Would like to go someplace warm this winter, and Costa Rica seems pretty cool.
But the gubbermint says CR is 96% Spanish. Now, are those real, White Spaniards, or mestizo bastards?
Either this, or save my money and go to Europe in the Spring of '05.

The government-surprise- is lying. I'd say the population is about one-third mestizo and around five percent black and mulatto. There is a lot of racial mixing but the upper classes are almost entirely white- like virtually all of Latin America. CR was a lot whiter until the Sandanista period in Nicaragua when hundreds of thousand of Nicas fled the war and collapsing economy. Few left when the Sandanista regime fell, and they are still coming and regularly complain of Costa Rican "racism" directed against them.
