Comet or Asteroid-it's a Unique Binary Asteroid
NASA finds an object similar to both a comet and an asteroid, via Hubble.
http://www.ctvnews.ca/video?playlistId=1.3604084 It turns out it is a binary asteroid, which has unique features that can help us learn about the early solar system, and how water came to Earth. "..The fact that 2006 VW139/288P is so different from all other known binary asteroids raises some questions about how common such systems are in the asteroid belt. “We need more theoretical and observational work, as well as more objects similar to this object, to find an answer to this question,” concluded Agarwal.." A paper is coming out this week in 'Nature' re this discovery. https://astronomynow.com/2017/09/22/...t-is-a-binary/

The New Horizons probe which flew past Pluto in July 2015 should get a good look at a similar object. On Jan. 1, 2019 the probe will fly within 2,200 miles of 2014 MU69, a Kuiper Belt Object (KBO) 4 billion miles away from Earth and a billion miles past Pluto. Astronomers think 2014 MU69 is a similar type of binary asteroid fused together or two smaller objects orbiting each other.
