Default Bill White Junk Media Reports Only (Thread 2)

http://billwhitelegaldefense.blogspot.com/

As a result of his incaceration, Bill's wife and infant daughter have been left with no means of financial support. The National Socialist community should step up to the plate and lend a helping hand to the White family during this extremely trying period.

I know the economy is bad, and most of us are in poor shape economically, but we can all afford to take a $10 or $20 bill and donate it to a White Nationalist family in need.

Donations may be sent to:

ANSWP
P.O. Box 8601
Roanoke, Va. 24014

Important note: Well-concealed cash is preferred; money orders and checks must be made out to Cash or Meghan White and not to Bill White or the ANSWP, as Bill's family does not have access to the ANSWP bank account."

Here is a rather unsubstantial video that answers no questions (except to show the shit-eating grins of some Feds): http://www.wdbj7.com/Global/story.as...menu368_2_8_14

Peoria Journal Star mentioned that the juror was a gay jewish anti-racist.

http://www.pjstar.com/news/x10528101...att-Hale-trial

And there's an ad there opposing a constitutional convention if favor of more school money, with a negress begging for change. The ads rotate, I got lucky to see that one.

Creators planned consolidation in the Peoria area.

Bill White still in Roanoke jail, preliminary hearing set for Wednesday

White is commander of the Roanoke-based American National Socialist Workers Party.

White supremacist Bill White will stay in a Roanoke jail cell for now. A judge delayed making a decision Saturday about releasing him on bond. His preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday.

White is charged with obstruction of justice for allegedly threatening a juror from Chicago in a case several years ago. Meanwhile, a federal Grand Jury in Roanoke started its own local investigation at White just three days before the nationally prominent neo-Nazi was arrested on a warrant issued in Chicago.

The FBI picked him up late Friday, based on a 16-page sworn statement from Illinois. He's accused of trying to persuade people to injure the foreman of a jury that convicted white supremacist Matthew Hale. Hale sought to arrange the murder of a federal judge in Chicago.

In court over the weekend, White's attorney fought to get him out on bond. However, U.S. attorney Thomas Bondurant Jr. presented evidence from White's website, telling the judge he posed a threat to the community.

He quoted from White's website, which can no longer be accessed. The postings included developing plots to kill 15 to 20 people in the Roanoke area.

"We had two concerns. One, the postings on the Internet we felt would lead to people being hurt, by people acting on those postings. Two, him personally wanting to go and kill people that's obviously a very real concern," said Bondurant.

Federal authorities say there's evidence that White was plotting to kill a score of what White calls the city's "Negro nuisances and their annoying counterparts at the Roanoke Times." In a blog entry last May, White wrote he'd developed a very intricate plot for the murders "almost without realizing it...."

A year ago, according to evidence unsealed in court, White wrote of plans to kill the editorial board at the paper, along with certain unnamed city officials, as a means of solving the city's problems. The blog entry says it's not beyond his ability, then adds he's not "planning anything, yet."

"I really don't have any comments at this point," said White's Attorney Bill Cleaveland. "We just need to get some things sorted out so we can get the issue of bond resolved. We're going to work on that, hopefully resolve it in the next day or so."

White's preliminary hearing will be held Wednesday in Roanoke. That's when the government will put on evidence in support of the Chicago charges. The judge will have to decide whether to release White, pending trial in Illinois.

A lot remains unclear, including when, even if, the Roanoke Grand Jury will be able to continue its investigation as the case against White proceeds in Chicago.

Hate Groups Mostly Quiet in Election

By JIM RUTENBERG
October 20, 2008

Bill White, the leader of a neo-Nazi group, last month in Roanoke, Va. He said his group was planning to deliver leaflets condemning Senator Barack Obama, but he was arrested last week.

WASHINGTON — A tall, extra-hot mocha in his hand and a .380-caliber pistol on his hip, Bill White sat near the window of a Starbucks in Roanoke, Va., last month and discussed his political predicament as the leader of one of the nation’s more established neo-Nazi groups.

