Default Freedom Party of Austria/Freiheitliche Partei Österreichs(FPÖ)

Quote:
Beneath a leaden sky the solemn, black-clad crowd moves slowly towards a modest grey headstone. At one end
of the grave, a flame casts light on the black lettering that is engraved on the marble. At the other end, an elderly soldier bends down to place flowers before standing to salute.

From all over Austria, people are here to pay their respects to their fallen hero. But the solemnity of the occasion is cut with tension. Beyond the crowd of about 300, armed police are in attendance. They keep a respectful distance but the rasping bark of Alsatians hidden in vans provides an eerie soundtrack as the crowd congregates in mist and light rain.

Opinion polls used to place the FPÖ in first place with around 30% of votes, now they are third with 20%. Jews do like to play with numbers . Elections will take place end of September.

Heinz-Christian Strache, leader of the Austrian Freedom Party, and supporter of Israel, is embarrassed by an anti-Semitic cartoon on his facebook account

The leader of Austria's far-right Freedom Party (FPOe), Heinz-Christian Strache, came under fire after posting an anti-Semitic cartoon on his facebook account on August 19, 2012.

...

Strache did not defend his right to use the cartoon but reacted by posting a second version almost immediately after the first was criticized. The Star of David emblems were removed from the banker's cufflinks and the shape of his nose was changed.

...

Strache responded to the criticism with a further comment on Facebook saying he did not tolerate anti-Semitism and insisted that he was highlighting his contempt for "the caste of greedy bankers."

...

Israel Deputy Minister Ayoob Kara described the Freedom Party of Strache as the only one in Austria that supported Israel following the Gaza flotilla incident and that condemned calls for a boycott of Israel, "while the socialist parties proposed a general boycott of Israel."

"Does this mean that this is a Nazi party?" he asked rhetorically. "Its platform says that it is based on the Judea-Christian heritage - is that a Nazi party?"

...

The struggle against Islamization has clearly brought Heinz-Christian Strache to a positive understanding of the State of Israel. The cartoon was probably a glitch in his efforts to build a strong link with Israel.

Default Austria Freedom Party Election Poster 'Love Your Neighbor' Draws Criticism From Church Officials

Quote:
VIENNA -- A prominent Austrian Protestant official is criticizing the anti-immigration Freedom Party for suggesting brotherly love should be restricted to Austrians.

Ahead of Sept. 29 elections, party posters show its leader, Heinz-Christian Strache, affectionately gazing at an elderly woman who is stroking his cheek. The poster proclaims: "Love your neighbor. For me, those are our Austrians."

Strache following Jobbik's shining example

Rather strange considering that he and the FPO, unlike Jobbik, are very much pro Serb.

I guess he wants to be seen as politically/semiticly correct when talking about America/Israel's NATO base hosting lapdog in the sunni muslim world.

The two governing parties SPÖ and ÖVP have reached their worst results ever. Nevertheless, nothing will change in Austria.

- With 26.6% of the votes, SPÖ still ranks first. In total, SPÖ lost about 2.3 percentage points.
- The conservative coalition partner ÖVP reached 24.0% of the votes, which is also the worst result in the party's history.
- ÖVP is followed by the opposition leader FPÖ, which placed third with 20.7% of the votes (+3.2%). FPÖ's party leader Heinz-Christian Strache called Chancellor Werner Faymann to stop the exclusion of FPÖ.
- The second-biggest opposition party, the Green party still ranks fourth. With a total of 12.2% of the votes, the party reached a gain of 1.8%.
- BZÖ is the clear loser of the elections. The party lost 7.1 percentage points and came at 3.6%. As a result, BZÖ did not achieve a return to the Austrian Parliament.
- “Team Stronach”, which is founded and led by the Austro-Canadian industrialist Frank Stronach, reached 5.8% of the votes.
- With 5.2% of the votes, the liberal party “NEOS” achieved an unexpectedly high result.

Among males aged between 16 and 40 and blue-collar workers, FPÖ is the clear leader.
Note: those are not yet the final results...

Default Rise of Austria's Far-Right Seen Through Eyes of Lone Jewish Lawmaker

Quote:
VIENNA — It is hard to imagine finding a line from the Talmud at the post-election celebration of Austria’s populist, far-right Freedom Party.

