‘A Deserved Flop’: David Alan Grier Couldn’t Save ‘The American Society of Magical Negroes’ from Collective Backlash for Pandering to White Entitlement

The massive backlash that “The American Society of Magical Negroes” trailer received on YouTube was a premonition of what was to come. Made on an estimated budget of $15 million, the film was released in theaters across the United States on March 15. However, it performed so poorly that it had to be pulled from theaters after only three weeks.

The feature debut of actor-turned-writer-director Kobi Libii barely raked in $1 million at the box office on its opening weekend. Starring Justice Smith in the lead role, it reportedly grossed a paltry $5,440 on its final day. In its lifetime run of 21 days, “The American Society of Magical Negroes” earned a dismal $2.4 million.

On a related topic the movie Che alier about the alleged nigger Mozart totally bombed at the box office too. One problem is that people didn't buy the magic nigger dtoryline.

CNN — More than 800 Black actors are denouncing backlash aimed at actor Francesca Amewudah-Rivers, who was cast to play Juliet opposite Tom Holland in an upcoming stage production of “Romeo & Juliet” in London’s West End.

After Amewudah-Rivers’ casting announcement, online backlash was fierce, even prompting the Jamie Lloyd Company – which is behind the theater production – to issue a statement on social media earlier this month, condemning a “barrage of deplorable racial abuse online directed towards a member of our company.”

While the company’s statement did not mention Amewudah-Rivers by name, an open letter in support of Amewaduh-Rivers, who is known for her work in the series “Bad Education,” followed.