“Right now,” said Mr. White, the head of the American National Socialist Workers Party, “we’re facing the potential of a half-black candidate financed by Jewish money going up against a white candidate financed by Jewish money, who are both advocating the same policy. So you’ve got two terrible choices.”

On Friday, about three weeks after that interview, Mr. White was jailed on suspicion of making threats against a juror who was on a panel in 2004 that convicted a white supremacist of plotting to kill a federal judge.

So stands the state of organized racism in 2008, paralyzed and at a crossroads in what would presumably be a pressing moment of action — the possibility that Senator Barack Obama will become the first black president — but has so far not been.

There have been sporadic reports throughout the country of Obama signs vandalized with swastikas, windows smashed at local Obama campaign offices and racist pamphlets dropped on doorsteps. Overt and thinly veiled racist comments about Mr. Obama have been caught on camera at rallies, and a Republican women’s group in California — the Chaffey Community Republican Women, Federated — has made headlines for a flier that showed Mr. Obama’s face on a faux food stamp that also included watermelon and fried chicken.

But party officials and organizations that monitor hate groups, always concerned about the specter of violence, report far less activity from the more traditional sources of open racism late in the race than they had expected.

“What we really haven’t seen is white supremacists really rallying over an Obama presidency,” said Mark Potok, the director of intelligence at the Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks hate groups. “Hate groups are in a more or less stunned position right now; they haven’t been able to figure out how to proceed just yet.”

Some attributed the relative lack of activity so far from white supremacist groups and other sources of racial attacks to the same cultural shifts that led the Democrats to become the first major party to choose a black presidential nominee.

“It’s not like we’re finally reaching Martin Luther King’s promised land,” said Michael Gehrke, the research director for the Democratic National Committee, whose unit monitors such activity, “but as a political force, they’ve been marginalized.”

In one sign of shifting mores, James Knowles, a former Ku Klux Klan member who was convicted in a 1981 lynching, said in a Discovery Channel documentary by Ted Koppel that Mr. Obama was a potentially acceptable candidate. “People need to vote for him because of his ideas and the veracity that he displays in what he does, and not because he’s African-American,” Mr. Knowles said.

There have been only sporadic reports of racist mailings, though Democrats say they are on the lookout for more. And there has been scant evidence that Mr. Obama’s candidacy has helped hate-group recruitment, unlike the recent debates over immigration policy, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.

White supremacist leaders, while threatening some political action before Nov. 4, similarly attribute their relative lack of activity this year to demographic and societal changes they cannot stop. But they also point to a Republican candidate, Senator John McCain, whose liberal immigration views and staunch support for Israel are against everything they stand for.

On top of that, the leadership is plagued by scandal and infighting in the absence of a unifying group like the Ku Klux Klan, which is no longer pre-eminent even among open racists, or figures like the former K.K.K. leader David Duke, whose power waned after he was convicted on fraud charges early this decade. (Mr. Duke has, in fact, written positively about the prospect of Mr. Obama’s being elected, though arguing it would stir a white backlash and “result in a dramatic increase in our ranks.”)

“There’s a real problem,” Mr. White said in the interview last month, “in what’s called the ‘white movement.’ One, there’s a lot of people who are just mentally ill, and we deal with those a lot. No. 2, there are people who have serious sexual problems.”

Mr. White, 31, who says he has a following of at least 1,200 people, considers himself a reformer in the white movement. A landlord of low-income tenants of all races, he devotes as much of his energy to attacking rival leaders he hopes to purge from the supremacist leadership as he does attacking Jews and blacks.

His Web site recently featured a blog post reporting that a fellow white supremacist, Curtis Maynard, was “married to a mestizo and raising half-breed children.” (Mr. Maynard, in turn, has written that Mr. White is “a Jew and an agent of the A.D.L. and S.P.L.C.,” the initials of the Anti-Defamation League and the Southern Poverty Law Center.)

