Federal Government announces $6m for Perth Holocaust museum
December 17th, 2019 THE Federal Government will spend $6 million to create a Perth Jewish precinct including a Holocaust museum. Federal Finance Minister Mathias Cormann and Stirling MHR Vince Connelly today announced a $6 million grant for redevelopment of the Jewish Community Centre in Yokine. In a statement, Mr Cormann said $300,000 was previously committed ahead of the Federal Election for repairs and renovations but “it was clear that the centre needed a once-in-a-generation redevelopment”. “Since then we have been engaging with the community to develop a proposal, and this vision will now become a reality,” he said. The existing facility on Woodrow Avenue comprises office space for community groups, an open space for social activities, facilities for meetings and seminars, as well as the Holocaust Institute of WA. The Government’s plan is to create “an iconic Western Australian community facility” with a Perth Holocaust Museum and William Cooper Memorial as its centrepiece. It would also incorporate a community day care facility and multi-purpose community centre. https://www.communitynews.com.au/sti...locaust-museum |
