First, let me thank all those involved for making this forum! It is very White of you.

Now, how about a spiritual forum? Indeed, we must have one, otherwise Oden and Jesus will get mad and smite us.

Oh yes, and a European forum would be nice as well. Not that we don't like you yankees, but it's still nice to have a place where you can discuss all things European.

I was just watching a good Vienna performance of Lohengrin last night and thinking how right Ortrud is when she calls down the curses of the old Gods on the Christians, who have turned their backs on their culture and traditions.
Wonderful thing Wagner - jew free:)

Wagner sure knew, without shying away, what to do with the Jew, and his lie of the day!

I hear he has dwarves manning a mine in Lohengrin, and the king wants the mining to move faster and faster...something like that. Eventually it all ends in disaster. Apparently the mine (or is it a mill? I should read up on the classics) is a symbol of capitalism, and the dwarves are just a shorter version of Jews.

The dwarfs and gold lust stuff - that is in the four ring operas. Very great music and pretty ok psychology too. When the Gods cross a bridge made out of a rainbow to enter Valhalla for the first time...there has never been music with more grandeur - it reminds me that we are the greatest people who have ever inhabited the earth. Wagner's operas are full of sublime music - and they are mostly all very spiritual too (why I'm dragging him into your spiritual thread, Fredrik). About self sacrifice and redemption - Christian but with a great fascination for the old Norse Gods too.
George Bernard Shaw wrote a famous piece on the Ring operas where he argues that they are a allegorical argument for destroying the world of greed we live in, before a world of love can replace it. Sounds good to me:)

Hello, Nonomen! Long time no see!

Yes! I have a CD with the best of Wagner, and The God's Entering Valhalla is on it. There were a number of ways to enter Valhalla, but the Rainbow Bridge, guarded by Heimdal, is the easiest way. It will stand until Ragnarök, when it breaks and ends the life of the giants storming across it. (There's a story about practically everything, what role it will have on the day of Ragnarök)

Yep, that's true. Wagner had an idea of how he would only play the Ring opera once and thereby light the fire of spiritual revolution to sweep across Germany. At the end of the opera he would gather the notes and the script in his arms and throw himself in a bonfire. But he just toyed with the idea, for some reason he never went through with it. :)
