A man convicted in a 2008 slaying in Minneapolis was arrested Tuesday in connection with an Omaha shooting in October in which a woman was killed and her fiancé was wounded.

Police said Tyeric L. Lessley, 31, fatally shot Suzanne M. Pope at a house near 39th Street and Kansas Avenue. Lessley also shot Pope’s fiancé, Curtis R. Goodwin, police said. He survived.

In March 2008, Lessley, then 22, was riding with friends in a car in downtown Minneapolis when it collided with a pickup, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported, citing an account from Minneapolis police. Darby K. Claar and his friends were inside the pickup.

An argument erupted, and Lessley fatally shot Claar, 32.

LINCOLN, Neb.- A jury in Lancaster County has convicted an Omaha man of murder. Anthony Lamont Wells, 34, has been found guilty of the death of Joshua Hartwig, 25.

The shooting followed an earlier disturbance at the complex. A man and woman had been arguing. The man left the scene but later returned and fired into a crowd of people.......

RALEIGH — Police say a 28-year-old man charged in the shooting deaths of a young couple last month at a Raleigh hotel used his smart phone after the shootings to search the Internet to see what kind of punishment he might face if he was arrested.

Investigators say Seaga Gillard of Wake Forest did a Google search on his phone to look up the penalties for “double homicide” and “fetal homicide,” according to a search warrant made public late last week.

April Lynn Holland, the 22-year-old woman who was shot at the America’s Best Value Inn near Crabtree Valley Mall, was four months pregnant. She and Dwayne Garvey, 28, were killed on the second floor before dawn on Dec. 2.

The next day, police charged Gillard and Brandon Xavier Hill, 29, with first-degree murder. Police say Hill shot Garvey, and Gillard shot Holland. They remain in the Wake County Jail without bond, and could face the death penalty or life in prison without parole if they are convicted of first-degree murder.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The trial of a Youngstown man charged in the stabbing death of a former Homeworth, Ohio woman is set to begin on Tuesday.

51-year-old David Hackett will stand trial in the murder of 30-year-old Collena Lynn Carpenter.

Investigators say that Carpenter had been stabbed 79 times before her body was found in a vacant lot along West Avenue in Youngstown back in October of 2013.

Carpenter had been staying with Hackett and his fiancee in Youngstown and at the time Carpenter's death, Hackett was out on parole from a life sentence for a previous murder.

In 2009, Hackett was paroled from the Lorain Correctional Institution, where he had been serving a life term for a 1979 robbery and murder of a store owner.

BOSSIER CITY, LA -The suspect arrested in the 2014 double murder of two Bossier City women is expected to appear in court Tuesday for a status hearing.

Brandon Butler, 28 was indicted by a Bossier Parish grand jury on July 7, 2014 on 2-counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of 26-year-old Karyl Cox and 24-year-old Jacqueline Beadle.

According to court records, The women were found shot to death inside their Bragg Street home on Mother's Day, May 11, 2014.

NEW LONDON - A little more than five years after 26-year-old Norwich mother Jaclyn Wirth was shot and killed, a jury will begin hearing evidence against her accused murderer.

Lashawn Cecil, 36, of Taftville, goes on trial starting Wednesday in New London Superior Court. The trial is expected to last two to three weeks and end by the first week in February.

A Ouachita Parish jury convicted a man of second-degree murder in a 2015 Monroe shooting.

Robert Earl Bass Jr. shot Brandon Allbritton around 10 p.m. Nov. 11, 2015 in the 800 block of Filhoil Street. Investigation revealed that two white men reportedly drove to an alley off the street to purchase methamphetamine from Bass. He produced a handgun during the encounter, and the passenger in the vehicle was struck by gunfire. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he died.

A Coon Rapids man was charged with third-degree murder Thursday for providing heroin that led to fatal overdose.

The Hennepin County Attorney's Office says 30-year-old Jaquan Peoples sold the controlled substance in the overdose of 37-year-old Phillip Moore.

Officers were called to 41st and Regent Avenues North in Robbinsdale on Sept. 25, 2016 on a report of a man down. They found two adults in distress. One person was revived at the scene while Moore died at the hospital. ....

A jury convicted Taikwan Crosby of second degree murder with a weapon after close to eight hours of deliberation Thursday.

