Angry ZOG Arrests Former Bosnian Serb General Ratko Mladic

President confirms arrest of Ratko Mladić

Source: B92

BELGRADE -- Serbian President Boris Tadić confirmed during a news conference in Belgrade today that a man suspected to be Hague fugitive Ratko Mladić has been arrested.

Tadić said the arrest operation was carried out by Serbia's intelligence agency BIA and the Service for Discovering War Crimes.

According to reports earlier in the day, the Serbian police arrested on Thursday a man going by the name of Milorad Komadić, who was suspected to be former VRS General Ratko Mladić.

B92 previously received confirmation that a man suspected to be Mladić was in custody.

The secret operation came after a tip-off that Komadić "possessed some identification documents of Ratko Mladić and was physically very similar to him", the Zagreb-based Jutarnji List reported earlier today.

The report did not mention the location where the arrest took place. B92 has unofficially learned that the operation took place in the village of Lazarevo, near the town of Zrenjanin in northern Serbia.

B92 contacted the police, but was told only that an indentity check and a DNA analysis were "ongoing", and that a complete DNA analysis would take three days to complete.

The former military leader of Serbs in Bosnia is wanted by the Hague Tribunal on genocide and war crimes charges.

Two injured in rioting in northern town

Source: Beta

NOVI SAD, BELGRADE -- About 500 people took to the streets of Novi Sad, in Vojvodina, northern Serbian, to protest against the arrest of Ratko Mladić.

They tried to force their way to the Radio-Television of Vojvodina building, but were prevented by a large number of police officers in full riot gear.

The demonstrators then threw rocks at the local office of the ruling Democratic Party (DS). Police appeared from the building, dispersing the crowd.

Two protesters were left lying on the street injured. Others fled in small groups, but gathered again in the town's central square.

Reports said that there are about 100 demonstrators there tonight.

Earlier in the evening, they physically assaulted a man in front of the television outlet's building, "after which a free-for-all broke out" said reports.

The demonstrators shouted insults aimed at Interior Minister Ivica Dačić, as well as "Ustashas" - a reference to WW2 Croat Nazis.

They also turned over garbage containers, lit flares, and chanted, "Knife, wire, Srebrenica" - a reference to the Srebrenica massacre - and described Serbian President and DS party leader Boris Tadić as "Ustasha", calling for an "uprising" in Serbia.

In Belgrade, police intervened several times against small groups of young men who gathered in support of Ratko Mladić.

The protesters also lit flares, chanting "Thank you, Ratko", "Save Serbia and kill yourself, Boris", while advising policemen to "go to Kosovo".

The MUP, meanwhile, sent its officers to beef up security around the government and parliament buildings, as well as the City Assembly, the Presidency, and the state broadcaster, RTS.

Judge suspends interrogation due to Mladić's ill health

Source: B92, Beta, Tanjug

BELGRADE -- Belgrade Higher Court's War Crimes Department Judge Milan Dilparić this evening suspended his interrogation of Ratko Mladić.

The decision came due to the poor condition of the suspect's physical and mental health, said reports.

Mladić's lawyer Miloš Šaljić stated for the media that Dilparić attempted to interview Mladić, but that he failed due to the former general's inability to communicate.

The judge could not even manage to have Mladić confirm his personal data, said the lawyer, adding that his client on several occasions attempted to talk to the prosecutors, "especially to Deputy War Crimes Prosecutor Bruno Vekarić".

But Šaljić said that his client spoke incoherently. He denied reports that Mladić was examined by doctors earlier today, saying this was yet to happen.

Mladić's lawyer expects that the judge will tomorrow attempt to continue the interview.

Šaljić added that his client was aware that he had been placed under arrest and of his current whereabouts, and that he did state that he "did not recognize the Hague Tribunal".

Mladić also asked about his family, Šaljić said. They are expected to visit him in custody tomorrow.

The lawyer confirmed that although armed during the arrest which took place earlier on Thursday, Mladić did not wish to use his weapons.

Earlier this afternoon, a convoy of vehicles left the headquarters of the intelligence agency BIA, and entered the Special Court's yard around 16:00 CET.

Mladić was also to hear the Hague indictment issued against him, after which the court was to decide on his extradition to the UN war-crimes court.

The former military leader of Serbs in Bosnia has the right to appeal that decision.

The final word on the extradition will be given by the Serbian Ministry of Justice. The procedure could take up to a week.

