Raised bed 2: Some real sensibility here as he quotes: " you can tell a mans experience in the bush by how well he sleeps at night."
You can go a day or two on two hours sleep, but sooner than later it will add up to mistakes and liability to yourself and others.

Always have a deep channel/trench around your shelter, to reduce insects/divert rain, and if you have a tent, pile the soil against the tent around the sides, so it prevents entry into the tent under the sides by insects. Spiders especially can be lethal. If you have time/aren't injured, try to build a boma around you, to stop larger animals just attacking. Edges of the groundsheet should be turned up inside and against the tent sides, so insects etc getting under the tent side, find themselves moving under the groundsheet, rather than on top of it and heading straight for you.

If injured, or out for a short period e.g overnight, just wrap yourself up, make a type of raised chair/comfortable place to sit/nap/think. Raised soil and stones if nothing else can do fine for a while, but don't use your hands to gather them together, things live under the surface of sand, and stones. Think in phases. You don't have to have a perfect camp, just cover all the basics first as rapidly as possible, then go around again through them all and improve. Thinking about what you are going to do, planning, is essential. Chairs get uncomfortable after a while, which is good, in hostile environments you don't want to sleep too deeply at night, if injured, cold you may not wake up. It's coldest 2 to 5 am, be awake at that time, it will reduce chance of sickness. Lying down puts your head and lungs into the coldest portion of air, sitting up/reclining keeps your head and lungs a little bit warmer, and if you have minimal clothing, head, neck and tops of lungs need to be kept warmest, and then extremities e.g hands.

Chairs are also very small, can be covered and are easier to waterproof/turn into an immediate shelter/you may not be able to get a lot of material together, often a survival situation starts at night, when you can't see much, and you need to survive till dawn.
Once you have an immediate tiny shelter, you can then at your leisure build a larger shelter, or just one or two more small shelters, and join them together, one for you, one for your kit. The sub-forum is not just for emergencies, but to enjoy life outdoors, but in survival situations, there is an assumption in most survival courses/videos you are healthy and uninjured, which is unlikely.Small, quick easy things you could do to cover all the basics, and then expand upon, build out are best.Whatever, you plan to do, it should be able to be done if an arm or leg, or more, were injured/cut/pierced etc. Healthcare, and emergency medical planning e.g breaking your ankle, need to be constantly top of mind.

Keep everything up off the ground, including your feet to reduce visitors crawling up and into your clothing, bedding.
Hanging things in trees is useful, but dangerous, as insects enter them, and aren't you in for a surprise when you put your hand inside your bag. Keep food far away from where you sleep, and eat away from where you sleep, keep the rest close by.
If you mostly sleep/nap during midday, you can use stones etc that at night would have frozen you, to make yourself comfortable.
Stay awake at night, especially the cold periods at dawn, and hunting time dawn and dusk, and sleep midday.
Napping, rather than sleeping, will do fine for a short period of a day or two, and let you read and experience the terrain around you the first night, so you can assess what it would be like if you had been sleeping. If safe the first night, then its likely to be safe going forward, and then you can sleep easy.
Trees are insect highways, and many things live among their roots. Stay away from the trunk and the tips/ends of the branches, and away from trees in general if you can. Ropes tied to trunks can be highways right to you, put something around them facing towards the tree or a large knot with some cord hanging down, so the insects are diverted down onto the hanging cord, so any insects travelling along the ropes towards you, are turned back/diverted. Insects and snakes are a far greater threat than wild beasts, which avoid fire, insects are attracted to fire.

A primary bush skill for a short period of time say a day or two, is to learn to sleep reclining, sitting.
It may rain, and you may find your digging a hole for a shelter was not such a good idea, it may be better to use the soil to build a bed and wall around it, the plow point shelter would be best, but nevertheless, as many ideas as possible make us as versatile as we can be, and often things can be adapted, one may be in mountainous terrain where there is no flat ground, or more likely badly injured and unable to move much.
