Husband blames hospital for wife’s death after labour
By: Majella Loftus

THE husband of a 38-year-old woman, who died shortly after giving birth to their second child, told an inquest in Castlebar he believed his wife would be alive today if “proper care and attention had been taken” at Mayo General Hospital.

Evelyn Flanagan of Hollyhill, Ballyheane, Castlebar, and originally of Ballindine, died on October 19 last, hours after giving birth. Her husband, Padraic, told her inquest that serious questions needed to be answered about the circumstances of Evelyn's death. His statement raised 43 questions, which he said remained unanswered.

After a relatively unremarkable pregnancy, Mrs Flanagan was due to give birth on October 6. She was admitted to Mayo General Hospital at 6pm on Monday, October 15. At ten days overdue, she was induced on four occasions over the next two days. Consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, Dr Murtada Mohamed, told Mrs Flanagan she was due for a caesarean section on Thursday, October 18, if she did not deliver the baby naturally in the meantime. She had no objection to this.

The following morning, Dr Mohamed told Mrs Flanagan she would be able to deliver naturally, and at 12.30pm, she gave birth to her daughter.

According to Mr Flanagan, a monitoring machine sounded a warning about his wife’s low blood pressure. He said that between 1pm to 2pm, it was not checked.

Shortly after 2pm he saw a steady flow of blood drip from the under-side of Mrs Flangan’s bed onto the floor. He told a midwife who said it was 'old' blood and proceeded to change the bedclothes. After a few minutes, the midwife checked the clothes again and found a large area of blood. Dr Mohamed was paged on two occasions.

At 4.30pm, Mrs Flanagan was brought to theatre and had a hysterectomy. She died at 4.30am the following morning, having lost two litres of blood. Her death had “a devastating effect” on her family.

Dr Mohamed said Mrs Flanagan was suffering from “moderate bleeding” after she delivered her baby. He said he was not at all concerned and gave her some drugs to contract her uterus and stop the bleeding. He was called back to the ward at 3.10pm, and the bleeding was heavy. He brought Mrs Flanagan to theatre, where the uterus was found to have ruptured on the right side. A hysterectomy was performed.

Mrs Flanagan had a cardiac arrest twice during the procedure and a third arrest in the intensive care unit. Dr Mohamed said the rupture caused an amniotic fluid embolism resulting in Mrs Flanagan’s death.

Mr Flanagan and his legal representatives rejected this opinion, and claimed death was due to massive blood loss. Dr Mohamed stated he never believed Mrs Flanagan would die from blood loss. He told the inquest that if he was to go back in time, he would not change any of his management of the patient. He denied categorically that Mrs Flanagan was allowed to bleed to death, and that not enough was done to treat her.

The inquest, which will hear from a total of over 20 witnesses, continues today (Tuesday).

End of article.

This is the same hospital I had my daughter in, now I am going to bare another child and this will be the hospital I go to again. So am I to look forward to dying or having my child die? 95% of the doctors at this hospital are nigs or muslims. The nurses are complete cunts, some not even fluent in English. This hospital was rated the dirtiest out of all the hospitals in Ireland this year. I don't know why I am still living here. This place is getting worse way too fast for me. Took about 7 - 10 years for things where I use to live to change so dramatically, but for Ireland it takes 1 year.

Summer, would it not be safer, even better, if you were to have your second baby at home ~ delivered by competent Native Irish mid wife? This hospital as described by yourself and the article is the last place to consider for birthing, it would it would seem ~ unless there is an emergency but even then the mid wife may have the edge over the under educated immigrant "doctors". The bloody butchers.

Oh I got you now. Thank you. I will take a look at that site. Is there any other site this comrade is on that I could possibly ask for his videos?

I don't know if they do that anymore. I can look into that though. I know my husband's aunt use to be a midwife and is now a nurse. But there are a lot of problems with having a baby at home. If the baby needed air upon arrival he would more likely die before arriving to the hospital, etc. I know this hospital is hell but there are loads of complications that could happen that if you were in a hospital you would get quicker and have a less chance of either the mother or child dying (I know that sounds opposite of this thread but not all hospitals here in Ireland are this bad.)

I am qualified for Irish citizenship, but the only problem is I am not sure if my grandparents still have their records or their birth certificates and what not. I have the form, but have not filled it out yet. It is kind of confusing the way some things are worded since it is Irish-English.

I still have some relatives there, but a hardly know them. Would be like seeing strangers. They have never visited U$rael too much. Also, they are getting old too. Lots of diaspora in my family which is shame that the majority did not stay there.

So a little side note to this story.

I went to my GP earlier today for my first checkup with my new baby. I was asked by the nurse if I wanted to be seen by Dr. Mohamed or not. I asked, 'He is still a doctor?!?" She said yes and said he was the one who delivered pretty much all the babies born in this area. I simply said, "No I want a different doctor," and thus was told she would give me someone else.

This is beyond belief. Only one doctor who does all the births and yet killed a mother and still has a flipping job?!?!? Only niggers and jews would get away with this, ugh.

The thing that worries me about my impending delivery is that I don't know who will be delivering my baby when the time comes.

All my Doctor has told me, is that "someone will, don't worry."

Whew! What a relief!

I love my Doctor, but she doesn't do deliveries unfortunately. Home-birth is looking more and more appealing, but I'm hesitant on having the first one at home. I've not had any complications so far, I'm healthy and strong... but I still hesitate.

I can't believe that this beast is still practicing! And who the hell is patronizing his services??

Mrs Fraser, what the hell is the problem?

We live in the modern age, with automobiles.
If there are any complications at all, it's a ten minute drive to the nearest hospital.

When I had my daughter, the only people there were two nurses. Excuse my language, but they were the two biggest bitches I have ever met. The male doctor didn't even come in until about 10 minutes after the delivery. So I am glad I didn't get touched by a non white person.

Someone told me about home birth as well. When I was pregnant with my daughter I wanted to give birth in a tub, lol. A spa to be exact so I could at least get massaged, lol. Just dreaming though. But I couldn't have her at home, I later realized.

I don't want to give you doubts but it would actually be safer if you were to give birth in a hospital unless there are paramedics on call who can save you if you are bleeding or your child if he/she needs oxygen, at least until you two get to the hospital.

P.s. I am going for my scan on Tuesday. From what my GP said he thinks I am between 12 - 14 weeks. But I am hoping they can tell me if I am having a boy or a girl. That drove me crazy during my first pregnancy. I wanted to know so bad, so I went a total of 3 times to get scanned just to be sure, lol. :P

Ugh, yeah. Just because you have a car means squat. You could bare a child at home who needs oxygen immediately. For you to get in your car and drive to the hospital your child will definitely die.

Doula's and Midwife's are not covered in our provincial healthcare plan, unfortunately. (Oddly enough, gender reassignment surgery is.. go figure!)

Also, Calgary has a horrible response time when it comes to Paramedics. Being underfunded, and understaffed is too blame, we're told.

I should clarify that I'm not going into a "hospital" per say... it's more of a birthing centre. I hope to have such an uneventful delivery (well, apart from the normal things, like pain :p), that with the next one, we can look into home-birth.

I hope you understand that I only wish to be in a medical faculity only for my piece of mind with this first one.

I plan on being on being such an old pro at having babies in the future, that soon it could just be me and my husband. An aquaintance of mine has recently given birth to her 6th child, delivered by her husband. That's beautiful.

Especially when you live in a city like ours that is over burdened with immigrants, over taxing the generous health care system of ours.