Earlier in the day, Serbian President Boris Tadić confirmed during a news conference held in Belgrade that Mladić had been arrested.

B92 learned that Mladić was not wearing a beard or any disguise, and that his appearance showed he had "aged considerably".

According to this, one of his arms is paralyzed.

The 69-year-old did not resist arrest, and was "very cooperative", said our sources.

Reports earlier on Thursday said that BIA members assisted by police, arrested Mladić in the village of Lazarevo, near the town of Zrenjanin in northern Serbia.

The villagers who spoke to reporters said they were "unaware that anyone named Milorad Komadić lived there", but that they this morning "spotted police at the Mladić household" - the family are reportedly relatives of the former Bosnian Serb military commander.

This is consistent with Interior Minister Ivica Dačić's statement made this evening, when he denied that Mladić was hiding using an assumed identity. Early reports said that a man named "Milorad Komadić, who strongly resembled Mladić" was arrested.

Mladić is wanted by the Hague Tribunal on charges of genocide and war crimes committed in Bosnia during the 1992-95 war.

Eyewitness describes Mladić arrest

Ratko Mladić was arrested in Lazarevo, in the house of his relative identified with his initials B.M., Tanjug news agency was told by an eyewitness who wished to remain anonymous.

According to Tanjug's correspondent, Mladić's first neighbor said that he was in the house at the moment of the arrest operation and that he helped the Hague indictee put his clothes on.

Inhabitants of Lazarevo said that security forces broke into the house of B.M., where he used to live alone, around 05:30 CET.

Several dozen villagers are not allowing journalists to approach the house in which Mladic was allegedly arrested blocking the road with a trailer.

There are police officers in the village.

According to eyewitnesses, who also wanted to stay anonymous, police forces searched three more houses of "immigrants from Bosnia-Herzegovina" on Thursday morning.

EU officials react to arrest of Hague fugitive

Source: Tanjug

BRUSSELS -- President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek welcomed on Thursday the arrest of former commander of the Bosnian Serb Army Ratko Mladić.

Mladić's arrest is a proof of Serbia's efforts in cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), Burzek said.

Burzek pointed out that the arrest of Mladić is good news for Serbia and regional stability, and that it will be an impetus for Serbia's EU integration process.

At the same time Burzek recalled that Goran Hadžić - a former political leader of Serbs in Croatia - is still at large and that all possible efforts should be made to arrest and bring him to justice.

"Extradition without delay"
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton called on Serbia Thursday to lose no time in extraditing Ratko Mladić to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).

Ashton expects Mladić to be delivered to the ICTY without delay, her spokesperson Michael Mann has stated.

Mann added that Ashton welcomed Mladić's arrest as an important step forward for Serbia and international justice.

Ashton is scheduled to arrive in Serbia soon.

Sad that people in the west see him as a mass murderer. The Muslims were a hang over of the Ottoman days. All he tried to do was help bring all Serbs into a Greater Serbia.

Mladić rejects Hague indictment against him

Source: Beta, Tanjug

BELGRADE -- Hague war crimes indictee Ratko Mladić was today interviewed by a judge at Belgrade's Special Court.

During the proceedings, which lasted some 30 minutes, the former Bosnian Serb Army general refused to receive the indictment raised against him by the Hague Tribunal.

He will remain at the Special Court until his extradition.

Mladić's lawyer was given the extradition papers immediately after the hearing, and he has until Monday to appeal, a judge said earlier in the day.

During the hearing, which lasted about 30 minutes, Mladić refused to receive the indictment, and he will remain at the Special Court until his extradition.

The court said that it received the certificate that Mladić is fit for further proceedings, regardless of his chronic ill health.

Deputy War Crimes Prosecutor Bruno Vekarić, who was present at the interview, stated previously that Mladić should be extradited to The Hague in a week's time at the latest and that it was important to adequately carry out the extradition in accordance with laws.

“It is important that his identity has been determined. Everything depends on his defense, whether he is going to file an appeal, but a maximum deadline is seven days,“ the deputy war crimes prosecutor explained.

According to him, Mladić did not make any special demands after the arrest. He is under constant medical supervision and the investigative judge is taking care not to upset his health.

“The investigative judge clearly shows that he is willing to respect his human rights and last night's interrogation was stopped because he (Mladić) had to take his medicine at a certain point,“ Vekarić stressed.

He stated that the authorities needed to investigate how Croatian media had managed to find about Mladić's arrest first.