The scene, in a tent on the glittering Ringstrasse right next to Vienna’s City Hall, was smoke-filled and dimly lit. The overwhelmingly male crowd sat at long rows of wooden tables and benches, drinking beer from plastic cups. Some faces had slashes, marks left from fencing matches held by controversial party-affiliated fraternities to which many of them belong.

Kosovo is not Turkey, Erdogan will fail with new Ottoman Empire – Heinz-Christian Strache

Source: Telegraf, Tanjug

Turkey is not Kosovo, Kosovo is not Turkey, said the leader of the Freedom Party of Austria (FPO) Heinz-Christian Strache regarding the statement by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“His territorial pretensions in Europe are a step away from the restoration of the Ottoman Empire that [Recep Tayyip] Erdogan wants, ” he stressed in a statement.

Turkey, Strache recalled, is not part of Europe and only one, most minimal part in southeast belongs to Turkey.

“We fought for this several centuries ago, and it will always remain like this. At first Erdogan undermined European societies with a mass of its citizens, who he calls ”his soldiers”, and now he openly expresses territorial pretensions in a sovereign European country – Serbia. This is absolutely unacceptable,” pointed out Strache.

According to him, all Europe must rise against the imperialist ambitions of Turkish Prime Minister.

“We are strong enough. We are not the ones who need Turkey, Turkey needs us. After the final breakup of the [EU] accession negotiations, we should send a clear signal to Turkey by stopping aid currently amounting to hundreds of millions [of Euros] to Erdogan’s regime,” said Heinz-Christian Strache, adding that only after that Erdogan should see where his place is.

Austria's far-right 'courting' Russia

Published: 25 Nov 2014 13:58 GMT+01:00

The leader of Austria’s right-wing Freedom Party (FPÖ), Heinz-Christian Strache, is in Moscow for a discussion on “overcoming the crisis in Europe”.

This comes amid speculation as to whether the FPÖ might have received financial support from Russia, after a Moscow strategy paper seen by German media revealed that Russian President Vladimir Putin has been advised to influence Europe through right-wing populist parties including Alternativ für Deutschland (AfD).

The round-table discussion is being chaired by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Strache is accompanied by the chairman of the Vienna FPÖ Johann Gudenus, the party’s foreign policy spokesman Johannes Hübner, and science spokesman Andreas Karlsböck. In a press statement the FPÖ said that the meeting was being attended by politicians, scientists and experts from across Europe.

After France’s far-right National Front party admitted to securing a €9 million Russian bank loan in what appears to be a Kremlin bet on the future of French politics, Austrian newspapers speculated as to whether the FPÖ might also have benefited financially from its open support for Putin. Gudenus immediately denied this.

The national manager for the social democrats, Norbert Darabos, said that he found "the extent to which the FPÖ has recently courted Russia very striking". He called on Strache to speak out, rather than relying on Gudenus, and explain the nature of the “strategic friendship”.

On Tuesday Strache released a statement from Moscow saying "we are confident of our neutrality and do not receive any financial contributions". He added that he was keen to know if the SPÖ was getting any money from the US for its anti-Russian, pro-Nato position

Austria election: Far-right tops first round of presidential vote

Austria's far-right Freedom Party candidate has come top in the first round of presidential elections, preliminary results show.

Norbert Hofer has about 36% of the votes for the mostly ceremonial role - not enough to avoid a run-off in May.

He is likely to face Alexander Van der Bellen, an independent contender backed by the Greens, who is polling 20%.

For the first time since World War Two, the candidates from Austria's two main parties did not make it to the run-off.

Rudolf Hundstorfer from the Social Democrats and the centre-right People's Party Andreas Khol are each thought to have taken about 11% of the vote.

Both parties have governed Austria for decades - either alone or in coalition.
This is a big shake-up in Austrian politics, the BBC's Bethany Bell in Vienna reports, as the country has had a president from the centre-left or centre-right since 1945.

The clear victory of the far-right candidate reflects widespread discontent with the status quo, as well as concerns about immigration and the economy, our correspondent says.

Support for the Social Democrats and the People's Party has been falling in recent years.

In the last general elections in 2013, the two parties won just enough votes to govern in a "grand coalition".
