Default Zionist influence and meddling in Yugoslavia, Serbia, Respublika Srpska

thread for evidence zionists influenced and manipulated affairs, wars, rulers in balkan, from long ago

Israel hiding involvement in Bosnia war.

Guest Writer: Revealing Israel’s arms exports to perpetrators of genocide is a moral obligation

Quote:
In November 2016 Israel’s Supreme Court rejected a petition to reveal details of Israeli defence exports to the former Yugoslavia during the genocide in Bosnia in the 1990s. The court ruled that exposing Israeli involvement in genocide would damage the country’s foreign relations to such an extent that it would outweigh the public interest in knowing that information, and the possible prosecution of those involved.

We the petitioners, Attorney Eitay Mack and I presented the court with concrete evidence of Israeli defence exports to Serbian forces at the time, including training as well as ammunition and rifles. Among other things, they presented the personal journal of General Ratko Mladić, currently on trial at the International Court of Justice for committing war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide. Mladić’s journal explicitly mentions Serbia’s ample arms ties with Israel at the time
Quote:
We have gathered numerous testimonies about the Israeli arms supply to Serbia, which were presented in the petition. Evidence was provide of such exports taking place long after the UN Security Council embargo went into effect in September 1991. The testimonies have been crossed-checked and are brought here as they were presented in the petition, with necessary abbreviations.

In 1992 a former senior official of the Serb Ministry of Defence published a book, “The Serbian Army”, in which she wrote about the arms deal between Israel and Serbia, signed about a month after the embargo: “One of the largest deals was made in October 1991. For obvious reasons, the deal with the Jews [Israelis] was not made public at the time.”
Quote:
In 1995 it was reported that Israeli arms dealers, in collaboration with the French, closed a deal to supply Serbia with LAW missiles. According to reports from 1992, a delegation of the Israeli Ministry of Defence came to Belgrade and signed an agreement to supply shells.

The same General Mladić who is now being prosecuted for war crimes and genocide, wrote in his journal that “from Israel – they proposed joint struggle against Islamist extremists. They offered to train our men in Greece and a free supply of sniper rifles.” A report prepared at the request of the Dutch government on the investigation of the Srebrenica events contains the following:
Quote:
Belgrade considered Israel, Russia and Greece its best friends. In autumn 1991 Serbia closed a secret arms deal with Israel.

In 1995 it was reported that Israeli arms dealers supplied weapons to VRS – the army of Republika Srpska, the Bosnian Serb Army. This supply must have been made with the knowledge of the Israeli government.

The Serbian letter marked the first time any government had referred to the yet-to-be-born Jewish state as “Israel,” presaging the name that would be adopted by the nascent republic three decades later.

More significantly, it broke the international ice, paving the way two months later for France and Italy to back the Balfour Declaration, followed shortly thereafter by Greece, Holland and others.

My brother, I feel sad to admit you're not right here. Jews always penetrated into the Serbian army and gained our trust and loyalty, our naive politicians really treated them like brothers. Yes, Israel granted us weapons and ammunition, and in answer we were very loyal to their atrocities in Palestine. We thought they help us against croat nazis and muslim turks but we lost our beloved Serbia.

Now we must grow up and admit the mistakes of the past. Vitaliy SND thank you brother, you started very important thread for every patriot of Serbia.

There was no safe place in Sarajevo, ruled a judge at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague. According to General Mladics diary, Israel had a direct relationship with the Serbian forces at the time they were committing war crimes and crimes against humanity. The diary was published as part of the trial there of Dusan Kovacevic, the Republika Srpska defense minister during the war. Mladic wrote that Israel had contacted Kovacevic four months before the genocide in Srebrenica.

They offered me training for our people at their expense, special weaponry for 500 men, sniper rifles for free, noted Mladic in his diary. This is supposed to be in order to fight the Muslim mujahadin forces, which the Mossad claimed had concentrated in Bosnia. Kovacevic himself confirmed this when he was questioned at the tribunal, in July of 2010. Yes, he told the judge. They were Israeli Mossad people.

You know many people here in Serbia still think he was anti-Zionist and anti-Vatikan hero.
Unfortunately Mladic is just a son of a Zionist (((srbin))), like many other nationalists who fought side by side with Jews:

Increased anti-Semitic restrictions in Bulgaria and the recent warning by the government that all the Jews in the country would be concentrated in two ghettos have resulted in 2,000 Bulgarian Jews fleeing the country to Serbia, where they have joined the Chetnik guerrillas of Gen. Draja Mihailovitch, it was reliably reported here today.

