he refuses to name which wealthy, religio-political, ethnic pressure-group was most responsible for the creation of the HRC's and is the most frequent intervenor in s13.1 cases.

Human rights complaint against Maclean's dismissed

TORONTO — The Canadian Human Rights Commission has dismissed a complaint filed by the Canadian Islamic Congress against Maclean's magazine.

The Congress claimed an article written by Mark Steyn, entitled “The Future Belongs to Islam” and posted on the Maclean's website in October 2006, made a number of statements and assertions that were likely to expose Muslims to hatred or contempt.

In its ruling, posted on Maclean's website, the commission acknowledges “the writing is polemical, colourful and emphatic, and was obviously calculated to excite discussion and even offend certain readers, Muslim and non-Muslim alike.”

But the commission also says that, overall, “the views expressed in the Steyn article, when considered as a whole and in context, are not of an extreme nature, as defined by the Supreme Court.”

Maclean's says it's pleased with the ruling, saying it's in keeping with the magazine's long-standing position that the article was a worthy piece of commentary, entirely within the bounds of normal journalistic practice.

Faisal Joseph, a lawyer for the Canadian Islamic Congress, says the Congress is disappointed the tribunal made its decision without hearing ”the compelling evidence of hate and expert testimony” the Congress recently presented in a complaint to the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal. That tribunal has yet to release a ruling.

A similar complaint filed with the Ontario Human Rights Commission failed when the commission ruled in April that it did not have jurisdiction to hear it.

It was only the CHRC that dismissed the case against MacLeans/Steyn. The Ontario HRC case was dismissed earlier. The BCHRC case against MacLeans/Steyn continues.

Technically, the complainant(s) could file essentially the same complaint in 13 jurisdictions (federal and 12 provincial). Precedent is irrelevant in these cases, so even if the defendant was found 'not guilty' in 12 out of 13 cases, he could still be subject to substantial fines and a lifetime ban on expressing the offending opinion. The HRC's rulings can be registered with a real court and if ignored, the offender can be sent to prison. Ask Tom Winnicki how that works.

It was only the CHRC that dismissed the case against MacLeans/Steyn. The Ontario HRC case was dismissed earlier. The BCHRC case against MacLeans/Steyn continues.

Good clarification, 8man. I was afraid my lack of interest in the details would trip me up, and it did. It's hard to keep the commissions straight from the tribunals and the real courts.

Still, what I said has already been borne out by half, and in time I'm still going to bet that Steyn will go unpunished, as will his cut-brother Levant.

Steyn gets off again. But then again Mr. Steyn to my knowledge has never written anything really 'dangerous' or equivalently any meaningful truth for the benefit of White people. Has he done research and written about law schools crawling with [CENSORED] or who really murdered freedom of speech in Canada or about vast amounts of crime in Canada committed by [CENSORED] or who's really responsible for letting into our countries all those Muslims that he complained about, it might have been a different story.

If it was up to me I'd rig the trial by giving Steyn a Muslim judge, have the judge speaking in Arabic so that Steyn doesn't even know what he's being charged with. Then when you put him in jail have Arab guards come into his cell and force him to study day and night for a test on the rules and applications of Sharia law. If he doesn't get at least a B on his first test make him sleep outdoors for two weeks in a green colored sleeping bag with an Islamic crescent sign on it.