Mr. White’s Web site abruptly went offline this month. On Friday, The Roanoke Times reported that the Federal Bureau of Investigation had seized his computer equipment as part of the investigation that led to his arrest. Mr. White told the newspaper he had posted the address of a juror who served on the panel that convicted the white supremacist Matthew Hale of plotting to kill a federal judge in Chicago. But the newspaper quoted him as saying he had not called for any particular action against the juror. Arrested late Friday, he is being held without bail.

Another leader, Alex Carmichael of the League of American Patriots, has sued Mr. White for linking him in an article to what Mr. White called the “pedophile sex network” of Kevin Alfred Strom. Mr. Strom, the head of the now-defunct white supremacist group National Vanguard, was released from prison this fall after serving time for possessing child pornography.

Last month, Mr. Carmichael’s group became the first to deliver racist leaflets about Mr. Obama, distributing them to homes in New Jersey and Pennsylvania in a small effort that drew wide news coverage.

In the interview last month, Mr. White said his group was planning a similar but larger effort. With a donation of about $8,000 from a supporter in Michigan, he said he was planning to print and distribute to white working-class neighborhoods 20,000 copies of his party’s latest magazine, The Nationalist Socialist. The newest edition has on its cover a photograph of Mr. Obama with a rifle’s crosshairs focused on his head and a headline using a racial slur and seemingly calling for his assassination. Mr. White said the cover was satirical and pointed to a subheading that read, “Negro Deification and the ‘Obama Assassination’ Myth.”

As of last week, there were no reports that the magazine had been distributed, and it was unclear how Mr. White’s arrest would affect his plans.

White's Web site closed by FBI
Overthrow.com has been off-line since federal officials seized computer equipment.

By Laurence Hammack
981-3239

Federal agents have reportedly seized computer equipment from a Roanoke-based white supremacy group, at least temporarily shutting down a Web site used to spout racist rhetoric.

Overthrow.com, which is run by William White, the commander of the American National Socialist Workers Party, has been off-line since last weekend.

According to White, FBI agents armed with a search warrant removed computers and other equipment early Saturday morning from a Patterson Avenue building that houses his Internet operation.

The raid marks the latest chapter in a long-running investigation of White's online activities.

Although White and two other sources say a grand jury has been empaneled to hear testimony, any decision on whether to bring charges could be complicated by the fine line between free speech and criminal activity -- a line that legal experts say White is adept at straddling.

Earlier this week, White posted what appears to be a partial copy of the search warrant to a Yahoo message group. The warrant suggests that federal authorities are looking into an Overthrow posting that listed personal information about a juror in the case of a white supremacist convicted of plotting to kill a Chicago judge.

Other postings have included calls to lynch six black teenagers charged with assault in a case that prompted a civil rights demonstration last year in Jena, La.

More recently, the Web site carried images of presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama, his head in the cross hairs of a rifle sight fashioned into a swastika, along with the headline "Kill This N-----?"

It was not clear this week whether the federal investigation of White includes the Obama material, which appears on the cover of an upcoming magazine to be published by ANSWP.

Scot Montrey, a spokesman for the U.S. Justice Department's civil rights division in Washington, said this week that an investigation of White is ongoing. Federal authorities first confirmed the investigation in September 2007, after Overthrow carried the headline "Lynch the Jena 6," along with what it said were the teens' home addresses and telephone numbers.

Asked about the reported seizure of White's computer equipment, Montrey referred questions to the FBI.

Dee Rybiski, a spokeswoman in the agency's Richmond office, said she could not comment on any investigation.

As for the Obama magazine cover, White said he has been contacted by members of the U.S. Secret Service. Malcolm Wiley, a spokesman for the Secret Service, said the agency does not comment on open investigations, "particularly those involving threats."

White, who said he was out of town during the FBI raid and came back to find his computer equipment missing, posted a portion of the search warrant in a chat room for national socialists.