Crosby was on trial for the brutal death of a senior citizen who offered a then-homeless Crosby a place to sleep for the night in 2013. The victim, James Faucett, 60, was beaten, bludgeoned and stabbed in his Wisteria Avenue home in the hours after meeting the defendant.

Neither the state nor the defense denied that Crosby killed Faucett, but Crosby claimed he attacked Faucett in self defense after the older man attempted a sexual advance on the younger man.....

EDMOND, Oklahoma - Police say they have arrested a suspect believed to be connected to the deadly shooting at an Edmond fast food restaurant, Tuesday night.

The suspect has been identified as 33-year-old Anthony Adams Millan. Officers arrested Millan just before 1 p.m.

Police say 23 -year-old Christian Chancey was shot and killed in the parking lot of the Braum's store located on I-35 and E. 15th St. Investigators believe there was an argument, shots were fired and Millan took off.

The woman who was badly injured when a car driven by a drugged driver slammed into her at a Long Island gas station has died, authorities said.

Rosalie Koenig passed away Sunday at Stony Brook University Hospital, according to Suffolk County police.

Koenig, 62, was refueling at a Mobil station on William Floyd Parkway in Shirley when the out-of-control vehicle slammed into the gas pump she was using and pinned her against her car around 11:25 a.m. Saturday.

Renee McKinney was high on drugs when she lost control of her car while trying to make a right turn into the gas station, police said

A scheduling hearing for three teens charged in the shooting death of a University of Arkansas at Fort Smith student last January was held Friday at the Sebastian County Circuit Court with a motion to request the next hearing be not open to the public.

A juvenile transfer hearing for three first-degree murder defendants - Shakur Sharp, 17; James Sharp, 16; and Deonte Parks, 16 - was set Friday for Feb. 27by Circuit Judge Stephen Tabor. All three have pleaded innocent in connection with the shooting death of 22-year-old Kaleb Watson on Jan. 23, 2016, in Watson's townhouse at 4700 Windsor Drive. Shakur Sharp's insanity plea was denied in September.

The hearing will determine if the teens are to be tried as adults or juveniles. The defendants are currently set to be tried as adults for first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated robbery and kidnapping.....

NEWPORT, RI — Raymond Ramsey, 51, pleaded guilty today in Newport Superior Court to the murder of his girl friend, Yolanda McArdle, 42.

He stabbed her 11 times, according to the statement from Atty. Gen. Peter Kilmartin's office.

TOLEDO, OH - Family and friends of Jennifer Molnar are closer to having closure after a man was indicted for Jennifer's murder back in 2011.

Robert Mathis II was arrested by US Marshals at the corner of Jackson and N. Huron in downtown Toledo on Friday. Police say he had been their suspect since the beginning of the case.

Toledo Police say Mathis called 911 on June 8, 2011. He told them he found Molnar in the basement of their home next to the hot water heater in water. He said he moved her upstairs in an attempt to revive her. Detectives from the investigation said Molnar suffered blunt force trauma......

BANGOR, Maine — A man convicted of killing his girlfriend and her two children asked for mercy before a judge imposed three life sentences Thursday.

Keith Coleman received the maximum penalty for the slayings of36-year-old Christina Sargent, 10-year-old Duwayne Coke and 8-year-old Destiny Sargent at home in Garland, about 100 miles northeast of Portland. There is no death penalty in Maine.

Police said Coleman told them that he chased down and strangled the children because they'd witnessed their mother's death. The bodies were found Dec. 20, 2014.....

The ex-boyfriend of a Scotlandville woman fatally shot at her home on Jan. 10 has been arrested in her death.

Robert Williams, 25, was booked on a count of principal to second degree murder following his arrest by Baton Rouge police in the shooting of Robyn Hale, a mother of three .

Williams is the father of Hale's two youngest children. She was killed after she answered a knock at her door, police have said.

HUNTINGTON - A trial in the 2013 shooting death of Christopher Carter, allegedly involving $30,000 in stolen heroin, was scheduled for at least the 10th time Wednesday as sides continue to argue over separate trials for two defendants.

Tyerus Brandon Hayes, 33, of Atlanta, and Terry Nicholas Morton, 38, of Detroit, are each charged with murder in Carter's death. They will now go to trial July 31.......
