"Race" attacks spark Indian demonstrations

At least 2,000 Indian students and supporters have rallied in Australia to protest against violent attacks which they say are racially motivated.

In one of the recent attacks in Melbourne, a student was critically injured by a screwdriver.

There have been more than 70 assaults in the past year, with at least four in the past fortnight.

Police have denied any racial motivation, saying the students were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

They have said the crimes were "opportunistic", with Indian students seen as "soft targets".

Indian students tend to travel on their own, late at night - either from study or employment - and carry valuable items such as laptops and phones, Victorian Police deputy commissioner Kieran Walshe said.

But the students and Indian officials have demanded action, including more police at train stations and other problem areas.

The students' union, which organised the march, has also called on the Indian government to declare Australia an unsafe destination for Indian students if the attacks continue.

There are thought to be about 90,000 Indian students studying at Australian universities.

Australians protest over racial violence

Thousands of demonstrators protesting over violence against Indian students filled streets in Australia's second largest city, Melbourne, today, as the foreign minister said the government was doing everything it could to solve the crime problem.

The demonstration by predominantly ethnic Indian men came after the Indian and Australian governments held top-level discussions about the safety of more than 90,000 Indians studying in Australian universities.

I saw the CCTV tape of the particulary vicious and cowardly attack on the Indian a week ago that led to this demonstration.
The perps looked like Lebs to me. They most certainly were not white.

And look at the difference in the coverage of the Cronulla 'riots' and this 'peaceful demonstration.'

They must think we're fucking stupid not to see the obvious media bias.

Especially when the screen is filled with dirty, ugly, beady-eyed hateful shitskIndians shouting & yelling, looking like something out of camp of the saints.

A rally in Sydney's west over an attack on an Indian student last night has died down, with about 50 students remaining.

Police say one Indian man was assaulted, sparking the protest, and three Lebanese men were attacked later as an act of retaliation.

Protesters are also demanding that police release a man they say was arrested for intervening in the initial attack.

One protester told the ABC that the incident is only the latest of many.

Fresh attack on students in Harris Park, two assailants nabbed

Nearly two hundred Indian students gathered at the main circle in the heart of Harris Park, Parramatta in Sydney to protest against beating up few students and two of them being kidnapped by about 15 allegedly Lebanese youth in two vehicles at about 2100 hrs. on Monday.
Police arrested two of the fleeing Lebanese youth and also two Indian students who were fighting their assailants.

The youth first started pelting eggs on passing Indian boys and girls and police was called who assured the gathered crowd that there will be not incident after this.
Even as the police was still there, the youth came out of their 4 WD and starting bashing up the students with baseball bats and beer bottles. The police nabbed two of the fleeing youths. The youths while fleeing dragged two Indian boys into their cars. Some Indian boys ran after the car and the police nabbed two of them as well.

The agitated crowd demanded release of the Indian students and constant police [resence in the area mainly inhabited by the Indian community. at the time of filing this report at 0115 hrs most of the students had dispersed following the assurance by Federation of Indian students in Australia leaders and community leaders, including Dr. Yadu Singh and the police that the boys will be released immediately. The community leaders offered the police to accompany them to the police station. However, still some 50 students were still present at the scene. The police refused to speak to media till the crowd dispersed.

I take it that Aussie cops wouldn't have that much to do if there were no lebs and red dots in the country.
