolete. I last used 1 to store controversial data before giving the computer for service

Here is a company that repairs computer modules. They have a monopoly and charge 70 € just to proof the thing:

Don’t use this refill kit. The o-ring is so tight, that as soon as the plunger moves, too much energy gets released at once, pumping too much ink into the cartridge at too high a pressure, resulting in blowing the seals. Had I known this would have happened, I would have enlarged the ventilation opening, using a small drill bit.
You could, however, extract ink out of the original syringe, using a smaller one and then refill the cartridge with the latter without damaging the sensitive valves