At present, thousands of Yugoslavian Jews are fighting with the Chetniks and several of the commanders of Mihailovitch’s detachments are Jewish. It has been reported that Jewish newspapers are published by these groups.

Our Serbian hero Gavrilo Princip was a Zionist too, but we still love him.
Members of his party that fought for the interests of Serb nation were Zionists as well.

Quote:
According to the historical archives, during the hearing of Princip on 12 October 1914, when asked by the judge what kind of idea stood behind the assassination, the young terrorist answered plainly: "I believe in the unification of all south Slavs." Although he was surely used by the Serbian ultra-nationalist organisation Black Hand, Gavrilo and his comrades were not nationalists. This can also be proved by the books they had read: the evening before the assassination, Gavrilo was reading Peter Kropotkin's "Memoirs of a Revolutionist", while on the same evening another member of their revolutionary organisation Young Bosnia (Mlada Bosna), Danilo Ilić – only three years older than Princip and already a translator of Kierkegaard, Ibsen and Edgar Allan Poe – was translating Oscar Wilde. Another member of Young Bosnia and its main ideologist, Vladimir Gaćinović, was a friend of Victor Serge, Julius Martov and Leon Trotsky.

https://www.theguardian.com/commenti...er-revisionism
Trotsky adored 'em:

Quote:
A direct impetus to the immeasurable events of the present war was given by a few Serb youths, almost boys, who killed the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne in July 1914 in Sarajevo. National romantic-revolutionaries, they, least of all, expected the global consequences of what unfolded from their terrorist act. I later met a member of this revolutionary organisation in Paris, in the first months of the war. He belonged to the group that organised the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, but he went abroad before the murder and, in the first days of the war, joined as a volunteer in the French navy as a ‘translator’. At that time, the allies organised a landing on the Adriatic coast of Austro-Hungary in Dalmatia(1), having the intention to support an uprising in the South-Slav provinces of the Habsburg monarchy.

https://www.marxists.org/archive/tro...ll-nations.htm
and they loved Trotsky. Actually one of Serbian fighters for independence had a chance to travel to install the communism in Russia along with other Jews:

Quote:
In 1911, almost at its inception, Gacinovic joined Apis's Black Hand secret society in Belgrade.
The same year, he went to Switzerland, where he would reside for several years and would be in 38 International contact with Russian revolutionaries. However, he came back for a period, in the winter of 1912, to fight as a Montenegrin volunteer in the first Balkan War, then returned to Lausanne to take up his sociological studies. One of his closest associ*ates was Mark Andreyevich Natanson-Bobrov, a well-known Russian terrorist since the 1870s, a cohort of the Okhrana (Russian secret police) assassin Azev, and almost certainly an Okhrana agent himself. Natanson introduced Gacinovic to the cream of the Rus*sian revolutionaries, including Lunacharsky and Martov.
A contemporary described Gacinovic, leader of the Young Bos*nians, as a "left-wing Socialist Revolutionary, if not actually a member, since he was not a Russian, then a co-opted mem*ber. With such a position he had contact with many Russians, exchanging letters, frequenting their meetings and lectures, even contributing to the Russian Socialist press."
(From Vla*dimir Dedijer, The Road to Sarajevo.) One of the people who had the most profoun
d impact on Gacinovic was Leon Trotsky, a friend whom he had known from Serbia in 1913.
After the Sarajevo events, in the fall of 1914, Gacinovic regularly visited Trotsky at his Hotel Odes*sa on the rue d'Odessa in Paris, accompanied by his friend Sergei Khibalchich, the son of Nikolai Khibalchich of the Russian terrorist group Narodnaya Volya (People's Will), who was executed for his part in the assassination of Czar Alexander II in 1881.
Later, when Natanson returned to Russia on Lenin's sealed train, he invited his friend Gacinov*ic to come along. Gacinovic declined, fearing that the Ger*mans would arrest him for his part in the Sarajevo conspiracy.

Wow, I see what they mean by "Balkanization" just by reading this thread.

The KWA is going down that road, too. Thanks a lot, jews.

Bosna serbs, Respublika Srpska, very infiltrated with zionism . Israel's friend in Europe, Mladic and Israel arms, killings and genocide used to make look nationalism bad. Coinciednce?
Quote:
Fundamentally Freund: Israel’s best friend in Europe

And while most people are perhaps not familiar with Republika Srpska (which the media refers to as the Bosnian Serb Republic), it is time for world Jewry to show greater appreciation for these largely unsung friends of ours.
By Michael Freund
May 3, 2014

Back in November 2011, when the Palestinian Authority sought UN membership as a state, the deciding vote on the Security Council belonged to Bosnia. The Croatian and Muslim members of Bosnia’s presidency both supported the Palestinian position, which was hardly surprising given the historic enmity which the two communities had shown to Jews in the past.