Mladić was taken to the investigative judge last night around 19:30 CET but the interrogation was suspended due to the suspect's poor physical and mental health.

The investigative judge will read the indictment to Mladić and the Higher Court in Belgrade Special Department will then determine whether all conditions for his extradition to the Hague Tribunal are fulfilled.

Mladić has a right to file an appeal. After the court rules on the appeal, a proposal for his extradition will be sent to the Justice Ministry which will make a final decision.

The general, who is charged with genocide and war crimes in Bosnia-Herzegovina, was arrested in the village of Lazarevo on Thursday morning.

Family to request VMA and Russian doctors

Source: B92, Tanjug

BELGRADE -- Hague indictee Ratko Mladić's wife Bosiljka and son Darko visited him in jail around 11:00 CET on Friday in Belgrade.

Darko and Bosiljka Mladić arrive to the Special Court with their lawyer (Tanjug)

Mladić's lawyer Miloš Šaljić told B92 that this was the first time they met in ten years.

According to news agencies, Mladić's wife and son came to the Special Court but did not wish to make any statements for the press.

“They will be alone with him during the visit, without any restrictions, without a judge or any official present, I won't be there either,“ Šaljić explained.

“As far as Mladić's interrogation is concerned, it is scheduled for 12:00 but it remains to be seen if it will go ahead, because it depends on findings of the doctors who examined him last night,“ the indictee's attorney pointed out.

He told B92 that Darko Mladić did last week travel to the village of Lazarevo - where Mladić was arrested yesterday - but that he said he did not meet with his father, and was unaware that he was there.

“He was in Lazarevo at another relative's patron saint day celebration, but he had no contact whatsoever (with Mladić). He didn't even imagine that his father was so close, the houses are very close. It's up to you whether you are going to believe that or not, I cannot make anyone believe something they don't. But I am sure that nobody saw Mladić, bearing in mind my contacts with the family. They had no contacts with him. Mladić is so attached to his family that he would never allow himself to put them at risk in any way by having contacts with them,“ Šaljić pointed out.

The lawyer also stated for Tanjug ttoday that, due to Ratko Mladić's ill health, he will request his transfer to a special health care institution where he would receive adequate medical care.

He also announced that he will request for Mladić to be subjected to detailed medical examinations, as well as that a medical report be compiled on whether he has the capacity to act, that is defend himself from the charges that he is facing.

Šaljić said that Mladić was examined by five doctors of the Belgrade District Court on Friday evening.

According to Serbian Deputy War Crimes Prosecutor Bruno Vekarić, Mladić spent the night at the prison unit of the Special Court under constant medical supervision.

Russian doctors

Darko Mladić stated on Friday that his father's condition was "critical", and that the family will request for him to be transferred to the Military Medical Academy (VMA) in Belgrade, and examined by an independent team of doctors.

"He recognized us," said Darko Mladić, who with his mother Bosiljka spent almost two hours in a visit to his father, whom, as he pointed out, he had not seen for ten years.

Describing his father's health condition, Darko Mladić dismissed the claims that the information about his ill health are a tactics of the defense, adding that he had already consulted doctors from Russia and asked them to come to Serbia and attend the 'independent examination.'

"He is having a hard time communicating, his right arm is almost paralyzed as he cannot use his fingers, and he has lost feeling in the right side of his body," Mladić's son stressed.

Darko Mladić said that he is not familiar with the treatment that his father is receiving, but that he knows that he had a heart examination and an MRI of the brain yesterday evening, which discovered two scars from strokes that he had suffered.

Darko Mladić did not wish to comment his father's long-time hiding, or the forthcoming process before the Hague.

According to his son, Ratko Mladić's position is that he is not guilty of the crimes that he is charged with by that court, but he is "not certain whether he will have the opportunity to prove that".

Vidi sta kaze biograf generala Ljiljana Bulatovic

Quote:

Source: Tanjug

BELGRADE -- The First Municipal Prosecution requested Friday that the acquittal of helpers of Hague Tribunal indictee Ratko Mladić be revoked.

At the end of last year, the First Municipal Court acquitted the persons accused of aiding and harboring the war crimes suspect and the charges against them were dismissed.

The Prosecution requested from the Appellate Court to modify or revoke the verdict and order a new trial.

The Appellate Court has the right to uphold, modify or revoke the verdicts and order a new trial.

By law, the crimes with which the defendants were charged entail a sentence of one to eight years in prison.