The document -- five pages of what appears to be a warrant at least 19 pages long -- authorizes federal agents to seize electronic files and other records "that may contain all evidence of the crime of threatening Hale Juror A."

According to White, that's a reference to a juror in the case of Matthew Hale, a white supremacist convicted by a Chicago jury in 2004 of soliciting the murder of a federal judge.

White said he posted the juror's home address on his Web site but made no threats and encouraged no violence against the juror.

"They don't have anything criminal on me," White said of the federal investigation. "People are constantly filing bogus complaints against me. The Department of Justice has been trying desperately to find something against me."

The search warrant also covers "documents, photographs, or other information that shows an intent to intimidate or injure persons whose personal information has been posted in the same manor [sic] as Hale Juror A."

White has a long history of posting home addresses, telephone numbers and other information about people whose views or activities run counter to his neo-Nazi beliefs.

The contact information is often paired with veiled threats and suggestions. In the Jena 6 case, for example, his posting included the teens' addresses "in case anyone wants to deliver justice."

White also has posted contact information for Miami Herald columnist Leonard Pitts, an attorney he tangled with in a housing discrimination case out of Virginia Beach, and Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center, an Alabama organization that monitors hate groups.

Potok said Thursday that he was glad to hear that federal authorities are investigating White's activities.

"Bill White has been pushing hard on the legal boundaries of the First Amendment for a long time, and this time he may have finally crossed the line," he said of the reported postings about the federal juror in Chicago.

In an interview earlier this week, White said FBI agents rushed to close down his Web site the night of Oct. 10 after he posted a story claiming that they were enlisting drug dealers to infiltrate his group and then commit crimes that would be pinned on him.

"We have a serious problem with the FBI," White said. "What's happened is the FBI has decided to entrap me."

White said Thursday that he has ordered new computer equipment to replace what the FBI took and hopes to have his Web site back up within the next few days.

For months, White has been making online comments about what he calls an ongoing investigation of himself by a grand jury in U.S. District Court in Roanoke, and of efforts by FBI agents to follow and interrogate him.

Brian McGinn, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Roanoke, declined to comment on White's assertion that he is the subject of a grand jury investigation.

However, two sources who asked not to be identified have confirmed that they have personal knowledge of the grand jury. Neither source wanted to speak publicly about an investigation being conducted behind closed doors.

Court records of such proceedings, which would include the search warrant that White posted online, are usually sealed.

Although ANSWP does not espouse violence, White said, federal authorities have decided to take him down because of his views on race.

"Why does your newspaper publish crazy things about me that you know are not true? You want to silence my point of view," he said. "Why does the FBI make accusations against me they know are not true? Because they want to silence my point of view."

Since he arrived in Roanoke in 2003 and began to buy homes in the West End neighborhood for rental properties, White has been the subject of several investigations.

Attorneys have sought sanctions against him for his online comments, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development looked into complaints of housing discrimination related to his home rental business.

So far, the efforts have either produced no charges or court victories for White.

White said he expects the current investigation to be no different.

"They just know they're going to lose on this," he said. "They know they're going to lose, and that's why they haven't filed any charges."

News researcher Belinda Harris contributed information to this report.

Sen. Obama to hold rally in Roanoke

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is coming to Roanoke on Friday.

Obama will hold a 12:30 p.m. rally at the Roanoke Civic Center coliseum, appearing with U.S. Sen. Jim Webb.

Doors will open at 10 a.m. The event is free and open to the public on a first-come, first served basis, but Obama's campaign is recommending that those who plan to attend RSVP at va.barackobama.com.

Because of limited parking at the civic center, the campaign is urging people to car pool or use public transportation if possible.

This will be Obama's seventh campaign appearance in Virginia since the primary season, and the first visit to Roanoke by either major-party presidential candidate.

Obama and Republican John McCain are in a neck and neck race for Virginia's 13 electoral votes.

