I was in Walmart last evening and did some research on the disposable cell phone route for use in Knoxville. A pre-paid cell phone can be had for only $15 plus the cost of the pre-paid phone card the cost of which depends upon how many minutes you desire.
There is no personal information that need be entered to activate these phones. I asked and made sure of this fact. Just buy the card, call the number on the pre-paid phone card and enter that card's information via the key pad into the phone to "activate" it with the amount of minutes purchased. That's it.
Thought you all might also wish to know about these. A bit cheaper than originally thought in an earlier post here.

In Germany the procedure is not that easy. When you buy a prepaid you have to show your id-card and the data are stored.
Therefore, if you want to call someone and make absolutely sure the call cannot be linked to you you have to use the old-fashioned method, throwing coins into a public phone.

My problem is I swore I'd never set foot in a Walmart again.

Order it online. If you don't care for Wally-World, try BestBuy I posted a pic of a $17.99 cell phone they offer somewhere on the forum a few days ago.

What you want are the SIM cards
Subscriber Identity Module (SIM), the removable smart card inside the phone.
That way you can use any phone, including your regular cell, but lose the traceability.
They are usually a lot cheaper than buying phones.
I tend to keep several on stand by at all times, so I can "create" a new phone identity at any time.
Most of the ones I have are from pre-paid operators, and work out at about $1-2, plus whatever credit you purchase.
Shop around, many phone operators will part with them for nothing, as an incentive for you to switch operators.
It's a better route in the long term, as you can use the phone at numerous events/activities, whilst changing the ID each time.

I can't stand that place either. Especially with all of their freaking cameras which is what I hate most about the place. However, I'm not going to shoot myself in the foot and will use the enemy's own stores to purchase equipment needed to fight them. The $3 saved is a meal, or a gallon of gas, or part of a pre-paid phone card.
The time will come when Wal-mart will be dealt with but I don't see any reason not to use them when it comes to buying goods used in urban warfare. Especially when it means that more goods can be purchased for the same amount of FRNs which will be used against the enemy in a direct engagement.