Mladić's helpers are mostly refugees from Bosnia, who during the conflict in the 1990s found refuge in Belgrade.

Party plans rally, authorities ban public gatherings

Source: B92

BELGRADE -- The Serbian authorities have ordered a ban on public gatherings in Belgrade as security was raised to the highest level in the entire country.

All this comes after the arrest on Thursday in northern Serbia of former military leader of Serbs in Bosnia Ratko Mladić.

Last night, some 700 dissatisfied citizens gathered for protests in Belgrade and Novi Sad.

Police acted to prevent rioting in Belgrade, with 35 people arrested for disorderly behavior.

In Novi Sad, protesters tried to break in the Radio and Television of Vojvodina premises and those of the ruling Democratic Party.

Police prevented them by using force, which left two rioters injured.

Meanwhile, the opposition Serb Radical Party (SRS) announced that they plan to hold a rally on Sunday in Belgrade, in protest of the arrest of Ratko Mladić.

UN Security Council welcomes Mladić arrest

Source: Tanjug

NEW YORK -- The UN Security Council has welcomed the arrest of ex-Bosnian Serb army chief and Hague Tribunal indictee Ratko Mladić.

The UN Security Council also congratulated the Serbian authorities on the arrest, assessing it was a clear demonstration of the Serbian government's cooperation with the Hague Tribunal.

"The members of the Security Council welcome the arrest of Ratko Mladić on May 26, 2011," the press statement issued by Security Council President Gerard Araud reads.

According to Araud, the UN Security Council members congratulate the Serbian authorities on the arrest, which is a clear demonstration of Serbia's cooperation with the Hague Tribunal, the France Presse agency reported.

"The members of the Security Council share the hope that the detention and transfer of Ratko Mladić will help to bring the Western Balkans region closer to reconciliation and to their European perspective," it is said in the statement.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon stated on Thursday, the day of Mladić's arrest in the village of Lazarevo near Zrenjanin that the arrest marked a historic day for international justice and thanked the Serbian government and President Boris Tadić for that.

More lies from the NATO government of Serbia, a pathetic attempt to pacify the population and prevent people from taking radical action on the streets in response to the illegal arrest.

Mladic Appeals for Calm Over His Arrest

Bosnian Serb war crimes suspect Ratko Mladic has appealed for calm after his supporters announced a rally in Serbia's capital to protest his arrest and extradition to a war crimes tribunal in The Hague.

Mladic's lawyer, Milos Saljic, told reporters Saturday in Belgrade that his client says he does not want to be the cause of unrest and there should be no bloodshed. Serbia's right-wing Radical Party announced demonstrations for Sunday outside the National Assembly in Belgrade.

Earlier Saljic said Mladic would appeal a Belgrade's court decision on Friday to extradite him to the U.N.-backed court to stand trial on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity, including genocide. He said his client is physically and mentally unable to stand trial and that he would file an extradition appeal on Monday.

Mladic's son Darko claims his father's condition is critical, and the family will request for him to be examined by an independent team of doctors. The former general has been examined by physicians in the detention facility of Serbia's war crimes court and they have approved his transfer to The Hague.

RS: Protests over Mladić’s arrest

Source: Tanjug

BANJA LUKA -- Several protests over the arrest of Ratko Mladić were held in Republic of Srpska (RS) on Friday, all of which passed by without incidents.

Ratko Mladić's photo in downtown Banja Luka

Several thousands of citizens gathered at the central square in Višegrad, eastern Bosnia-Herzegovina, after which they held a protest walk.

The protests in Višegrad were organized by the veterans' association, the RS media reported.

About 1,500 citizens gathered to protest on Saturday in Pale and Lukavica, Sarajevo suburbs populated by Serbs.

President of the student organization of the Pale Faculty of Philosophy Predrag Govedarica said that the students protested in support of the former Bosnian Serb commander.

Protest walks organized by the citizens opposing Mladić's arrest were also held in the municipalities of East New Sarajevo and East Ilidža, Sarajevo settlements belonging to the RS.

East Sarajevo veterans stated that they could not accept the fact that only Serbian generals were being arrested, whereas those from the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina were not held responsible for the crimes committed against Serbs.

Unidentified persons put up a large banner in downtown Banja Luka on Friday with Mladić's photo and a message saying “The wing is broken, but we will keep the military flight in our hearts.”

