Default Norway murderer Breivik found criminally insane, may avoid prison

OSLO — Psychiatrists tasked with determining the mental state of Anders Behring Breivik when he carried out twin attacks in Norway have found him criminally insane, the VG daily reported Tuesday on its website.

If confirmed, this would mean that the right-wing extremist who killed 77 people four months ago cannot be sentenced to prison but must undergo psychiatric care in a closed mental institution.

“The court-appointed psychiatrists have concluded that Anders Behring Breivik was sick when he killed 77 people,” VG said, without revealing its sources.

Typical communist behavior ...

Communist use of psychiatric hospitals as political repression, also called psycho-camps (in Chinese ankang, in Russian psyhushka), were psychiatric hospitals and insane asylums misused for "correcting" i.e. re-programming the minds of political dissidents (almost academic intellectuals), under the various communist tyrannies, particularly the Soviet Union.

In the Soviet Union, systematic political abuse of psychiatry took place.[1]:406[2][3][4]:19[5]:47[6]:293[7][8]:66[9]:490[10]:52 Soviet psychiatric hospitals were used by the authorities as prisons in order to isolate hundreds or thousands of political prisoners from the rest of society, discredit their ideas, and break them physically and mentally.[11]

This method was also employed against religious prisoners and most especially against well-educated former atheists who adopted a religion. In such cases their religious faith was determined to be a form of mental illness that needed to be cured.[12]

Formerly highly classified extant documents from “Special file” of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union published after the dissolution of the Soviet Union demonstrate that the authorities of the country quite consciously used psychiatry as a tool to suppress dissent.[13]

Following the fall of the Soviet Union, it was often reported that some opposition activists and journalists were detained in Russian psychiatric institutions in order to intimidate and isolate them from society.[14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22] In modern Russia, human rights activists also face the threat of psychiatric diagnosis as a means of political repression.
