What are to be avoided are the trendy white-trash names that appear and disappear. Or, better put, appear like viruses, and mutate into a thousand misspelled forms. You don't want a firework name. You want a name that is solid, permanent, classic, respected, known. Trust your material. If Li'l Balljuice has anything from the ball, he'll have something on the ball, and he won't need your stupid, subartistic attempt to moniker him to the moon. You can't "make" your kid with the name you give it, but you can handicap it socially. The intelligent people, who manage society, will take your crappy downscale flash name as indicating a genetically based streak of unreliability. They will think you, your name, will make them look bad, and just maybe your genetic familial weakness will emerge in a pinch to scotch things. If you think I'm joking...I'm not. This is how people who run things actually think, and there's good reason for it. |

I do like the bible names for boys. Luke, Nathaniel, James. Last year when I thought I might be expecting we talked about names and decided on Luke for a boy. For girls I love Angelica or Abigail.

Luke is Greek however, it stems from the same word for "light" that the name Lucifer is derived from, which means "light-bringer". The Biblical Lucifer was a deceased king of Babylon. |

I think it is interesting how many Christians came to erroneously conflate the name of the Babylonian king, Lucifer, with the identity of the fallen angel Azazel, who was cast out of heaven for rebellion, and the title Satan, which was given not to a fallen angel, but to an angel in good standing with Yahweh, who could freely walk both the earth and enter heaven at will, as well as engage in making bets with Yahweh about the faithfulness of humans, such as Job from the land of Uz. The basis of these parallels seems to stem from ancent Canaanite mythology, where Attar, the god of the morning-star and son of the Dawn made a failed attempt to take the throne of the god Baal, and was punished by being made to rule over the underworld - a theme repeated later in the Hebrew legend of Azazel. The Bible compares the Babylonian king Lucifer to the Canaanite story of the fallen morning star in Isaiah 14:1-28: Quote:

Do you pronounce it "Loo-shun" or "Lu-cee-en"? My middle name is Lewis, which was the maiden name of my great-great-grandmother, who was of Welsh descent. |