McCain campaigned in Virginia Beach earlier this week and is scheduled to appear in Prince William County on Saturday. A Republican official said the time and venue for that event isn't set

McCain's campaign said earlier this week that the Republican may make a trip to Southwest Virginia in the closing weeks of the campaign, but no campaign stops in the region had been planned.

Roanoke neo-Nazi jailed on charge of threatening a juror

By Laurence Hammack
The Roanoke Times

William A. White

A white supremacist known for his inflammatory Internet postings about race-related issues — and his verbal attacks on the people involved in them — has been charged with threatening a federal juror.

William A. White, commander of the Roanoke-based American National Socialist Workers Party, was being held without bond today in the Roanoke jail.

White was arrested late Friday afternoon and charged with obstruction of justice, Assistant U.S. Attorney Tom Bondurant said today.

Bondurant said the charge involves the "threatened use of force" against the foreman of a Chicago jury in the case of Matthew Hale, who was convicted in 2004 of soliciting the murder of a U.S. District Court judge.

At the time, Hale was the leader of the World Church of the Creator, which adhered to some of the same neo-Nazi beliefs as White’s organization.

Bondurant declined to comment on the details of the alleged threat, except to say that White’s trial will be held in Chicago.

In an interview earlier this week, White said he recently posted information about a juror in the Hale case to his Web site, Overthrow.com. White said he included personal information about the juror, but made no threats in discussing what he said were his concerns about the fairness of Hale’s trial.

The Southern Poverty Law Center, an Alabama organization that monitors hate groups, said on its Web site that White did not directly propose violence against the juror in that case.

It was not clear, however, if the conduct described by both White and the SPLC is related to the federal charge against him.

According to the SPLC blog item, White posted the name, home address and several phone numbers of the so-called "Gay, Jewish, anti-racist" juror who helped convict Hale.

In 2005, Hale was sentenced to 40 years in prison for encouraging his head of security, who turned out to be a federal informant, to kill Judge Joan Humphrey Lefkow. The judge had previously ruled against Hale in a trademark infringement case involving the name of his organization.

In his September posting, White "told his readers that the [juror] played a leading role in inciting both the conviction and the harsh sentence that followed," the SPLC blog post states. "He also described the conviction as wrongful and said the prison term handed Hale was a ‘criminally long sentence.’ "

Mark Potok, director of the SPLC’s Intelligence Project, said Thursday that while White has often come close to the line between free speech and criminal activity, he may have finally crossed it by posting personal information about a juror.

Federal authorities are particularly sensitive about protecting jurors in cases such as Hale’s, Potok said.

One week ago, FBI agents seized computer equipment from White. Several days later, White posted what he said was a copy of the search warrant to a Yahoo message group.

The warrant authorized FBI agents to search a Patterson Avenue building that houses White’s online operation. According to the warrant, authorities were looking for computer files and other records "that may contain all evidence of the crime of threatening Hale Juror A."

The warrant also covers "documents, photographs or other information that shows an intent to intimidate or injure persons whose personal information has been posted in the same manor [sic] as Hale Juror A."

Since the FBI raid, Overthrow.com has been down.

In a posting to a Yahoo message group for white supremacists, made either late Thursday night or sometime during the day Friday, someone identifying himself as White said the FBI had just executed a second search warrant, this one on his home.

"They left remarking on how they did not have anything with which to chargesme [sic] and they needed to plan theyre [sic] next step," the post stated.

With White now in jail, the next step will be an initial appearance before a magistrate judge, which could happen as early as Sunday afternoon.

Neo-Nazi with link to riot in Toledo accused of threatening Chicago juror

ASSOCIATED PRESS

ROANOKE, Va. - A white supremacist in Virginia accused of allegedly threatening a federal juror will have his trial in Chicago.

William A. White, who led a neo-Nazi rally that sparked a riot in Toledo three years ago, was charged with obstruction of justice. He's a commander of the American National Socialist Workers Party.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Tom Bondurant says the charge involves alleged threats to a Chicago jury foreman in the 2004 case of Matthew Hale, who was convicted of soliciting the murder of a federal judge.

