Best Buy is committing consumer fraud!
Recently, my computer has been malfunctioning. I was told by the experts at Best Buy that my computer required a fan. On September 19, 2008 at about 2:30pm I purchased a 16" oscillating fan with three speeds from K-Mart. I brought the fan home, plugged it in, placed it in close proximity to my computer and turned it on. The fan is on the number three setting and is locked in place so that it will no longer oscillate. This does not seem to be helping at all and has, in fact, complicated matters. It is now impossible to keep all my precious documents organized due to the excessive wind caused by the fan.
It is my belief that the computer scientists at Best Buy are lying to American Consumers and encouraging them to buy useless fans in order to prop up the lagging fan industry! |

LOL, I kind of figured, but there are people that ignorant out there, regarding computers. You just never know. I had a friend that had her computer for two years when she calls me up one day to ask me how to save a file to her 3 1/2" disk.

I made an assload of money because of the Best Buy/drooling computer idiot syndrome. Best Buy would sell off these gagtastic HP Pavilians, folks would screw them up or there would be proprietary hardware failures, and I would get the calls through word of mouth. Mainly because if you walked into any given BB and looked at their repair center, it was full wall to wall with those damn machines. I think I know the HP Pav better than anyone now, I would never buy one, and now am glad I don't see them too much anymore.
Those, with eMachines running a very close second, were true pieces of junk pushed on the ignorant masses. I have one in my collection that I laugh at from time to time. It even has AOL on it. |

Maybe you should import a Chinaman and have him use one of those handheld fans.

I had a Toshiba Qosmio whose secondary fan started making ugly noises, so I ordered a fan, it didn’t fit, I guess Toshiba made 500 different configurations of G20, so after it turned out that the third god damned fan had three cables instead of the four, I decided to butcher the damn thing to see what is in there, well it turned out that all that holds the fan in place is the magnetic force of the motor, so I sprayed some WD40 on the fan axle and put the whole thing together again and that totally fixed the noise problem. Some kind of grease is probably better than WD40, who knows what that stuff can do to electronic components.

Not true, it is not just a rust solvent, it also lubricates and protects against corrosion.

Water Dispersant No. 40 It displaces moisture and then evaporates away from electronic equipment. Thats what it was invented for. It is basically Dry Cleaning fluid that they use to clean clothes--> White spirit/Stoddard solvent. |

Known as "the can with thousands of uses," WD-40® protects metal from rust and corrosion, penetrates stuck parts, displaces moisture, and lubricates just about anything. WD-40 is also great when it comes to cleaning grease, grime, and other marks from most surfaces. http://www.wd40.com/ It depends on your application, obviously. btw: what is better for household/general purpose lube, WD-40 or Silicon Spray?

As to corrosion resistance ,WD40 isn't the best, but it works fine.I always use it in the reels I use for saltwater fishing.Furthermore I spray it over my lures because it makes a great fish attractant.I can honestly report that whatever hooks and lures I spray with WD40 last at least three or four times as long as the ones I don't.

Well since WD40 is a solvent and not a lubricant, silicone would be better than WD40. At walmart and autoparts stores they sell Marvel Mystery Oil along side WD40, now that is an oil not a solvent (anti-lubricant) like WD40. All WD40 is, is 95% Dry Cleaning fluid with a little bit of other stuff added. |

Do you have any idea why fish would like that stuff?

Anything that masks human scents (like sweat)....we have oils on our hands that fish shy away from. Me, I prefer to use garlic scented plastics. Bass seem to like it.

I have no real idea, but I think it chemically triggers some kind of automatic feeding response.I notice that some fish with an extremely acute sense of smell, like salmon, halibut and sturgeon, are extremely attracted to WD40,whereas others aren't quite as exited about it.
Nigger fishing with bait works best with bottom fish like cod, sole, cabezon and whatnot, but I've found that on those days when I haven't any bait, squirting some WD40 on the hook does help a bit.

A troll starts a thread about buying an oscillating fan due to some computer cooling advice he got at Best Buy, and it somehow morphs into fishing tips regarding WD-40.
I sense a Wired Magazine article in the offing. |
