Talking South Korea: Video reveals humiliating detention conditions for Moroccan migrant

The video surveillance of a Moroccan imprisoned in the small cell of a migrant detention center in South Korea has sparked outrage, especially in his country of origin, France24 reports .

The recording was taken between May and June and was revealed on September 29 by his lawyer, who denounced the conditions of detention of migrants as part of deportation proceedings in South Korea.

A man lying on his stomach, feet and fists connected by ropes, his head covered with a protective mask fastened with cables reminiscent of those of Hannibal Lecter, cannibal hero of “The Silence of the Lambs”, struggles between the four walls of a narrow cell. On the back of his black T-shirt we read in Korean the inscription “protected foreigner”. This term is attributed to migrants in the deportation process, at the Hwaseong Detention Center, which brings together hundreds of illegal migrants, about 60 kilometers from Seoul.
