Chang'e-4 Lunar Probe
On December 7, 2018, China is set to launch Chang'e-4, the first probe to land on the Moon's far side, where it will deploy a rover to investigate conditions there. Incidentally, the launch comes on the 46th anniversary of the launch of Apollo 17, the last time humans ventured to the Moon.

mmmm
That video kinda reminds me of some pics from the "fake" NASA moon landings in the 1960's ...I don't hear anyone howling that the chinks are "faking" the 'landing' of their probe on the far side, where of course there's no way any of it can be independently detected from earth.
Its all being shot in a teevee studio in Shanghai, I tell ya ...those fuckin slopes! PS I'm being facetious in this in case you're wondering. Last edited by T.Garrett; January 11th, 2019 at 06:31 AM. |

CE-4 landing video. Video is sped up 2.5 times from actual descent rate.

Lunar Rover Discovers Mysterious Glass Spheres on The Far Side of The Moon
23 FEBRUARY 2022
China's Yutu-2 mission has made another fascinating discovery on the far side of the Moon. Glistening amid the dry, gray dust, the rover's panoramic camera picked out two small intact spheres of translucent glass. https://www.sciencealert.com/the-moo...lass-balls/amp I think they are too big to be the 'nova' tektites. |

Future Chinese lunar missions
China plans to launch additional lunar probes this decade, starting with Chang'e-7 in 2024 timeframe to land near the Moon's south pole to search for water ice in preparation for a manned lunar base there in the 2030s.

Chang'e-4 ...electronics made in China
The lander, equipped with an expensive radio spectrometer ...was supposed to be able to scan the sky sheltered from earth's rf pollution deployed on the dark side of the moon. It has been practically unusable since the 'historic' landing due to noisy onboard power systems designed and built in China.
This is fucking ridiculous. I as an amateur radio operator build power supplies and AC/DC distribution systems that don't interfere with my receivers at .01 - 40 Mhz where much radio astronomy is done. If I weren't able to manage this I'd quit operating on HF where I spend most of my fun time on radio. Imagine trying to copy a once in a lifetime signal from, say a station in Antarctica through a shitstorm of noise created by your own fucked up equipment? Thankfully, this Chang'e-4 was constructed in cooperation with the Dutch and the rest of its systems seem to be performing flawlessly. Itz obvious to me that the chinks by themselves are not ready for "prime time" in these types of endeavors. I've never heard of issues like this with US or Russian spacecraft. And think on this. Our countries are flooded with cheap chinese consumer electronics where even less attention was paid to design than in the sorry ass Chang'e-4 Quote:
BTW, I am available for consultation on power supplies ... Last edited by T.Garrett; June 15th, 2022 at 07:15 AM. Reason: consult offer :) |

I didn't know the Bunny Girl probe had that crappy of electronics. The novelty is it's the first spacecraft to land on the lunar far side. The chink Mars rover seems to be doing okay, though.
I'm just disappointed Hitler's Iron Sky base hasn't been found.
