Oxford grooming gang who plied lonely, friendless 14-year-old girl with drink and drugs before raping her when she was comatose are all jailed for life
•Mohammed Karrar, Bassam Karrar and Anjum Dogar begin life sentences tonight •The Oxford trio groomed the child at parties between 2002 and 2005 •One one occasion they plied her with drink and drugs until she was unconscious and when she woke up she found she had been violently raped and was pregnant •The gang, between 36 and 44, were called 'predatory and callous' in court By Joel Adams For Mailonline Published:19:45, 21 January 2019 | Updated:19:45, 21 January 2019 A gang of three man who groomed and raped a vulnerable schoolgirl in a horrific campaign of child sex abuse have been jailed for life. Mohammed Karrar, Bassam Karrar and Anjum Dogar befriended the 'lonely, friendless' 14-year-old girl and began grooming their victim by taking her to parties and giving her alcohol and drugs before making demands for sexual acts. The victim was so vulnerable - and so deceived that the men were her friends - she felt unable to refuse their demands. She did not recognise their treatment as abusive, as a result of their insidious and long-running grooming campaign. Police said their predatory behaviour in Oxford came to an horrific head when the men put the victim in a state of being comatose, using a cocktail of drugs and drink at a party. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...raped-her.html |

Britain’s deportation disgrace: One’s a convicted paedophile, the other a gangster. Both should have left the UK years ago – but they still here laughing in the face of the law, writes SUE REID
By Sue Reid for the Daily Mail Published: 22:01, 12 April 2019 | Updated: 23:40, 12 April 2019 Tolga Binbuga, is a criminal allowed to stay in Britain because a judge ruled his membership of a North London gang meant he had integrated well into UK society Snacking on a handful of grapes as he emerges into the spring sunshine, the casually dressed man leaves the neat end-of-terrace house, climbs into a silver Mercedes and roars off down the road. This is 29-year-old Turkish-born Tolga Binbuga, a convicted criminal who, as the Mail reported this week, has been allowed to stay in Britain because a judge ruled that his membership of a notorious North London gang meant he was a ‘home-grown criminal’ who had integrated well into UK society. This week, we found him emerging at 2pm from the home he shares with his mother and father after what a family member said was a ‘lie-in’. Binbuga, who came to Britain at the age of nine, but has never applied for British citizenship, has been convicted of robbery, burglary, assault, criminal damage and shoplifting. He has been fighting the Government against his deportation to Turkey for nearly five years — but thanks to a string of successful appeals to immigration tribunals, costing thousands of pounds apiece, he has succeeded in staying. The Binbuga saga is scandalous enough. It is, however, only one in a shocking array of similar cases. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...years-ago.html |

The real angel of the north: The abuse of young girls by Rochdale sex gangs is one of the great scandals of our time. In a shattering new book, the policewoman who revealed the truth breaks her silence – and shames the superiors who betrayed her...
•Former police officer Maggie Oliver worked on Rochdale sex abuse investigation •Mother-of-four persuaded girls who were being sexually abused to talk to police •She resigned from police force after claiming victims had been failed by officers By Maggie Oliver For The Daily Mail Published: 22:04, 10 July 2019 | Updated: 23:26, 10 July 2019 They were robbed of their childhood by a gang of Asian paedophiles and dismissed as ‘white trash’ by people who should know better. To me, however, the two sisters at the heart of the Rochdale scandal are like my surrogate children. Amber and Ruby [not their real names] are both grown-up now, with children of their own, but I know they still don’t feel safe. This week, Amber told me that one of her abusers works in a takeaway close to her home in Rochdale. Her worst fright, though, came last year, when she allowed her daughter to play outside a friend’s house with some other children. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/a...s-silence.html |