Thus, the fate of Bosnia’s vote, and the Palestinian proposal itself, boiled down to the position that would be taken on the matter by Republika Srpska.

Thankfully, the Serbs adamantly refused to back the Palestinian initiative, thereby preventing Bosnia’s presidium from reaching a consensus on the issue. Consequently, Bosnia’s UN representative was forced to withhold support for the Palestinian request, which failed to pass as a result.
Quote:
And yet, it is precisely thanks to this bewildering bedlam, and Republika Srpska’s principled stand, that Israel won one of its most crucial diplomatic victories in recent years.
Quote:
And well he should be. At a time when there is so much hypocrisy and hatred, so much bile and bluster being hurled against the Jewish state, it is refreshing to see that there are still people such as our friends in Republika Srpska who will stand by us. This welcome stance is a reflection of the bonds that have existed between Jews and Serbs, who lived side-by-side in harmony for nearly a thousand years.

In the dark days of the Holocaust, Jews and Serbs died together as well, both of them victimized en masse at the Jasenovac concentration camp by the Nazi-allied Croatian fascists known as the Ustashe.

You got it in the right way. Bosnia's Respublika Srpska is the most pro-Zionist part of Greater Serbia and serbs from there used to be utterly philo-Semitic, they're still thankful for Jews helped them in Bosnia war against muslims. Too bad they all are doomed with such naive beliefs.

Serbian - Jewish Friendship

This brief article aims to remind people of the friendship that has lasted through the centuries, the friendship between Serbs and Jews.

Perhaps you didn't know, but Serbia is one of the few countries in Europe where Jews were not persecuted by the natives (Serbs) throughout the countries history, only by invaders, who also persecuted the Serbs too.

Another country that has never persecuted Jews is Georgia, Jews were only persecuted and suffered in Georgia under the Tsarist government in the second half of the 19th century and the constant military conflicts and invasions by Timur, Ottoman Empire, and Muslim Persia.

Ottomans, Germans, Albanians, Croats and other Nazi or Muslim scum committed many atrocities against Serbs and Jews.

Throughout history, Jews have fought alongside Serbs against many enemies, including Muslims and more recently during the second world war, Nazis.

Many have given testimony to the Serbian - Jewish heroism demonstrated throughout Serbian history, especially during the Second World War.

Heroic Jews also fought alongside Serbs during the war in Bosnia, 1992-1995, against Bosnian Muslim terrorists, and in 1999 against Albanian Nazi Muslims in the Serbian province of Kosovo.

This is link to a Serbian wartime song, which was made during the war in Bosnia. The song is about the Serbian hero commander, Mitar Maksimovic, who is in the middle of the photo. On the far right side of the photograph you can see his a Jewish member of his military brigade, with the star of David on his uniform.

Thank you, my serbian brother. I find some more about history of zionist infiltration in Serbia.

Quote:
The Jews in Serbia have always been treated well. And difficult to imagine the Serbian history without brothers Rybnikar, Getse Kona Nusic or Davicho . In times of royal Yugoslavia the number of Jews increased from 13 000 (and 500 in Kosovo) in the 71 thousands. From 1919 to 39. (Census data). And they lived not in Zagreb nor Ljubljana, but in Serbia, in Belgrade and the surrounding area. According to the Union of Jewish Communities in Serbia in 1939-41 arrived 55 thousand Jewish immigrants. There is a study of E. Gajic "Yugoslavia and the Jewish Question" (1938). It says that "in Yugoslavia no formal or any other discrimination against Jews, anti-Semitism and all kinds of strange Yugoslav, and especially Serbian people [alien]." Moreover, from the Austro-Hungarian Empire at the time Jews fled to Serbia. Not to be unfounded - the history of the wound Neubauer, who became Novakovic

Moreover, the Serbs and Jews lived and suffered in Serbia together, and loved it together. And the Serbian shrine - Miroslav Gospel - on their hands through Albania, during the exodus of the Serbian army, carried Serbian Jew Abram Levich, and in gratitude Serbs erected a synagogue in Belgrade.
By the way as you say Bosnia most infiltrated. I remembered that Gavrilo Princip was also from Bosnian serb place.

Gavrilo Princip - the man responsible for World War 1, war led to Balfur declaration, victory of zionist jews, and also to creation of Yugoslavia at the same time. possible jew and mason.

In modern ZOG infiltrated Serbia he is considered great national hero of Serbia. ZOG servant president of Serbia Tomislav Nikolic declared him a freedom hero of ZOG.
Quote:
Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic described Princip as a freedom fighter and a hero.