Mr. Bondurant has declined to comment on the case.

Randall Samborn, a spokesman for Chicago's U.S. Attorney's Office, was uncertain when Mr. White will be brought to Chicago. Mr. White has a court hearing in Virginia on Wednesday.

Hale was the leader of an organization which held similar neo-Nazi beliefs as Mr. White's organization.

Mr. White has said he posted information about a juror online, but said he made no threats.

On Oct. 15, 2005, Mr. White led a rally of the National Socialist Movement at a North Toledo park that escalated into a riot. He split from the NSM and formed the National Socialist Workers Party in July, 2006.

White supremacist accused of putting U.S. juror at risk

Virginia man allegedly posted on his Web site photo, name, address and phone numbers of foreman of Chicago federal jury

By David Heinzmann | Chicago Tribune reporter
October 21, 2008

A white supremacist leader who posted the identity of a federal juror on his Web site now faces charges that he solicited others to harm the man, according to a criminal complaint made public Monday in Chicago.

William White of Roanoke, Va., is accused of putting the juror at risk by posting his photo, name, home address and multiple working phone numbers.

The undisclosed target was foreman of the federal jury that in 2004 convicted white supremacist Matthew Hale of plotting the murder of U.S. District Judge Joan Lefkow after she ruled against him in a copyright infringement suit. Lefkow's husband and mother were killed in 2005 in an unrelated attack.

The criminal complaint charged that White, the self-appointed leader of the American National Socialist Workers' Party, "attempted to persuade [others] to . . . injure" the Hale jury foreman.

The complaint did not accuse White of explicitly directing people to harm the juror, but prosecutors believe the nature of the Web site met the standard for the criminal statute, said Randall Samborn, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office.

White's Web site also displayed content from his magazine, National Socialist, which showed a photo of Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama with the U.S. senator's head obscured by a swastika-shaped cross hairs. The headline read: "Kill this [racial epithet]?"

FBI spokesman Ross Rice said White is not charged with threatening the candidate.

Man charged with posting information about juror in Matt Hale trial

By ANDY KRAVETZ
of the Journal Star

PEORIA

A Roanoke, Va., man faces federal charges for allegedly posting information about a juror in the 2004 case in which Matt Hale was convicted of trying to solicit the murder of a judge.

William White appeared in U.S. District Court in Roanoke on Sunday and was ordered held pending a bond hearing Wednesday. He was facing charges out of Chicago's federal court and could be transferred there for prosecution.

A recently unsealed criminal complaint states White faces a single count that he "solicited or otherwise attempted to persuade another person to injure Hale Juror A on account of a verdict assented to by Hale Juror A."

The charge stems from a Sept. 11 Internet posting by White, who heads the American National Socialist Workers Party, where he posted personal information about the juror, whom he called "Gay, Jewish, anti-racist." The juror, White said, had a part in convicting Hale on the solicitation charge.

In a recent interview with the Roanoke Times, White admitted he had posted information on his Web site, Overthrow.com, but said he made no threats in discussing what he said were his concerns about the fairness of Hale's trial.

And in a blog post on the Southern Poverty Law Center's Web site, the civil rights group states, "White did not advocate violence against the juror. But he wrote that the juror 'played a key role in convicting Hale.' He has said that a federal grand jury is investigating him over the matter."

Hale, the former head of the World Church of the Creator, was convicted in 2004 of trying to solicit the murder of a federal judge in Chicago. He was sentenced to 40 years in prison. At trial, prosecutors argued Hale was angry because the judge had ordered his racist organization to stop using its name when it lost a trademark lawsuit on appeal.

Last month, leaflets by the American National Socialist Workers Party, which contained both Virginia and Peoria addresses, were distributed throughout several Peoria neighborhoods.

Andy Kravetz can be reached at 686-3283 or [email protected].

