Teen fatally shot after CPS basketball game at CSU

January 17, 2013 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- A 17-year-old boy was shot to death in a parking lot at Chicago State University Wednesday night, according to Chicago police.

Tyrone Lawson, 17, of the 11600 block of S. Peoria St., died of multiple gunshot wounds at Chicago State University and was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 9:59 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The shooting happened near 95th and King Drive around 9:20 p.m., officials said.

The shooting happened after a basketball game between high school powerhouses Simeon and Morgan Park.

The university issued a statement saying it was "deeply saddened by the tragic shooting death." A university official said that no university students were injured in the shooting.

Chicago Public Schools routinely uses CSU facilities in an effort to provide a "neutral setting" for student athletic events, the statement said, adding that Wednesday's shooting was the first time anything like that has happened on the university's campus.

"Arrests have been made and University officials are awaiting the outcome of a full investigation to learn details about the shooting incident," the statement said.

[Note that this story is not spun as a 'school shooting,' unlike the equally happenstance [non]'school shooting' that happened in Kentucky and is lied about in a link on the same page as this story. Even the most deranged reality deniers wouldn't fall for that spin about a typical Chicago Hutu-Tutsi re-enactment.]

Preckwinkle wants county gun reporting law

Says a report of any lost, stolen firearms will help keep them away from 'ne'er-do-wells'

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle on Wednesday calls for a new county gun control measure. (Chris Walker, Chicago Tribune / January 16, 2013)

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle wants a new law requiring people to report if their firearms are lost, stolen or sold to help the fight against gun violence, but there are questions about how effective such statutes are in tracking weapons used in crimes.

On Wednesday, Preckwinkle introduced an ordinance to the County Board that would allow for a fine of at least $1,000 for anyone who doesn't report to the county sheriff within 48 hours that their gun is no longer in their possession for any reason. The proposal is designed to make it tougher for so-called straw purchasers to resell guns to "gangbangers and ne'er-do-wells," she said.

"We want to be sure those who purchase guns behave responsibly, and are not part of the difficult problems we face on the streets," Preckwinkle said.

Chicago already has such a requirement on the books, with penalties of up to $5,000 and 90 days behind bars for failure to report a gun that is lost, stolen or transferred. Preckwinkle's ordinance would apply only to incidents outside Chicago.

Even with Chicago's ordinance, there were 506 homicides in the city in 2012, a 16 percent increase over 2011, and the great majority were committed with handguns.
"I'm not sure I would say it's not doing any good at the city level," Preckwinkle said when asked why the county ordinance would be more effective than the municipal statute. "I can't speak to what's happened at the city. My view is we should take every measure that we possibly can to diminish the violence in our streets, and this is one we think is appropriate, and will have some impact."

acknowledged guns recovered from criminals frequently have been disfigured to obscure the serial numbers, making it "very difficult" to track the weapons back to their original buyers.

But Dart, who appeared with Preckwinkle at a news conference, said it's nonetheless important for the county to take steps like the reporting requirements.

"You can't just constantly sit back and say 'Oh well, the (National Rifle Association) is going to beat us up, the NRA is going to make this difficult, so you know what, let's all crawl under our desks and do nothing,'" Dart said.

Preckwinkle hopes the County Board will approve the gun measure next month.

[Egads, Chicago. If you're White, you need to get the fuck out yesterday.

Look at your situation: You've got a kike international genocidalist (redundant) for a mayor. Your county board president is a self-hating, white-hating monster. Your county sheriff is a Type B personality milquetoast. None of them give a damn about what actually works and freely admit it, as quoted above. Emanuel just wants you dead. Prickwrinkle (*shiver*) wants your shit, which amounts to wanting you dead. Dart is a yipping pussy--THE ONLY KIND OF WHITE 'MAN' ACCEPTABLE IN MUDWORLD.

These divershitties use your own predators (the niggers, spics and other muds) as excuses to disarm you, the easier to pick you off. You need to quit acting like some hayseed fool from downstate and wake the fuck up. You're only kidding yourself. Your 'equals' aren't joking.]