"Today, we are not afraid of the truth," Nikolic said. "Gavrilo Princip was a hero, a symbol of the idea of freedom, the assassin of tyrants and the carrier of the European idea of liberation from slavery ," Nikolic told the crowd.

Gavrilo Princip, assassin who sparked WWI, gets statue in Belgrade
Gavrilo Princip was said to be part of a world-wide plot by the Freemasons. Erich von Ludendorff, the Chief of the German Staff, called Princip a “Jew” and alleged that he was part of a Freemason plot in collusion with Austrian, German, and Hungarian Freemasons. Julius Streicher’s official Nazi Party periodical Volkischer Beobachter in a January 8, 1936 article stated that Princip was “a Jew and a Freemason”. On April 6, 1941, on the occasion of the German invasion of Yugoslavia, Adolf Hitler, Austrian by birth, alleged that Gavrilo Princip was part of a plot organized by the British Intelligence Service and held Serbia responsible for the assassination.

Believe me, Slobodan Miloševic was a Zionist traitor too. His zionist junta in Belgrade ruined our Serbian dream of Greater Srbija, co-working on Clintons side Miloševic killed Serbian patriots such as Arkan and put our country into deep shit. I believe Miloševic was bought off in New York while he was drinking whiskey with Rotšilds:

Elie Wiesel Seeks Adequate Punishment for Srebrenica Genocide

Courtesy: Bosniak and Jewish Solidarity (NGO). Bosnian Muslims and Jews have joint experience in persecution and genocide in Europe.

In Elie Wiesel's words: "It was in late 1992. I had come to do research on the situation in Bosnia and Serbia. Disturbing, even revolting reports were trickling back to us. Newspapers, radio and TV stations were broadcasting horrendous images: cities bombarded, corpses lying in mass graves, massacred children, mutilated men, raped women. Reports of odious deeds were circulating: Tuzla, Srebrenica entered the annals of crimes against humanity. The words "Auschwitz in Bosnia" were solemnly pronounced.
No point in arguing - the pigheaded Karadzic denied it all. People might ask: How can you ever adequately punish a man who is guilty of ordering the assassination of 8,000 human beings? Good question."

Jews are Fighting in the Bosnian Army side by side with Muslims

This article offers uniquely rare insight into the Jewish life in the besieged Sarajevo in 1992. Side by side with their Muslim neighbours, Jewish people fought in the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and thus contributed to the defense of the country from Serbian aggression. The article was first published on 5 September 1992 by Kentucky New Area newspapers. (Republished with the permission from the Institute for the Research of Genocide, Canada)

With Bosnian war raging, Jewish group celebrates life

By John Pomfret

SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina — On a ping-pong table in a cluttered room next to a synagogue, Zoya Finci works to restore ancient parchments – Hebrew scripts telling the story of the exodus of Jews from the Holy Lands. A dab of acetone here, a swab of alcohol there.

Despite the crash of mortars and heavy machine-gun fire outside, Finci is preparing for an exhibition. With an almost heroic obstinacy, the Jews of Sarajevo are planning to celebrate their 500 years in the city.
“It only comes once every 500 years,” said the middle-age University of Sarajevo art professor, whose family has lived in Sarajevo for four centuries.

“We can’t postpone it. We have to celebrate it despite the bloodshed.”

About 1,000 Jews are left from an original population of 1,600. About 600 women, children and elderly have been evacuated since the war for control of Bosnia-Herzegovina began between the mainly Muslim government and the self-proclaimed Serbian Republic of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Some went to Israel, others to Austria and Italy. Spain, where 95 percent of the Sephardic Jews in Sarajevo trace their roots, took 50 families.

Ivan Ceresnjes, 47, the president of the Jewish community, said only a few more Jews want to leave.

“The rest will stay in Sarajevo,” he said. “We are Bosnians first.”

Jews are fighting in the Bosnian army – side by side with Muslims. They are in the police force and work in civil defense, he said. The Jewish graveyard, with tombs dating to the 16th century, is a Serbian stronghold. Serb militiamen have placed a heavy machine-gun in its chapel.

The tribulations of Ceresnjes’ family highlights the sometimes colorful, often tragic history of the Jews in this part of the world.

Expelled from Spain during the Inquisition, the first Jews came to the hard scrabble country around Sarajevo in September 1492 — the year Christopher Columbus landed in the Americas. Records kept in the city say the first Jews arrived on Sept. 11, the date this year’s exhibition begins.

Boats from the Ottoman Empire — which saved Jews and Arabs alike from the religious suppression launched by the Roman Catholic Church in Spain — brought them to the Balkans.

