I get the impression that "blacks are OK" with the BNP. And their only real problem is with Muslims.

• 26 police officers injured and 42 arrests for violent disorder, theft and burglary.
• London Fire Brigade received 264 emergency calls between 9.30pm on Saturday and 4.30am today.
• Around 50 fires left buildings, cars and buses devastated.

Looks like it will be kicking off again elsewhere.

Many are linking last night's events with the late cancellation of Hackney Carnival today. There are also rumours flying around Twitter of riots planned for Enfield and Edmonton.

Take a read of this complete shit from the SWP. Why should a senior police officer have to address these savages? Also no mention of why Mark Duggan was shot in the first place.

Rage at the police hits the streets of north London

Anger against the police burst out in Tottenham, north London last night after a protest about the police killing of local black man Mark Duggan.

Around 200 of Mark's family and friends had marched earlier in the evening from Broadwater Farm estate to protest outside Tottenham police station about Mark’s death. He had been shot dead on Thursday evening.

There were whole families with young children, some with home-made placards, and they chanted “No justice, no peace”.

As they gathered on the steps of the police station they were promised that a senior police offer would address them and answer their questions. But this didn’t happen.

Within hours, anger at the police exploded. Police cars and several shops and a bus were in flames. By 2am huge plumes of purple smoke engulfed north London as buildings burned.

Many hundreds of people took to the streets. They reflected the local population – all ages, black and white, Asian, as well as many Hassidic Jews.

One teenage woman, who was a friend of Mark’s, told Socialist Worker, “Everyone locally knows Mark, he has four children. He was 29 years old. He was not a young boy.

“He was shot at the end of my street. The police are meant to be trained, they should be able to stop someone without killing them. Why did they shoot him in the face? He had no chance.

“It’s racism. I have been stopped by the police lots of times. Just because I wear a hoodie. The police do not treat us with respect. Now they are seeing the results of treating us that way.

“This isn’t over. They keep killing people.

“When I saw Jewish people out tonight too I was happy. I thought, ‘It’s not just us'. They gave bread out to us. It isn’t just kids out tonight. It’s everyone.”

A group of young men were watching from the top of the high street. One told Socialist Worker, “The police say that Mark Duggan opened fire on them. But they have no proof. You can’t believe what the police say.”

For hours into the night there was a standoff as a line of riot police strung out across Tottenham High Road tried to stop more people joining the rioting further up. When police reinforcements drove through the crowds, the thuds and cracks rang through the air as the vans were bombarded by bricks and missiles.

Tottenham was the scene of mass riots in 1985 when local black mother of two Cynthia Jarrett died after the police raided her house. This came only days after police had shot another black woman, Cherry Groce, in Brixton, south London.

Weyman Bennett, who has lived in the area for many years, spoke to Socialist Worker as the crowds confronted the police. “The mood feels like the 1980s,” he said. “There is deep bitterness about police racism and about how the police harass local people with stop and search.

“Also the Tories’ cuts have meant youth services and opportunities for young people have been shut down. Unemployment has gone up. People feel they have no future.

“You can tell the poverty people are living in by what they’re looting. I saw people running off with big packs of toilet roll and disposable nappies.”

Jody McIntyre, who was dragged from his wheelchair by police during the student protests last year, was also in Tottenham last night.

“I can see why so many people have come out onto the streets,” he told Socialist Worker. “When the police shoot someone people are going to react.

“I don’t exactly know what happened when the man was shot – but I do know a police officer was injured and a man was shot dead. If it had been the other way round the man would be in jail right now.

“We have to police the police. We have to hold them accountable every time they attack us.”

I'm just hoping this is all a warm up for the Notting Hill Carnival at the end of this Month. Then the following week will be the EDL march in Tower Hamlets. Sky News cameras have caught people looting a nearby sports shop in broad daylight following the riot in Tottenham.

Footage shows a number of people walking out of JD Sports in Tottenham Hale retail park with boxes of trainers and bags of clothing.

This must be wrong - I thought it was toilet rolls they were looting?

Apparently:

Riot sparked after police beat 16 year old girl protester seeking answers after police murder young Black father of three in public.

Ken Livingstone is complaining about police cuts (!) and here is a whistleblowing police offier's opinion on the riot.

Stokes Croft in Bristol, Millbank and Parliament Square in London and now Tottenham.

