Austria's Haider dies in accident

Austrian far-right politician Joerg Haider has been killed in a road accident, police reports say.

Haider died in Carinthia, his political stronghold, early on Saturday, police in Klagenfurt said.

They said he was driving alone when his car came off the road and he suffered severe head and chest injuries.

The 58-year-old was a former leader of the Austrian Freedom Party, and was known for his anti-immigration and anti-EU policies.

Take it for what it's worth but I think it would be prudent for each and every one of us to do a thorough walk around of our automobiles and trucks before we get in and go traveling in them. Look under neath and make sure that there are no obvious or large leaks coming from under the engine or near any of the tires. No oil or transmission fluid could leave you stranded and if there is a brake fluid leak no brakes is self explanatory.

Check for any obvious tampering and keep your gas cap locked at all times. If you don't have a locking gas cap buy one now, use it, and keep it locked.

Observe for any wiring that might be a miss or that might be out of place. Clearly you shouldn't have wiring coming out of a gas tank.

Check your tires and make sure there are no nails or screws in them and that there are no knife or razor slashes on the tire's sidewall which could result in a blowout. A cut or slash on a tire's sidewall cannot be repaired and a new tire must be purchased.

Just use your common sense. Take 2-3 minutes and check your car out before you take off in it if it's been sitting overnight or sitting in an airport parking lot while you were on a business trip.

If you sense something is out of place or not right don't ignore your intuition. More times than not my intuition has been right and on a couple of occasions I've suffered the consequences for not heading that still small voice of Providence.

Ok I'll be designated skeptic for the thread

All we have at the moment is a car wreck. Pretty common way to die. There's just nothing else to look at right now, so nothing much to be suspicious about.

I'll pay close attention if and when more comes out, but there just isn't much to go on at the present time. He could have been tired, drinking, anything.

I don't ignore this stuff, but it's hard to get too excited about it without more info.
