Hague: Expert witness died of natural causes

Dusan Dunjic, a Serbian doctor and an expert court witness, who was last week found dead in a hotel room in The Hague, died of natural causes.

The Belgrade-based daily Politika said it learned this unofficially.

According to the article, the initial results of an autopsy confirmed that Dunjic died of natural causes.

He was in The Hague as a defense witness and was due to testify in the trial of Ratko Mladic. His body was found in the Crown Plaza hotel by a hotel maid and a Hague Tribunal (ICTY) representative.

Dunjic's family doubted that he died of natural causes, so the autopsy was attended, in addition to the Dutch doctors, also by Serbian pathologist Djordje Alimpijevic.

Business as usual in the Hague. He just happens to die in his hotel room of "natural causes" the day before he was supposed to testify for the Mladic trial.

The Hague has a great history. Seven Serbs died before they even arrived. Five Serbs died while on trial, including president Milosevic. Another four died while serving out their sentences, one of them being former Serbian Krajina leader Milan Babic.
