Australia has ‘long way to go’ before ‘sport is safe space’ for indigenous stars: Dangerfield

July 23, 2020

Patrick Dangerfield has warned Australia still has “a long way to go” before sport is a “safe environment” for the nation’s indigenous athletes.

Sydney Swans star Adam Goodes retired from the game in 2015 following relentless booing after calling out racial abuse by a Collingwood supporter.

Years later, the AFL’s indigenous stars still suffer racial vilification, with Carlton’s Eddie Betts and West Coast’s Liam Ryan among those targeted this year.
