Body Care

Body Lotion
What you will need:

This Body lotion is nice but contains lanolin.

1 cup of aloe vera gel
1 teaspoon of lanolin
1 teaspoon of pure vitamin E oil
1/3 cup of coconut oil
½ ounce of beeswax
3/4 cup of almond oil
Up to 1½ teaspoons of essential oil of your choice or more to prolong scent ( I would use 1 drop of Jasmine Essential oil )
Place aloe vera gel, lanolin and vitamin E oil in a blender or food processor. Place coconut oil and beeswax in a 2 cup Pyrex bowl, microwave on high for 30 seconds and stir. Repeat in 10 second blocks until fully melted.

Stir in almond oil, reheating if necessary. Run blender at low to medium speed, then pour in melted oils in a thin stream. As the oils are blended the cream will turn white. As soon as you have a mayonnaise-like consistency, stop motor, add essential oils and pulse blend do not over blend . Transfer cream to glass jars while still warm because it thickens quickly.

Lemon Face Splash
A quick and easy day to day toner that keeps the grease build up down and yet stops skin drying out. This is my own little formula quick and easy to make, great to give as gifts. Buy some witch-hazel from your local chemist remove the label and re-label with a home made colourful label. Add to the content of the bottle 5 drops of sweet almond oil and 2 drops of lemon essential oil (note the bottle of witch-hazel should be 100mls.) Shake well. This can be used every day after washing and should be applied with "soaked" cotton wool balls and patted dry.

Sun Wrap
Not everyone that gets a sunburned back (and other hard to reach spots) has a friend to rub in the after sun. This easy idea will help those that are in need of extra hands. You first need to buy some lengths of light white cotton (these can be bought from haberdashery stores as off cuts.) They need to be about 12 square inches.

You will need a container like a "Wet-Ones baby wipes box"

Aloe vera gel 25mls
sweet almond oil 10mls
200ml of rosewater and glycerine
Take the squares of cotton (you can actually use the baby wipes) wet them in some warm tap water.

Mix the aloe vera gel, sweet almond oil and rosewater and glycerine in a bowl and place the damp cotton strips into the mix and let them rest for about an hour in the fridge. Transfer the liquid content of the bowl to your container and lay the cotton strips folded into it. Cover the top of the container with cling wrap or foil and close the lid tightly. These treated cotton pieces can then be laid upon sun burned areas of the skin to soothe painful burns. You can also use the strips for bruised skin if you and 5 drops of Lavender essential oil and 5 drops of Juniper essential oils to the liquid when at the mixing stage.

Hand & Foot Care

Lavender and Geranium hand cream
A quick and easy way of making a great hand-cream with no mess. From you health store or local pharmacy buy some plain unscented moisturising cream a 200ml bottle is fine. Also buy some small pots - plastic is fine. These pots need to have nice tight fitting lids.

Add to the cream 5 drops of lavender essential oil and 5 drops of Geranium essential oil (rose Geranium is fine) spoon the mix into the small pots and label with your own personal colourful tag.

Hand Barrier Cream
What you will need:

¼ cup warmed coconut oil
½ cup sweet almond or jojoba oil
½ tablespoon cocoa butter
5 drops of Geranium Essential oil
Mix ingredients in a small jar in a small pan of water. Heat until the cocoa butter melts. Remove from heat. Let the mixture cool slightly, then beat with a whisk vigorously. Cool for longer then whisk until the mix turns creamy.

If the mix hardens, soften in a shallow pan of hot water for about 10 minutes. This mix is good for about one month and is great for keeping hands from chapping or drying out.

Foot Lotion
What you will need:

¼ cup apricot kernel oil
1 tsp. beeswax
1 tsp cocoa butter
1 tsp. coconut oil
¼ cup distilled water
1 tsp Aloe Vera gel
½ tsp glycerine
5 drops Juniper essential oil
2 drops of peppermint Essential Oil
Melt the butter, blend in the oil over low heat then allow to cool. Measure the water, aloe vera gel and glycerine into a deep bowl. Slowly drizzle in a small amount of the oil mixture and beat vigorously with a wire whisk. Continue to drizzle and beat until all the oil is blended into the water. Stir in five drops of Juniper essential oil and 2 drops of peppermint oil. Pour into a container. This foot lotion is a great way to relax tired feet and help with foot odour and it can also help to keep foot infections down.

You can also use one drop of peppermint to three drops of Juniper and 5mls of sweet almond oil in a footbath. This improves circulation and keeps the feet fresh.

Hand & Foot - Knee & Elbow Cream
What you will need:

1 ounce jojoba or sweet almond oil
120ml pure vegetable shortening
5 drops tincture of benzoin
5 drops of Rose or Rose Geranium essential oil
Warm the oil and shortening in a jar in a small pan of water, until completely melted . Remove from heat and stir in the tincture of benzoin and essential oil. Allow to cool, then whisk until completely cool, and creamy. Product performs best if used within 30 days - otherwise, refrigerate.
