Horst Mahler – last public appearance before returning to prison 19 April 2017

Former lawyer and political activist, Horst Mahler was sentenced to ten years and two months in prison for incitement to racial hatred. He was released after serving seven years because of health problems. A speech given last January in Ludwigshafen caused the authorities to recall Mahler to prison to finish off his sentence. This is possibly the last time he will appear in public. Therefore, his message is both moving and of the utmost importance.

Horst Mahler geht es schlecht. Mich erreichte heute folgende Nachricht:

Horst Mahler is doing badly. Today I received the following message:

Dear ..., I am sending you this message at the request of my husband. Yesterday, I visited my husband on the detention center of the municipal hospital in Brandenburg. He's been there since Wednesday - after a collapse in the cell!

Horst suffers from a necrosis on the foot (big toe).

In addition, there is pneumonia - pretty hard there the inflammation value (CRP value) is 300 - which is very high. A normal value is about 10.
For two days he has been given antibiotics - now it is time to wait and see if the inflammation levels drop.

Mentally, Horst is clear, as always, but very weak. He fears he will not get through this time.

Best regards, Elzbieta Maria Rosa Mahler

Horst Mahler will be released on October 27.

After serving a total sentence of 10 years and 2 months in prison for expressing opinions, the Munich Public Prosecutor's Office proposes a supervision order for a period of five years, which will take effect on October 27, 2020 on the day of parole. 84-year-old lawyer Horst Mahler, subject to the following binding provisions:

- The convicted person is prohibited from publishing texts and other contributions on the Internet or in other media, unless he first informs the Criminal Police Bureau of the State of Brandenburg, Central Department of state security, at least one week before the expected date of publication.

According to the public prosecutor's office, Horst Mahler “has published numerous texts on the Internet in the past which fall under the infringement of § 130 StGB and are therefore already known to like-minded people. It is to be expected that the convicted person will continue to use the Internet as a platform for the publication of his ideas in the future.

These restrictions are necessary to achieve this goal [censorship and violation of the right to be heard]. The convict was unimpressed by the sanctions and retained his previous views and behavior. These measures are justified because of the concrete danger that the convicted person will again spread anti-Semitic ideas. "

In addition, in his press release, Horst Mahler notes several irregularities in the conduct of his trials.

We wish him the best for the future and salute his exemplary determination.