In recognition, they invited Turkish President Turgut Ozal to the exhibition.

“I don’t think he’ll come,” Finci said with a sigh, as another mortar shell landed nearby.

Ceresnjes’ father, Alexander, returned to Spain during the Spanish Civil War in the 1930s to join Communist forces. In World War II, he was interned in France. He escaped, volunteering for the British 8th Army for the liberation of Italy.

There he met his wife, a psychological operations officer with the British and also a Sephardic Jew.

They married. She became pregnant. Alexander Ceresnjes went to Hungary after liberation and she returned to Sarajevo, where Ceresnjes was born.

Alexander Ceresnjes became the minister of information for the Hungarian government; in 1948, he was jailed for eight years in a Soviet prison camp for opposing the Soviet takeover in Budapest. He died later in Hungary.

“For the last 400 years, none of my family has died in Sarajevo,” Ceresnjes said. It is a classical Jewish tale. We are from this place but cannot die here.”

Jakob Finci’s family, a distant relative of Zoya’s, followed another path. for the past 500 years, all his relatives have been born or died in Sarajevo – except him.

He was born in a concentration camp run by the pro-Nazi Ustasha militia in Croatia in 1943. Now, he is a lawyer and vice president of the Jewish community’s Educational and Humanitarian Society.

Spanish traditions died hard among the Jews of Sarajevo. They pray in Castilian Spanish, greet each other with “Buenos dias” and pick Iberian names for their children, such as Estella and Juan.

For now, no synagogue remains in Sarajevo. Three rocket attacks forced the community to remove the torah and holy books from the Arc – the room where they were kept – stripping it of its religious nature.

Jews Urge U.S. to Help Bosnian Muslims and Prevent New Holocaust

The following article, entitled “Nazi campaign: Al Gore urged not to allow repeat”, was published on 20 April 1993 by The Southeast Missourian.

By John King, (AP)

WARSAW – Polish Jews recalled the Nazi campaign to exterminate their families and implored Vice President Al Gore on Monday to prevent a repeat of the Holocaust’s horrors against Bosnian Muslim (Bosniak) communities in Bosnia.

“The world must do more to stop these outrages,” Gore said with evident emotion after the pleadings.

The dramatic entreaties came as Gore visited Poland to mark the 50th anniversary of the Warsaw ghetto uprising, a valiant but unsuccessful revolt against the Nazis by Jews they had confined to one area of the city. Execution by the Germans, disease and hunger has reduced the ghetto from 500,000 to 60,000 at the time of the revolt in April 1943. The Nazis killed most of the rebels.
Gore also held the Clinton administration’s first meetings with senior Polish officials, including President Lech Walesa and Prime Minister Hanna Suchocka. He assured them that the United States remains committed to Poland’s democracy and evolving market economy.

“No other country in Eastern or Central Europe has been as bold and as effective in making the transition to a free market economy,” Gore said.

The vice president also met with Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, who was in Warsaw for the uprising anniversary. But all the diplomatic pomp was overshadowed by an early afternoon meeting in a Jewish community center. Polish Jews summoned the pain of the Holocaust, in which six million European Jews were killed by the Nazis, to impress upon Gore their moral case for preventing a present-day repeat in Bosnia.

Much of the violence in the former Yugoslavia has been directed at Bosnian Muslims in what U.S. and allied officials have said is part of a campaign of “ethnic cleansing” directed by Serbs.

Rabbi Pinchas Joskowicz, a concentration camp survivor, pointedly asked Gore what the United States would do to avoid allowing “the Holocaust of 50 years ago to occur again.”

A short time later, a Jewish journalist from Poland told Gore he had been to Sarajevo and witnessed the suffering.

“You are the vice president of the biggest superpower in the world,” said Konstanty Gebbert.

Gebbert said the carnage in the former Yugoslavia had made him think for the first time that the Warsaw ghetto’s Jewish freedom fighters “maybe actually lost” if their uprising failed to put the world on notice to prevent any future Holocaust.

Visibly moved, Gore recounted U.S. efforts to tighten sanctions on the Serbs and said those efforts had intensified in recent days.

Jewish Groups Express Outrage Over Atrocities in Bosnia

By: Debra Nussbaum Cohen
The Jewish Post & News, 12 August 1992.

NEW YORK (JTA) – In language rife with the imagery of the Holocaust, leaders of Jewish organizations are calling on the United States and the United Nations to put an end to the atrocities being perpetrated by Serbian nationalists against Moslem [Bosniak] and Croatian residents of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Though the 600 Jews who remain in Sarajevo are not in more danger than any other residents of the besieged Bosnian capital, the brutal attacks on innocent men, women and children throughout the former Yugoslav state are resonating in the collective memory of the Jewish community. For Jews, the events unfolding in Bosnia eerily echo the Holocaust, when world leaders ignored early reports of the atrocities committed by the Nazis.
The republic’s still-functioning government claims that Serbian nationalists have set up 94 concentration camps around the country, have detained approximately 238,000 people and have killed 9,100 of their civilians captives.

