January 31, 2017

BIRMINGHAM – A Jefferson County Circuit Court judge has denied youthful offender status for a 19-year-old man Jamarlon Odasbua Edwards who is facing a capital murder charge and who police believe was involved in a 2015 armed robbery in Alabaster.

During the Alabaster carjacking, victim Tyler Parsons said two males pulled up in a red 2005 Dodge Charger and began asking him about his car. Parsons said one of the males approached his car and began asking questions.

When he showed one of the men his keys, the suspect pulled a gun and stole Parsons’ vehicle, he said. According to the APD incident report, the suspects stole Parsons’ $30,000 vehicle, a $600 Glock pistol in the center console and a $700 iPhone. Parsons’ car was totaled in a police pursuit in Ensley the following day.....

Default Florida Supreme Court tosses Jacksonville serial killer's death sentence

February 01, 2017

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The death penalty for Paul Durousseau, 46, has been thrown out by the Florida Supreme Court.

He was charged with murder in the deaths of five young women killed in Jacksonville between December 2002 and February 2003, but was only prosecuted in the Mack case. Two of the women were pregnant.

German authorities suspect Durousseau may have killed several local women when he was stationed there with the Army during the early 1990s.
Georgia law enforcement suspected Durousseau killed a woman near Fort Benning in 1997 before he was dishonorably discharged.

Default Philadelphia group helps investigate Tinley Park cold case

Feb 1, 2017

TINLEY PARK, Ill. — Nine years after the fatal shooting of five women in a southwest suburb of Chicago, police are getting help from a Philadelphia-based group that aids law enforcement working to solve cold-case homicides.

Last October, two Tinley Park detectives presented evidence in the February 2008 incident to members of the Vidocq Society, a nonprofit comprised of criminal and forensic investigators.

Police have investigated more than 7,000 tips in the case, and a reward of $100,000 has yet to produce a lead that will bring resolution to the slayings, which occurred at a Lane Bryant clothing store

Default Long Prairie man receives more than a dozen years for manslaughter

Feb 2, 2017

LONG PRAIRIE, Minn. — A Long Prairie man, Craig Lamont Williams, 49,who was convicted of first degree manslaughter for fatally striking his ex-wife with a shoe hammer was sentenced to 12½ years in prison.

On Dec. 6, 2016, a Todd County jury found Williams guilty of committing manslaughter — intentionally causing the death of Nancy Elaine Williams in the heat of passion.

The incident began on Aug. 22, 2013 when Williams called 911 requesting an ambulance for a "gunshot wound" at a home about six miles south of Long Prairie. During the call, Williams said he had shot Nancy Williams at their home.

When deputies arrived, they found Nancy, 58, dead. An autopsy showed that she died from multiple blows from a shoe hammer, not from gunshots.

Default Iowa City murder trial moves forward after Supreme Court denial

Feb. 3, 2017

A new trial for an Iowa City man accused in a 2009 murder is moving forward after the United States Supreme Court decided last month not to hear the case.

The trial for Justin Marshall, 25, will begin March 13, Sixth Judicial District Judge Sean McPartland said at a hearing held via phone conference at the Johnson County Courthouse on Friday.

Marshall, 25, is accused in the 2009 murder of Iowa City landlord John Versypt, 64, who was gunned down in a stairway at the Broadway Condominiums (now called Orchard Place) on Broadway Street, in southeast Iowa City. Police and prosecutors say the case is one of a robbery gone wrong.....

Default Second suspect in '15 Little Rock killing handed 40 years

https://twitter.com/roostergirl96

Feb. 3, 2017

Two of the three people accused of participating in the fatal robbery of a Little Rock security guard in his home have now been sent to prison on murder and robbery charges.

The final defendant -- the man his co-defendants say is the killer, 28-year-old Calvin Thornton Jr. of Little Rock -- is to stand trial before Pulaski County Circuit Judge Barry Sims at the end of the month. Prosecutors are seeking a life sentence for Thornton on capital murder and aggravated robbery charges.

Police say Thornton has implicated himself in the July 2015 slaying of 68-year-old Fred William Pohnka Jr. during a robbery at Pohnka's South Jackson Street home.

Pohnka, a father of three, was found dead in the kitchen of his ransacked home by his supervisors, John Platt and Wayne Taylor.

On Monday, 29-year-old Alexandria Levette Martin of Little Rock, who was Thornton's girlfriend, pleaded guilty to reduced charges of second-degree murder and robbery in exchange for a 40-year prison term. The mother of two has no prior felony convictions and was the first arrested after Pohnka's death.

Martin and co-defendant Malcolm Jamal Cooksey, 25, told authorities that Thornton beat Pohnka to death with a gun during the robbery.

He deserves the death penalty by the cheapest method possible. This subhuman filth isn't worth the cost of imprisonment.

Default Philly Police Still Trying To Solve Cold Case Of Who Killed Officer Frederick Cione 47 Years Ago

February 3, 2017

PHILADELPHIA — Who murdered Officer Frederick Cione? It’s a question the Philadelphia Police Department has never been able to answer.

The rookie officer was shot and killed 47 years ago this week.

CBS 3’s Greg Argos took a close look into the killing, which began with a routine police stop on a cold January 30, 1970 morning. Cione was just 25 at the time.

“He’s in his patrol car and what we believe is he gets out to stop three African-American males,” said Philadelphia Police Capt. James Clark.

Cione approached the three men near 17th and West Oxford shortly after 1 a.m.

It would turn out to be the rookie cop’s last assignment as he was ambushed and shot multiple times.....

February 6, 2017

A Jacksonville man died Monday after he surprised two burglars when he returned home and one of them shot him dead in a neighborhood near First Coast High on the city’s Northside, authorities said.

“It appears that he had just gotten home from work, was coming inside and was met as he was entering the house by the two individuals,” Sgt. Jay Farhat said.

Farhat said there were signs of forced entry but no evidence of a struggle at the home of the victim, who was later identified by police as 50-year-old Kyle Simpson.

Farhat said officers are looking for two black males in dark clothing who could be in their teens or 20s and were seen leaving the neighborhood in a black 2010 Ford Escape SUV.......