Serbian war crimes prosecutor to finally toast Mladic arrest

(AFP) – 11 hours ago

BELGRADE — For years two bottles of vintage Australian wine bearing photos of war crimes suspects Ratko Mladic and Radovan Karadzic have sat in the office of Serbian prosecutor Vladimir Vukcevic.

Gifts from former UN war crimes prosecutor Carla Del Ponte, the bottles of 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon were to be drunk when two of Europe's most-wanted men were finally arrested.

Following Mladic's arrest this week, the bottles will finally be opened, Vukcevic, Serbia's war crimes prosecutor, told AFP on Saturday.

"Now we can toast the justice," he said.

"I will call Carla Del Ponte to join me soon to open the two bottles of wine she brought me a long time ago to drink together once the job was done," Vukcevic said.

"The job is done and the time has come for a toast," he said.

Vukcevic said he resisted the temptation to open the first bottle when Karadzic was arrested in 2008 and his trial started in late 2009, saying the celebration could not be complete until Mladic was arrested.

Asked whether they would call Del Ponte's successor Serge Brammertz to join them, Vukcevic replied: "His job is just about to begin," as Mladic was expected to be transferred to The Hague next week to stand trial before the court.

The 60-year-old Vukcevic, a thin, grey-haired man with bright blue eyes, was appointed in 2006 to head the team hunting fugitives for the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY). He was already well respected for his action against war criminals in Serbia.

Scum Vladimir Vukcevic, Serbian 'war crimes' prosecuter living under US/CIA protection, just like America's local puppets in the governments of Iraq Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Thousands gather in Serbian capital to protest the arrest of Mladic

Clashes erupted in the center of the Serbian capital, where protestors have gathered to condemn the arrest and extradition of former Bosnian Serb army chief Ratko Mladic. Approximately 3,000 riot police have been deployed to the streets of the city.

Baton-wielding police fought running battles with small groups of protesters who threw stones and bottles and set off firecrackers. The unrest took place in several locations in the center of Belgrade on Sunday. There were no immediate reports of injuries or arrests, the Associated Press reported.

The rally was organized by Serbian far right groups, who consider Mladic a hero and his arrest treason. Activists were bused into Belgrade from all around the country.

Riot police are on high alert fearing a repeat of the violence that broke out when former Serbian President Radovan Karadzic was arrested. Following Mladic’s arrest, the government in Belgrade issued a ban on public gatherings.

Belgrade has been the scene of violent gatherings before, and Serbian officials clearly want nothing to tarnish the handing over of Mladic to the Hague tribunal and its hoped-for impact on Serbia’s aspiration to join the European Union.

Mladen Obradovic, a member of the Obraz nationalist movement, says that the vast majority of the Serbian people disagree with the country’s president, and that is why they are ready to protest.

“We believe that the arrest of Ratko Mladic is deeply against Serbian national interests,” he said. “We cannot understand how it could be good for a country to betray its best man.”

As for Serbia’s prospects for EU membership, Obradovic says his country will never become an EU member, because Brussels does not really want Serbia to join the club.

“They want Serbia to become part of a new kind of Ottoman Empire,” he said. “That is why they gave Turkey a new leading role on the Balkans, which means death for the Serbian nation.”

Obradovich stated that no one in Serbia believes Mladic will receive a fair trial in The Hague.

“I am sure that even our politicians do not believe that,” he said. “But they have to talk like that because they simply have some obligations toward our NATO enemies, who are now, unfortunately, ruling Serbia. We believe the future of Serbia is in alliance with Russia.

DSS: Pressure on Serbia will continue

Source: Tanjug

KIKINDA -- Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) deputy leader Aleksandar Popović said Saturday that pressure on Serbia would continue even after Ratko Mladić’s arrest.

He added that it would focus mostly on Kosovo and Republic of Srpska (RS).

“The pressure will continue because the key problem lies in the necessity to finish some work here, and I mean Kosovo and Republic of Srpska," he told a new conference after a visit to the local DSS office in Kikinda.

“The DSS experience with the Hague Tribunal from the time when the party was leading the government has convinced us that the tribunal is simply a tool to pressure Serbia and that the pressure will continue in order to accomplish certain goals," Popović stated.

He believes the goals are to establish a new country on Serbia's territory, centralize Bosnia-Herzegovina by gradually erasing the high level of autonomy the RS enjoys, which was granted by the Dayton peace agreement, and recently to eliminate the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) in Montenegro
