Default Hug the thug

May 13, 2016

NEW YORK — A man offering free hugs in Times Square is due in court Friday for allegedly attacking a tourist when she didn’t give him a tip.

Jermaine Himmelstein, known as the “free hugs” guy, is often seen toting a cardboard sign around Times Square offering free hugs.

But on Thursday afternoon, police said Himmelstein jumped into a picture 22-year-old Canadian tourist Sophie Violene Dauvois was taking, hugged her and then demanded $5.

Police said he then attacked her when she wouldn’t hand over the cash, punching her in the face.......

Default Conviction of convicted killer upheld by Oklahoma court

May 14th 2016

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals has upheld the murder conviction of a Garvin County man.

The court on Friday rejected appeals by 45-year-old Martin High of Wynnewood in the beating death of another Wynnewood man.

High was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life without parole in the September 2011 beating death of 84-year-old Glen Woods Brownlee during a break-in at Brownlee's home.

The court rejected High's argument that a 911 call from a man in a separate break-in should not have been allowed to be played during his trial.

Prosecutors say evidence collected from the separate break-in led investigators to High and to the discovery of evidence that implicated High in the death of Brownlee.

Default Savannah man, 27, sentenced to two life terms in ‘execution’ killing of Thunderbolt couple

May 13, 2016

Michael Donnta Jones was sentenced to two consecutive life prison terms without the possibility of parole on Friday for his convictions in the 2013 “execution” slayings of a Thunderbolt couple — a killing he bragged about to more than a half dozen friends and colleagues.

Chatham County Superior Court Judge Penny Haas Freesemann noticed the absence of remorse or indication Jones would act differently if released and imposed the maximum sentence available.

A jury found Jones, 27, guilty on April 25 of on malice murder counts in the kllings of Forrest Ison, 27-year-old executive chef at the Brasserie 529 restaurant, and his girlfriend, Alice Stevens, 24, a hostess/waitress there. The couple were gunned down Nov. 3, 2013, by two men in the carport of their home at 3134 Roberson Ave........

05/13 2016

MARTINSBURG, Wv. - "When they arrived on the scene they found an elderly female had been robbed at knife point in her house," said Lieutenant Brendan Hall with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office.

Although the woman wasn't harmed, police say the suspect did take her debit card and attempted to use it.

The victim described the suspect as a thin built black male, about 40 to 50 years old.....