And so it starts. Some of us have seen it all before of course, and we know that elitist governments always bring riots. In Bristol it was apparently the opening of a new Tesco and the eviction of squatters, in Millbank and Parliament Square it was university fees. In Tottenham it is apparently about the police having the cheek to fire back at a gangster and kill him after he shot an officer. But these are not really the reasons. These are the triggers.

The police are to blame for everything. It was the polices fault that Duggan was shot, the police who should have stopped the riots, the police who failed to prevent looting and the one which shocked me most as I watched Sky this morning, the polices fault for not policing the area in a tough enough way in the first place!

There is, however, one major difference between the set of riots and disorder we are about to experience over the next few years and the previous incidents. This time, the one set of people who we all rely upon to deal with this violence and hatred are facing seemingly random, vengeful and unnecessary pay reductions, a raid on their pensions and huge cuts to their budgets.

The amount of money saved by the attacks on our pay and conditions is irrelevant compared to the debt issues left us by the bankers and their political sponsors. We feel that the measures taken against us and our families are ideological. We feel that we are hated because we are public sector workers.

Here at the Police Inspector Blog we have good sources within police forces all over Britain. We know exactly who and what Duggan represented, we know about his past history and we know officers who have dealt with him and his attitude and reaction to police when he met them. I wouldn’t dream of publishing this information because the man is dead, and besides, there is an IPCC investigation in progress.

But I also know how many home telephones were left unanswered last night all over the Home Counties.

Constant abuse from the media about police officers being paid overtime, the lies about our ‘gold-plated’ pensions, the extreme danger of dismissal or disciplinary action faced by any police officer who even looks the wrong way at certain members of society (no matter what they are doing) and the huge potential cuts in our wages will have an effect. We cannot strike but we don’t have to volunteer to come in when we are off duty either.

As usual, an elitist government wants it all, and as usual we are about to see the consequences. Summer 2011 could be the time when at last the private sector see for themselves just how much public sector provision in Britain relies upon ‘good will’ and loyalty. Both of those principles demand reciprocation, Margaret Thatcher and Tony Blair know that much.

Gadget Note: Here are the top five potential flash points which concern Gadget readers for the future – the Gypsy eviction at Dale Farm in Essex in September, the EDL march in Tower Hamlets in the same month (can’t see that going ahead now) the Notting Hill Carnival, the IPCC announcement that Duggan was armed and shot a police officer before he was shot and the Olympics. As a County riot-trained police officer I could be asked to go to some or all of those.

So gadget openly admits that the "containment" "hands off" policy is a tactic employed by the police to ensure unlimited overtime and pension featherbedding.I was quite pleased to note the court media claiming it was all colours and creeds rioting as no normal person can idenify a single Englishman among the looters.
What we have here is set in stone proof should any be needed that diversity does not work.

Terrified families, shops being looted, no police in sight- #enfield #riots

Enfield Town market area is filled up with hoodies (PLENTY of them!) and only about 10-20 police (scared!) officers..

RIOT police have arrived in Enfield Town as small groups of hooded youngsters arrive in cars and on buses and trains.

After messages on social networking sites Twitter and Facebook that rioting that started in Tottenham would spread to Enfield at 4pm, there is no large-scale disorder, but police are using stop-and-search on people arriving in the area.

Around 100 people are waiting in small groups of 4 or 5 around Enfield Town Station in Southbury Road, as police in riot vans continue to arrive.

A spokesman for Enfield Town's businesses said that after warning spread on Twitter and by text message, they told shops and pubs to close down at around 3pm, although some fast-food restaurants remain open.

The Enfield Independent saw a group of teenagers being arrested by officers.

Police helicopters continue to hover over the area.

Yes it's true. A friend just drove through there and said he saw the local branch of 'Next' being looted. No wool or nylon items were taken though because the looters were cotton pickers.

Haringey newspaper claims no rioting.

THERE is a heavy police presence in Enfield Town centre but no indication of rioting at present, reports David Hardiman.

Rumours on Twitter and other social media suggest rioters are planning further action in and around Enfield Town centre.

Enfield Town Park is currently closed and alleyways between Palace Garden shopping centre are being guarded by police.

There is also a heavy police presence outside Enfield Town station where people arriving on trains and buses are being searched.

Rumours on Twitter of several fires in town centre shops appear to be false.

Well, now they're trying to say that a 16 year old girl who was at the peaceful protest outside the police station politely asked a copper when the IPCC was going to make a statement about the shooting, and they jumped on her and battered her with batons. That's the new reason why the riot started.