The existence of two concentration camps in the northern part of the republic, in which at least 1,350 civilians have been murdered, and in which 11,000 more are being held until they die, was reported Aug. 2 by two men who said they had been held there.

In total, upwards of 20,000 people have reportedly been killed and tens of thousands have been injured by the strife.

In addition, 2.5 million residents of the recently-independent republic have fled their homes and become refugees, according to a statement released by the Bosnian government’s mission to the United Nations. Human rights agency representatives have been denied access to all but one of the sites thought to be used as concentration camps.

The United States confirmed Aug. 3 that civilians have been tortured and murdered in Serbian-run concentration camps.

The camps are part of a policy termed “ethnic cleansing” which Serbian nationalists have instituted since early April in their effort to drive Moslems [Bosniaks] and Croats from wide areas of the republic.

Representatives of the Bosnian mission to the United Nations compared “ethnic cleansing” to apartheid and Nazi deportations and murders, and on Aug. 3 asked the world body to declare the policy a crime against humanity.

Maynard Wishner, chair of the National Jewish Community Relations Advisory Council, called upon UN Secretary Boutros Boutros-Ghali to “begin immediately to mobilize whatever UN peacekeeping forces are appropriate” to restore peace.

Israel Offers Help to Bosnian Muslims

WASHINGTON – President Bush vowed Friday that he would not rest until Serbian-run prison camps were opened to outside inspection, but he stopped short of threatening to bomb Serbian positions and targets to gain access.

On the question of military action to keep relief supplies flowing, which the United States is pressing the United Nations to authorize, Bush insisted that any U.S. involvement must be part of a U.N. effort. But the British and the French are both resisting a United Nations authorization vote.

Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin said Friday that Jews who remember the Holocaust are particularly horrified by the detention camps in Bosnia, and offered humanitarian aid to the prisoners.

“We, the Jews, are more sensitive than anybody else – these pictures, these stories remind us of the greatest tragedy in the history of the Jewish people, the Holocaust.”

“Even though it’s on a very small scale, as it looks now, we have to do the utmost to convince others to do what should be done. We on our part are sending humanitarian assistance,” he said.

“It must not happen that the world will sit silent, especially the European Community, as this happens on the threshold of their home,” he said.

The newly elected Rabin is scheduled to meet early next week with President Bush, hoping to obtain administration approval for a $10 billion loan guarantee to help settle Soviet immigrants.

We Jews are part of the Bosnian people

The following article, entitled “Sarajevo is hit by overnight shelling,” first appeared in The Prescott Courier on 16 September 1992.

By: George Jahn

SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina – Scattered fighting was reported overnight in Bosnia, but people ventured out today despite at last four eruption of shelling in the besieged capital.

A group of about 100 ill people, half of them from Sarajevo’s 850-member Jewish community, left in a convoy of three buses bound for Split on the Croatian coast. David Kamdi, deputy head of the local Jewish community, said the convoy had guarantees of safe passage.

“There was a lot of crying this morning,” Kamdi said, and the Jews on the buses vowed to return to Sarajevo. “We Jews are part of the Bosnian people. We will never leave,” Kamdi said.
Downtown Sarajevo had been pounded Monday from Serb artillery positions monitored by U.N. troops. It was the worst shelling in a week, and the city appeared almost deserted Tuesday as people stayed indoors.

But today residents ventured forth – even though government defense officials reported occasional shelling overnight in surrounding suburbs. Bosnian state radio also reported heavy Serb-Croat fighting around Brcko, a town near the northern border with Croatia. The radio said Serb shells also were hitting the government strongholds of Tuzla, in northeastern Bosnia, Gradacac, in the north, and Bihac, northwest of Sarajevo.

A Dutch train was to pick up 500 Bosnian refugees today from neighboring Croatia, where some 50,000 Bosnian refugees are living illegally in the capital, Zagreb, alone. The Netherlands has been sending a train weekly since Sept. 2 to take 500 people on each trip to refuge in Holland.

More than 10,000 people have been killed, and more than one million displaced – more refugees than Europe has seen since World War II.

In New York, U.S.. and European Community speakers told the U.N. General Assembly’s opening session they objected to Serb-led Yugoslavia’s participation in the United Nations system, and that they would seek suspension of the federation, which now consists only of Serbia and Montenegro. Serb forces have been blamed for instigating much of the fighting in Bosnia.

