OK suppose the child mortality rate was 17 out of 20, or 7 of 10 .
That would mean a 50% population increase , every generation .( which certainly didn't happen .)

Still the child mortality rate was incredible, not the ridiculous 1 out of 7 that Sándor Petőfi was saying . He has no grasp on how bad life was in past times .
The shortness or brutality of life . Saying there hasn't been appreciable improvement in quality of life is so absurb it caused me to counter with a slight offset .
