jewsign Kike Sarkozy to meddle in Irish politics

French president Nicolas Sarkozy plans to pile pressure on Ireland over its rejection of the Lisbon Treaty in an upcoming Paris summit.

France assumed the presidency of the EU for six months July 2, and Sarkozy is to travel to Dublin on July 21 to pressure the Taoiseach into holding another referendum over the Lisbon Treaty.

The French strategy appears to be aimed at isolating Ireland, the only country so far to have rejected the treaty aimed at re-organizing the European Union by calling for an EU president and foreign minister and more decisions by majority votes.

Sarkozy would like to find a way round the Irish vote by which the Lisbon Treaty be adopted anyway, but is hindered by a fundamental EU principle that states any changes made to EU basic procedures must be unanimously approved.

Speaking in Paris last week, Sarkozy made it clear Ireland's 'No' vote would not force a reworking of the document, and that the Irish would be expected to hold another referendum or show agreement through a parliamentary vote.

Eighteen of the 27 European Union member states have ratified the Lisbon Treaty, Cyprus being the latest. However Poland, another Euro-skeptic country, has said it will not ratify the treaty unless Ireland approves it in a new referendum.

The Czech Republic has also shown deep skepticism over a possible ratification, with President Vaclav Klaus criticizing France for its efforts to put the treaty back on track and ignore Irish public opinion.