Yugoslavia’s ambassador, Dragomir Djokic, took the floor to object, saying suspension could jeopardize international peace efforts.

The matter was to be decided by the 15-member Security Council later this week.

Ellie Wiesel, now there was a great man

Quote:
Holocaust Survivor Elie Wiesel Condemns Radovan Karadzic for Srebrenica Genocide

"How can you ever adequately punish a man who is guilty of ordering the assassination of 8,000 human beings [in Srebrenica]?" – asked Elie Wiesel.

INTRO: Mr. Elie Wiesel is a Jewish writer, professor, political activist, Nobel Laureate and Holocaust survivor. He is the author of over 40 books, the best known of which is Night, a memoir that describes his experiences during the Holocaust and his imprisonment in several concentration camps. Mr. Wiesel established The Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity soon after he was awarded the 1986 Nobel Prize for Peace. The Foundation’s mission, rooted in the memory of the Holocaust, is to combat indifference, intolerance and injustice through international dialogue and youth-focused programs that promote acceptance, understanding and equality.

HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR ELIE WIESEL REMEMBERS SREBRENICA GENOCIDE ARCHITECT RADOVAN KARADZIC

BY ELIE WIESEL

It’s unimaginable.

For 13 long years, we thought he was hiding out in the mountains, surrounded by bodyguards. We looked for him in underground hideouts, tracked him down in the region’s most obscure corners.

All in vain – Radovan Karadzic, the former Yugoslavia’s most infamous, most notorious fugitive, was actually a public figure. People ran into him on the street, in restaurants or at the movies; some people watched him on TV, talking about alternative health options, and no one discovered his real identity.

In fact, examining pictures of him published by the press, with his fluffy white beard and glasses, I wouldn’t have been able to unmask him myself.

And yet I had met him. If I ran into him on the street, I’d remember his face, I thought.

It was in late 1992.

Faced with various governments’ nearly official indifference, I responded to Yugoslavian President Dobrica Cosic’s invitation and, with members of Ted Koppel’s "Nightline" team, headed to Belgrade, Sarajevo and Banja Luka. We met with all the leaders in the region except the leader of Croatia. Its president, Franco Tudjman, was a Holocaust denier, and I refused to shake his hand.

But I did talk with Slobodan Milosevic. And with Karadzic, in whose palace – a real fortress – the meeting took place. His gaze was icy, haunted, unearthly. He was the all-powerful master. Why so many executions, so many murders? Was it because of some violent mysticism, a cult of death? No. For him, it was something else: a fascination with holding absolute power over his enemies as well as his allies.

I asked him why he had had the famous Sarajevo National Library burned down. Given that he himself wanted to be known as a psychiatrist and a poet, was he afraid of books and their human and humanist truth?

Red-faced with anger, pounding the table, he claimed it was the Muslims themselves who had burned down the building from the inside.

I objected. I had seen the library in ruins: the damaged walls, the artillery scars. The building had been attacked from the outside.

No point in arguing – the pigheaded Karadzic denied it all.

The idea of creating an international tribunal was mine. One day, when I was in the office of Secretary of State Lawrence Eagleburger, we talked about the tragic situation in Bosnia. What were the options? Political, humanitarian, military?

That was when I suggested creating an international tribunal. My argument was that only indicting the killers for war crimes and crimes against humanity would frighten them. There would be no statute of limitations, and they would have to be extradited. Eagleburger thought it was a good idea and proposed it in his negotiations with the allies in the U.S. and Europe.

And yes, I think major criminals should be brought to trial before international courts in order to have a historical and also a pedagogical impact on future generations.

People might ask: How can you ever adequately punish a man who is guilty of ordering the assassination of 8,000 human beings? Good question. It seems that, by its sheer scope, the crime outweighs the punishment. And yet, these trials help our collective memory. For that reason alone, they are justified.

The shocking fact remains: Karadzic succeeded in walking free. For 13 long years. He lived without bodyguards, in Bosnian cities and villages, while local and international police and NATO agents were trying to track him down.

Whose fault was it? Who was responsible? Who were the accomplices?

Was his disguise that good, that successful? Perhaps, may God help us, beneath the killer’s mask, there was a failed actor?

Wiesel, Andrew Mellon Professor of the Humanities at Boston University, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986. A Holocaust survivor, he was one of the leading voices to call the world’s attention to atrocities in the former Yugoslavia. This article, written exclusively for the Daily News, was translated from the French by Sharon Bowman.

Bosnian Muslims suffering like Jews under Nazis, Jewish Chairman Warns

(Article courtesy of San Francisco Jewish Community Publications Inc., dba Jewish Bulletin of Northern California. Published on Friday, July 28, 1995.)

