Students burn Latina author's book after she discusses white privilege

Jennine Capó Crucet was discussing My Time Among the Whites

Georgia Southern University ‘not planning any actions’

Oct 13, 2019

When a Latina author discussed white privilege at a public university in Georgia, a group of white students burned copies of her book.

A video of the book-burning went viral, prompting condemnation by PEN America, an advocacy group that promotes free expression.

Good to see someone in (((college))) fighting back against the insanity.

But what a bunch of hypocrites these people are. Burning books is just as much free expression as burning the American flag.

If you own a book you have a right to burn it or do whatever you want with it.
I am glad the students protested this white privilege crap that is shoved down their throats all the time. I doubt that anything worthwhile was lost here.

The college where this happened, Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA, has some good history, one bit I'll post below:

Quote:
The university finally integrated its student body in 1965,[12] eleven years after the United States Supreme Court's ruling in Brown v. Board of Education (1954). College President Marvin Pittman had been fired in 1941 by Georgia governor Eugene Talmadge for supporting racial integration; he was eventually rehired.

When I was living in Georgia, Statesboro was one of the counties below "the Macon line," Macon being a city in central Georgia. Macon and the cities and counties around it were quite segregationist. Below the "Macon line" niggers knew what not to do for many years, otherwise, they'd be "taught."

Now, if the book burning had happened at the University of Georgia in Athens, every alphabet soup agency would be "investigating possible hate crimes" or at least who set "unauthorized fires."

The First Amendment exists to protect unpopular speech. Popular speech doesn't need protecting.

"A video of the book-burning went viral, prompting condemnation by PEN America, an advocacy group that promotes free expression.

The school did not condemn the book burning. In a statement, Georgia Southern University said its students have a right to burn books if they choose, but said book burning does not “encourage the civil discourse and debate of ideas”.

A university spokeswoman said the school was “not planning any actions against any of the students involved in this incident”.

In a letter to students and faculty, the university president, Kyle Marrero, said: “While it’s within the students’ first amendment rights, book burning does not align with Georgia Southern’s values.”
