Mountain Oysters are not just an American thing, they are enjoyed anywhere livestock is raised. Bulls, sheep, swine, even roosters.

I have eaten several varieties, while not great, they dont rank with the worst things I have had.

Kind of hard to pick an American dish as this country was founded so late most of the truly nasty stuff was already being eaten elsewhere.

Chitlins come to mind as a nasty dish, although not original to the US.

Canned spaghetti, ravioli or spaghetti-o's
Canned Deviled ham (mixed with mayo for sandwiches usually)
Fast food version of a hamburger (or anything else fast food)
possessed hot dogs or sausages (anyone who has had fresh made can attest to this)
Instant Mashed Potatoes

My mom used to coat those calf or cow (don't remember exactly) brains in batter and fry them. Lemon juice would be squeezed over the dish. I found them to be delicious. She would stew beef tripe and boil beef tongue. I enjoyed them all.
