Default Color TV: More complex than you ever imagined

Even when you're watching a late-night infomercial on a cheap little set from Wal-Mart, an astounding process is taking place to turn a seemingly black-and-white signal into full color:

Of course, this only applies to analog television, which has been mostly phased out, but was the standard for decades.

For the inquisitive, this guy's channel has more videos that dive deep into the inner workings of audio/video technology. Few really understand just how much engineering expertise was needed to make high quality, push-button home entertainment possible.

I honestly don't see any difference in picture quality between analog and digital TV. And over-the-air analog signals didn't go out near as much unless there was a failure at the transmitter site. Digital is total shit in that regard, it's always crapping out. Sometimes new isn't necessarily better.