Bill White still in Roanoke jail, preliminary hearing set for Wednesday

White’s federal court hearing set for Wednesday

Roanoke white supremacist Bill White could ask a federal judge to set bail at his next court appearance.

White is due in U.S. District Court in Roanoke at 3:30 PM on Wednesday.

White is charged with one count of obstruction of justice after the FBI accused him of threatening a federal juror.

The juror served during white supremacist Matthew Hale’s federal trial in Illinois in 2004.

While there are no direct threats listed in the federal complaint against White, documents detail how White is accused of posting the juror’s name, address, and cell phone number on his website overthrow.com.

White is also accused of calling the juror to verify his information.

White Supremacist Charged With Threatening Juror

Bill White Of Roanoke, Va., To Be Tried In Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) ― A white supremacist in Virginia will be tried in Chicago on charges of threatening a federal juror.

William A. White, a commander of the self-described neo-Nazi group the American National Socialist Workers Party, is charged with obstruction of justice.

The charge involves threats to a Chicago jury foreman in the 2004 case of Matthew Hale, who was convicted of soliciting the murder of a federal judge.

A federal criminal complaint said the juror, identified only as Hale Juror A, received a cell phone call this past Sept. 11, from a man who asked the juror's name, whether the juror lived at a specific address, and whether the juror had served on the panel for the Matthew Hale trial. Afterward, the caller said, "that's all I need to know" and hung up, the complaint said.

Hale Juror A received about 50 cell phone text messages afterward, some of which were garbled, but others of which had messages in support of white supremacy, the complaint said.

Upon receiving the complaint, authorities entered Hale Juror A's name into Google, and found a posting on a Web site, which purported to include the juror's name, date of birth, and home address, and claimed the juror "played a key role in convicting Hale," the complaint said. The entry also included the juror's purported cell and office phone numbers, the name of a partner and a cat, and a color photograph, the complaint said.

The information was formerly correct, but the Hale Juror A had moved, the complaint said.

The Web site included a "magazine" with several articles in support of white supremacy, and some of them referenced a name and contact information for "Bill White" of Roanoke, Va. After tracing further information about the Web site, FBI agents discovered that White was its registrant, the complaint said.

On Oct. 10, a search warrant was issued for White's computer equipment, and authorities concluded that White had been the one who contacted Hale Juror A and posted a threat against the juror on the Web site.

Randall Samborn, a spokesman for Chicago's U.S. Attorney's Office, was uncertain when White would be brought to Chicago. White has a court hearing in Virginia on Wednesday.

Hale was the leader of an organization which held similar neo-Nazi beliefs as White's organization.

White has said he posted information about a juror online, but said he made no threats.

Neo-Nazi charged with posting data on Hale juror
U.S. COURT | Urged harm against panelist in '04 white supremacy trial: feds

October 19, 2008

BY NATASHA KORECKI Federal Courts Reporter [email protected]

A neo-Nazi who long operated a hate Web site has been arrested for posting online the name and home address of a Chicago juror who served in the trial of white supremacist Matthew Hale.

William A. White was arrested Friday in Roanoke, Va., and is expected to appear in federal court in Virginia as early as today on civil rights charges. He will then be transferred to Chicago, sources told the Sun-Times.

White's Web site -- www.over throw.com, which authorities have shut down -- recently posted the headline "Kill This N-----?" next to a photo of Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.

In another post, the site called for the lynching of six black teenagers charged with assault in a civil rights case in Jena, La.

White, the self-proclaimed leader of the American National Socialist Workers Party, described by authorities as a hate group, is charged under a new law that was an outgrowth from the killings of two family members of a Chicago judge.

White allegedly posted the phone number and address of a juror he called a "gay, Jewish anti-racist" who voted to convict Hale in 2004. White is alleged to have advocated harm against the juror, authorities said.

On Oct. 10, FBI agents raided White's offices, seizing computers and other items related to White's Web site.

