Over 300,000 Poles were in the Wehrmacht.

When Austria was annexed under the Anschluss in 1938 , two Wehrkreise were added XVII and XVIII. When the left hand half of Poland was captured by Germany in 1939, a further two Wehrkreise were formed ...in Poland (Wehrkreise XX and Wehrkreise XX1) which recruited from the Wehrbezirk areas of Preussische Stargard, Starogard Gdanski, Kwidzyn, Poznan, Lesznow, Inowroclaw, kalisz, Lodz, Warsaw, Cracow ,Lwow , Grudziadz, Torun, Brodnica, Bydgoszcz, .......all majority ethnic polish areas.

So its unsurprising that a significant number of people in Poland had parents or grandparents in the Wehrmacht?.
