I would agree because most 1911's are generally not light. The 45 acp is a slow moving round. Heavy but slow. Therefor not bad on recoil. On the other hand the 9mm is a some what zippy round.
I have heard of newbies getting a 45 because
1. They have big hands.
2. It has moderate recoil.

I have lost all faith in the 9mm after Giffords.