Bosnian Muslims suffering like Jews under Nazis, official says

by Jewish Telegraphic Agency

“The expulsion terror practices in Bosnia today is quite comparable to what happened from the beginning of the Third Reich to the outbreak of the war,” Ignatz Bubis, chairman of the central council of Jews in Germany, told German radio last week.

Bubis said he could not understand why the United Nations and NATO have not learned the lessons that came from appeasing the Nazis before the outbreak of World War II.

In the interview, Bubis said he supported Western military intervention on behalf of the Bosnian Muslims, who, after a three-year-old war, are under increasing attack by the rebel Bosnian Serb forces.
However, Bubis limited his comparison of the Bosnian plight to that of the Jews before the “systematic annihilation of the Jewish people.”

Similar outcries have echoed throughout the Jewish world over the past week, as Bosnian Serb forces have heightened their assault against the U.N. “safe havens” in Bosnia.

Bosnian Serbs captured Srebrenica, one of the U.N. “safe havens” last week. They have also stepped up attacks on others, including Bosnian capital, Sarajevo.

The takeover of Srebrenica has also set off a new round of emergency aid shipments by Jewish organizations.

Last week, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee set into motion an emergency shipment of food, medicine and clothing for tens of thousands of refugees from Srebrenica.

The shipment from Split, Croatia, set out Monday and is expected to reach Tuzla — where many of the refugees from Srebrenica are located — with minor difficulties because it will have not have to encounter Bosnian Serb checkpoints, said Yechiel Bar-Chaim, the Joint’s country director for the former Yugoslavia.

A total of 60 tons of supplies destined for the besieged capital of Sarajevo are being held up by Bosnian Serbs 10 miles outside the city, Bar-Chaim said in a telephone interview from Split.

The Joint is working in conjunction with La Benevolencija, the humanitarian aid society of the Sarajevo Jewish community, and World Jewish Relief, the British humanitarian organization.

As a group, the Jews in Bosnia have not taken sides in the war. This allows them to carry out their humanitarian missions.

In Britain, a newly created coalition of Jewish organizations launched what has been described as an unprecedented emergency appeal for Bosnian war victims.

Britain’s chief rabbi, Jonathan Sacks, said, “There is a moral imperative for Jews everywhere to intervene in the face of racism and xenophobia.”

At the same time, however, the Jewish Board of Deputies, British Jewry’s umbrella organization, was considering toning down a statement on the situation for fear of creating a backlash against Jews in Serbia.

“There is a feeling that anything said by Jews outside is liable to misinterpretation by anti-Semitic factions,” said Neville Nagler, chief executive of the board.

In the Middle East, Israel and Jordan joined forces to coordinate a humanitarian aid effort for Muslim refugees in Bosnia. Under a joint operation called “Peace in the Middle East — Peace in the World,” two planes, one Israeli and one Jordanian, flew to Bosnia on Tuesday to bring medical supplies, clothing, blankets and other aid to the war victims.

The Jordanian and Israeli planes took off separately from Amman and Tel Aviv for Split, Croatia. There, their cargoes were unloaded and redirected to Tuzla, where thousands of Bosnian Muslims have fled from Bosnian Serb attacks.

Rabin last week called Jordan Television during a telethon to raise money for the Bosnian Muslims. He made a personal pledge of $3,000.

Rabin told the television audience that he condemned the attacks by the rebel Serbs on the Muslims in Bosnia, adding that Israel opposes all assaults on people based on their religion, be they “Jewish, Muslim or Christian.”

Back in the United States, leaders of the organized Jewish community, though silent for many months, are again raising their voices against the escalating war in Bosnia.

The National Jewish Community Relations Advisory Council said it was outraged at the deterioration of the situation in Bosnia.

“We deplore the United States’ failure to provide effective international leadership while millions of people have been forced to flee their homes and hundreds of thousands have been killed because of their ethnicity or religion.” said Lynn Lyss, the umbrella group’s chair, in a statement earlier this month.

Both the NJCRAC and the American Jewish Congress called on President Clinton and Congress to end the arms embargo on Bosnia.

In a letter to Clinton, David Kahn, the AJ Congress president, and Phil Baum, its executive director, wrote: “It is time for our leaders to recognize the clear failure of the present policies, and at long last allow the Bosnian government to defend its citizens from further aggression and put a stop to the genocide.”

The Los Angeles-based Simon Wiesenthal Center has also written to the president, urging him to commit to prosecuting the Serbian leaders who are responsible for the current policy of ethnic cleansing in Bosnia.
