My knowledge of physics isn't sufficient to give an exact answer, but my best guess is that, if you were traveling at 1/10 the speed of light, you would have to pass uncomfortably close to a sun or a gas giant to slow down enough to be captured by its gravity, and even if you managed to pull that off, the G-forces would be so high that it would kill the crew. On the other hand, decelerating at a comfortable 1-G would provide an earth-like artificial gravity during the approach phase.