Nearly 19,000 children in England are exploited in a year as Home Office insists it will 'leave no stone unturned' in tackling child sexual grooming
•Number of child grooming victims has increased 'sharply' in the last five years •Local authorities have identified around 18,700 suspected victims in 2018-19 •Birmingham, Surrey and Bradford had some of the highest victim rates in Britain By Mail on Sunday Reporter Published: 23:25, 28 December 2019 | Updated: 02:00, 29 December 2019 The Home Office has said it will 'leave no stone unturned' in its bid to tackle child sexual grooming after it was reported that nearly 19,000 minors in England were exploited in the past year. Latest figures show a sharp increase in the number of child grooming victims over the last five years, according to The Independent. Areas including Birmingham, Lancashire and Bradford had some of the highest rates of child grooming victims in Britain. Figures showed that Lancashire recorded more than 600 children who were victims of grooming of any local authority. It was followed by Birmingham with almost 500 children, Surrey with almost 450 children, and Bradford with more than 400 children [File photo] Figures showed that Lancashire recorded more than 600 children who were victims of grooming of any local authority. It was followed by Birmingham with almost 500 children, Surrey with almost 450 children, and Bradford with more than 400 children [File photo] Local authorities identified around 18,700 suspected victims in 2018-19, up from 3,300 five years ago, the website reported. A spokesman for the Home Office said the department 'is committed to tackling child sexual abuse and will leave no stone unturned in tackling this abhorrent behaviour'. Which local authorities have the highest numbers of children who were victims of grooming? Figures obtained from the Department for Education show: •Lancashire- 624 •Birmingham- 490 •Surrey- 447 •Bradford- 414 •Gloucestershire- 409 . Sarah Champion, the Labour MP for Rotherham, which has been targeted by grooming gangs, told The Independent the figures show this type of exploitation 'remains one of the largest forms of child abuse in the country'. She added: 'Too many times, Government has said it will 'learn lessons', yet 19,000 children are still at risk of sexual exploitation.' The figures, obtained from the Department for Education, showed that Lancashire recorded more than 600 children who were victims of grooming of any local authority. It was followed by Birmingham, Surrey , Bradford and Gloucestershire. Earlier this month four men from Telford in the West Midlands were jailed for abusing a young girl who was sold for sex and raped. The offences took place between 2001 and 2002 and started when the girl, who is now an adult, was 13. The victim told the court she was assaulted by other unidentified males, with the abuse continuing until she was in her mid teens. The Home Office spokesman added that the department launched the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse 'to get to the truth, expose what has gone wrong and learn lessons for the future'. He added: 'The inquiry operates independently of government and, within its terms of reference, decides for itself what it investigates. 'The inquiry is investigating institutional responses to child sexual exploitation by organised criminal networks with public hearings set for the spring of 2020.' |

Whistleblowing detective says police chiefs should face charges over Asian grooming gang scandal that saw 97 men left free to rape or abuse 57 young girls because officers feared arrests would 'stoke racial tensions'
•Greater Manchester Police and local authorities slammed in damning report •Officers were aware of 'many sensitive community issues' between 2002 and 05 •They feared 'the incitement of racial hatred' while victims did not get justice By Lara Keay For Mailonline Published: 10:01, 14 January 2020 | Updated: 01:24, 15 January 2020 A whistleblowing detective has said Greater Manchester Police chiefs should face charges after a damning new report revealed they left 97 men free to groom 57 young girls by dropping their investigation into Asian grooming gangs. GMP detectives launched Operation Augusta in 2004 after the death of a 15-year-old girl called Victoria Agoglia who previously told carers she had been raped and injected with heroin by an Asian man. But the probe was shelved a year later despite the force uncovering almost 100 paedophiles in south Manchester who later went on to rape and abuse dozens of young girls in the areas. After the devastating findings were published in a new report today, former GMP detective Maggie Oliver has slammed officials responsible for dropping their enquiries. Speaking at the launch of the report, which was commissioned by Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham, Mrs Oliver said: 'Fifteen years - the perpetrators that we knew on Operation Augusta were abusing generations of children were allowed to walk free. 'The kids themselves that I spoke to - I was on Operation Augusta, I wrote the report - those children were just cast to the wind, left to their own devices. Nobody cared about them. 'And I am talking about the people at the top of the police and at social services. The chief constable, assistant chief constables, head of social services, the people who knew the facts, who knew the truth and they chose to bury the truth. That, in my opinion, is unforgivable.'
