spring is here, and what is even better than IPSC or IDPA, is the "3 gun match." In such a competition, there is mixed use of rifles, pistols, and shotguns. Often different arms used in the very same course of fire. I like IPSC/IPDA, but I like this even better. Also, it's a way for riflemen to "even up" with IPSC shooters who often become very specialized and otherwise hard to match in terms of score. Moreover, I find it lends a certain "offensive" element which rifles bring whereas IDPA can become a strictly defensive sort of thing. I have always prefered to throw the first punch so that appeals more to my particular mentality.

Join a gun club near you. Once you're making the circuits you will find out where and when these types of matches are held. Good place to meet other fine folk as well.

well I went to my early summer 3 gun match and it got rained out halfway throught the match. it was going slow as hell because so many people showed up almost 60 guys. I cleaned up on the stage with the longest rifle shots but in the other stages my mediocre pistol scores pulled me down. We split right before the main SG stage so I couldnt blast away at that. All in all I was happy I went and got some trigger time but let me tell you I hope it doesnt get rained out again.

And let me tell you, this was not just rain-- hell we were shooting in the rain. This was flood warning style torrential downpour. Now fuck-all if I'm going to have to detail-strip all my weapons, I'm not that hardcore!

3 gun match season is here.

here is a list of 3 gun matches near you.

I suggest that before you go to a 3 gun match, you first go to a local IDPA or IPSC match to learn the basics of firearm comp and safety.
