Default Mark Dimondstein, the American Postal Workers Union and Donald Trump

Mark Dimondstein, the American Postal Workers Union and Donald Trump

The American Postal Workers Union (hereafter APWU) is the world’s largest postal union (1) and currently represents circa 240,000 members in the United States. (2) The interesting thing about it is that after a period of politically centrist leaders; the APWU has acquired a left-wing fanatic as its president.

That president is one Mark Dimondstein. (3)

Dimondstein is currently campaigning for what he calls a ‘people’s post office’, which in effect means he wants to create a publicly-owned monopoly. (4) In aid of this he has rather dramatically ‘declared war’ on the Staples Company, which is a major competitor to such an institution and barrier to the creation of said monopoly. (5)

Naturally this is being spun as Dimondstein standing up to ‘special corporate interests’. (6) Yet he has been consistently pro-illegal immigration, which has caused an epidemic of job losses for American citizens (i.e. who unions should naturally side with to protect job losses). (7)

For example during his tenure the APWU has been putting out articles written from a strident politically left wing point of view, which also condemn anti-immigrant sentiment. In addition to repeatedly publishing gushing praise of the Black Lives Matter terrorist group in official APWU circulars. (8)

In another more recent case Dimondstein has issued a letter to the APWU’s membership stating that, in effect, Donald Trump is their enemy because he spoke about rumours that American postal workers had deliberately destroyed postal ballots in strongly Republican voting districts. (9)

Dimondstein should, if he was doing his job properly and without personal prejudice, support Trump as the only candidate who has been consistently and strongly opposed to illegal immigration and would thus ensure that APWU members would not competing against cheaper illegal immigrant labour. In addition to Trump’s opposition to the free trade mania of the political establishment, which one again would ensure that American jobs are safeguarded against profit-driven outsourcing to countries with much lower wage costs.

This position is even odder when we note that Dimondstein previously backed Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders’ not dissimilar political platform (i.e. American jobs for American workers). (10)
So why would Dimondstein support the policies of Bernie Sanders’ campaign, but not the similar policies of Donald Trump?

The key to answering that lies in an interview that Dimondstein gave to the Boise Weekly where he stated:

‘My mother and father were active-minded, progressive people. It was always part of the fabric of our family. I'm Jewish, so we had an anti-fascist thrust about our whole family.’ (11)

In other words Dimondstein – despite being a secular socialist – has a strong attachment to his jewish origins (he also works closely with the Jewish Labor Committee (12) and has devoted much time to praising Israel’s postal service), (13) which in turn means that he views fellow jewish socialist Bernie Sanders’ policies with favour, but yet views similar policies promoted by Donald Trump – who has been repeatedly labelled a ‘fascist’ and an ‘anti-Semite’ by his enemies on the political left and right – (14) with disfavour.

Since what we are really looking at here are decisions made on the basis of jewish ethnic politics not what is actually in the interests of the members of the APWU. If those interests were considered objectively then Dimondstein wouldn’t have supported anti-free trade candidacy of Bernie Sanders, but then suddenly switched to, in effect, supporting pro-free trade and pro-mass immigration candidacy of Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump’s strong anti-free trade policy positions.

There simply is no other coherent explanation; Dimondstein’s opposition to Donald Trump is not based on the interests of the working people of America, but rather those of his fellow jews.