Hale is now serving a 40-year sentence in a maximum-security prison. His case centered on charges that he solicited a hit on U.S. District Judge Joan Lefkow after the Chicago judge ruled against him in a civil case.

The following spring, Lefkow's husband and mother were killed by a disgruntled litigant not tied to a hate group but who was able to track down her home address. After the killings, the judge went before Congress and pleaded for more safeguards for judges -- including restricting the publication of personal information about them online.

Judge orders supremacist to stay in jail

In denying bond, the federal magistrate judge cited William A. White’s stated plot to murder 15 to 20 people.

Neo-Nazi activist William A. White remains in the Roanoke City Jail, a prisoner of his own words.

On Sunday, U.S. magistrate Judge Michael Urbanski ordered White held without bond, at least for now, on a charge of encouraging violence against the foreman of a Chicago jury that convicted a fellow white supremacist in 2004. Urbanski said he was most concerned about an unrelated passage White posted to his Web site, overthrow.com.

White wrote in May that he had developed an intricate plot to murder 15 or 20 people, including some of Roanoke’s “Negro nuisances and their annoying counterparts at The Roanoke Times.”

As the head of a Roanoke-based white supremacy group, White frequently posts incendiary commentaries about race-related issues, both local and national. His online diatribes often include personal attacks against people in the news — and sometimes at the newspaper for its coverage of the resulting fallout.

Legal experts have said that in most of the posts, White seems to choose his words carefully, stopping just short of the line between free speech and criminal activity.

While not directly advocating the murder of a federal judge’s family, for example, White once wrote that he understood why someone who shared his neo-Nazi beliefs would feel compelled to commit such a crime.

But the May posting to overthrow.com was different, Urbanski said.

“That troubles me the most,” the judge said of White’s stated plan to murder 15 or 20 people. “He’s talking about doing something himself.”

White was depressed at the time of that post as he dealt with the illness of his wife and newborn daughter, defense attorney William Cleaveland told the judge.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Tom Bondurant countered that White’s comments represented “a danger to the community, no matter how you look at it.”

At the end of an unusual Sunday afternoon hearing in U.S. District Court in Roanoke, Urbanski decided to keep White locked up until Wednesday, when he will consider a report on White’s background and prior criminal history before making a final decision on bond.

Following a preliminary hearing here, White’s case will be transferred to federal court in Chicago for trial.

Seldom at a loss for words, White was uncharacteristically quiet and subdued Sunday as federal agents led him in handcuffs to his seat at the defense table. Instead of the usual dark suit he wears for court appearances, White was dressed in a green-and-white striped jail outfit.

White was arrested Friday on a charge of encouraging violence against the foreman of a Chicago jury that convicted Matthew Hale, a fellow white supremacist. Hale was convicted in 2004 of soliciting the murder of a federal judge and sentenced to 40 years in prison.

The criminal complaint, unsealed at the beginning of Sunday’s hearing, states that on Sept. 11, White “solicited or otherwise attempted to persuade” another person to threaten or injure someone identified only as “Hale Juror A.”

According to the complaint, White posted the juror’s name, home address and telephone numbers to his Web site, along with a commentary about how Hale was unfairly convicted.

The 24-page complaint also lists other material posted to overthrow.com, including an image of presidential candidate Barack Obama, his head encircled by a rifle sight with cross-hairs that extend to form a swastika.

Next to the image was the headline: “Kill This N—–?”

White is not charged with a specific crime related to Obama. But the material is just one example of many cited by the complaint to show a common practice: White making veiled threats or posting personal information about his targets online.

In addition to White’s talk of a murder spree in Roanoke, Urbanski said he was also concerned about the following passage in the complaint:

“As long was we live in a society in which laws are not enforced against Jews, Marxists and other privileged members of the bourgeoisie,” White wrote on overthrow.com, “I will take advantage of that and use the lawless chaos they’ve created to push my view, which is that all Jews and Marxists … should be shot, rather than debated — along with their fellow travelers and chosen pets in the Negro ‘rights’ movement.”
