Patrick Magee, the Brighton bomber, regrets his attack, which killed five people, but stands by his actions, he tells The Times today . The IRA terrorist, who will speak at the Commons tomorrow about forgiveness with the daughter of one of his victims, says the attack was the only way available at the time to advance his cause.

He tells The Times: “It is perfectly possible to regret something deeply, every day of your life, and yet still stand over your actions.

“It is about legitimacy and who is allowed to use force. If everything is examined through the prism of legitimacy you can break it down to different gradations. Why should it just be the prerogative of those in power?”
