The anti-Russian agenda promoted in the Australian media

7 October 2019 - 16:26

On September 16, 2019, the Australian newspaper Sidney Morning Herald published an article by Chris Zappone under the title “Russian propaganda 'very likely' stoking 5G health fears in Australia: expert claims.” In this article, the digital foreign editor quotes another expert as saying that Russia’s broadcaster RT (formerly known as Russia Today) and other alternative media websites are likely behind the uptick in 5G phobia in Australia.

Indicatively, the newspaper did not mention a single fact to support its allegations. The notorious “highly likely” sounds like a refrain in Sidney’s fake. It remains the only argument of Western propaganda.

We can only describe it as a deliberate attempt to manipulate public opinion with a view to intimidating Australians with the alleged “Russian threat.”

Characteristically, in criticising their Russian colleagues (RT), the Australian newspaper quotes the opinion of the East StratCom Task Force published on the EUvsDisinfo website launched at Latvia’s initiative. This website has been repeatedly exposed of disinformation and dissemination of fakes on the order of anti-Russian circles in a number of EU countries. Quoting a politically motivated source without publishing the opponent’s counter arguments is a gross violation of the fundamental principles of journalism.

We consider the assertions made in this article to be groundless and slanderous. We regret that a respectable Australian newspaper has become an instrument for fanning Russophobic attitudes in society.
