On January 27, the ISS-49/50 crew began training as part of Russian cosmonauts Sergei Ryzhikov and Andrei Borisenko, American astronaut Robert Kimbro.

Within 48 hours the crew practiced the operations necessary for survival in case of abnormal landing of the descent vehicle. During this time, the cosmonauts carried out changing clothes in heat-shield suits and actions related to the "construction" of temporary housing, gained experience in providing medical assistance and interaction with search and rescue services. They built the necessary shelters, prepared enough firewood to support the fire at night. In addition, during the "winter survival" they worked out the skills of interaction with each other in an extreme situation.

4:26 - The pilot says that now he can not take them and asks them to hold out until the morning.

5:00 - The pilot says that he found a platform suitable for evacuation of the crew and asks them to go there.

5:30 - One of the crew members "broke" the hand.

6:17 - The crew was congratulated on the successful completion of the training.

The crew consisted of cosmonauts of Roskosmos Alexander Samokutyaev and Elena Serova, NASA astronaut Barry Wilmore. The Soyuz TMA-14M landed in a specified area 147 km southeast of the city of Zhezkazgan (Kazakhstan).

As far as I understood there were two types of cosmonauts: military pilots and civilian experts. The video shows military pilots. But Sergei Krikalev was a cosmonaut from the eighth team (1985) of the KOROLEV ROCKET AND SPACE CORPORATION "ENERGIA".

In December 2010, two branches of the cosmonauts were united in one detachment.

Sergei Krikalev has had a colorful spaceflight career. In December 1991 he was aboard the Mir space station when the Soviet Union dissolved and returned to a new country--the Russian Federation. In December 1998 during the STS-88 mission aboard space shuttle Endeavour, he and NASA astronaut Robert Cabana were the first to enter the 'Unity' module of the new International Space Station.

Krikalev is now vice-president of RKK Energia and administrator of the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center. Cabana is now director of Kennedy Space Center.

Krikalev is also a time-traveler, having aged about 1 second longer than Earthbound humans due to the time-dilation effect orbiting Earth, and is the third-most-travelled spacefarer in history, with 804 days in space.

Cool Gagarin ...and Komorov

And, of course my number one Russian space hero Yuri Gagarin the first human to travel to space and back to earth safely

Here he is shown hunting in Russia with buddy and fellow cosmonaut Vlad Komorov (another outstanding cosmonaut) who was literally burned to a crisp on a failed re-entry in 1967

Space exploration is risky business and no matter what your political persuasion you have to admit the astronauts and cosmonauts of the 1960's had huge balls.

What was left of Komarov after his spacecraft smashed back into earth displayed in open casket so Russians ...in particular, space crew ...could fully appreciate the risky nature of the space venture their country was invested in.

Some say Gagarin changed after the death of buddy Komorov and the USSR's subsequent effort to cover up the reasons why it happened.

Yuri Gagarin died soon after Komorov in 1968 while flying a MiG 15 over a small airfield near Moscow, so we never got to know either of these guys in middle and old age where they likely would have told fantastic stories of man's first steps into space and the people who took them.

"I see no god up here ..." Yuri Gagarin to ground control during spaceflight.

На здоровье y'all!

9:42 - They are asked: How many experiments have you done?
They answer: We did more than 200 experiments.

10:27 - On the example of our crew, politicians should learn how to live peacefully together.

Call sign Tereshkova during the flight was Seagull.

In connection with the 55th anniversary of the flight (June 16, 1963) Tereshkova was congratulated by the leaders of Roscosmos and the cosmonauts in orbit.

1:26 - My heart trembled only when I talked with my mom. I flew over the Volga, my native river, on which I grew up. And when I spoke with my mother, my voice trembled even though I needed to tell her comforting words. She became a widow at 26 with three children. We could not say where we are going and we gave a subscription about the non-disclosure of secrecy. And my mom thought that I was taken to the second national team in the parachute sport.

Then my mother told me "You deceived me." I will never forget this. I said, "Mom, forgive me."

3:32 - John Glenn flew into space when he was 77 years old.
Once they told me:
"Shut up!
We have already lost Gagarin.
Shut up!"

But I would like once again to fly into space and then I would calm down.

0:41 - Valentina Tereshkova: I for them [cosmonauts who were shown before] as a talisman bringing good luck.

2:08 - Valentina Tereshkova: The call sign The seagull belonged to Sergey Korolev. We thought that if Russia, then a symbol must be Birch. But communication was carried out by Morse code. And the seagull / Чайка -> ЧК was shorter than the birch / Берёза -> БРЗ.

2:44 - Alexei Leonov: It was an extraordinary rejoicing. Press with dozens of movie cameras, they all wanted to see who she was. Women have risen in spirit. Because they have proved that they too can do this.

3:05 - Valentina Tereshkova: With a feeling of deep excitement, I wholeheartedly thank our Soviet government for the fact that I - (a Soviet woman, a former worker of the Yaroslavl Textile Combine "Krasny Perekop") - was entrusted to carry out a long time space flight.

3:28 - Valentina Tereshkova: Of course, there were a lot of people wishing to fly into space. I was lucky. Of the large number, 5 women were selected. Two women were from Moscow, one woman from Sverdlovsk [Yekaterinburg], one woman from Ryazan and I from Yaroslavl. And then the preparations for the flight began.

4:00 - Alexei Leonov: Preparation of the women's team was completely the same as the men's crews. It was very hard for them. And now it's even difficult for us to imagine how hard it was for them!

4:58 - Valentina Tereshkova: Then it was the first flights. And of course a lot of things were unknown. Then it was necessary to start from the very beginning and gain experience, which is now used in training cosmonauts. It was hard work, a complicated work, but a happy work.

5:32 - Man: Here is the machine where Valentina Tereshkova worked. Soon it will be transported to the museum.

5:50 - Voice: This is the Yaroslavl Textile Combine "Krasny Perekop." Here she heard on the radio news about the flight of Yuri Gagarin, which changed her life.

6:01 - Valentina Tereshkova: We had a huge team at the plant. We constantly discussed: What is he like? How does he feel himself? How hard is it for him?

We were genuinely interested in all this. And there are a lot of people on the streets and they already had a portrait of Gagarin. And we were happy. And everyone said: "He is ours. He is our Soviet man."

6:30 - Voice: On weekends she was constantly at the airport in Yaroslavl. She made about 100 jumps with a parachute.

6:38 - Valentina Tereshkova: The first cosmonauts were recruited mainly from fighter pilots. Because they are people who make the right decisions instantly. In their work there is no possibility to think long time.

We were recruited from among the paratroopers. In this kind of activity, too, there is no time for reflection.

7:31 - This is Irina Solovyova, she was an alternate of Valentina Tereshkova.

7:57 - Valentina Tereshkova: We did not know how to fly a plane. We were taught how to rule transport planes and MiG-15UTI jet aircraft.

8:20 - This is cosmonaut Anna Kikina.

8:55 - Man: On behalf of the command of the Air Force I am proposing:

that sub lieutenant Tereshkova be appointed Commander of the Vostok-6 spacecraft;
that sub lieutenant Solovyova be appointed Deputy Commander;
that sub lieutenant Ponomareva be appointed Deputy Commander.

9:14 - Valentina Tereshkova: It's hard for me to say why I was chosen. We were almost equally well prepared. Only one woman was rejected for medical reasons. But the state commission and Sergey Korolev chose …

9:30 - Valentina Tereshkova: I'm happy that I - (an ordinary Soviet girl) has the great honor to fly into space. I assure you that I will perform all tasks during the flight as a communist.

10:10 - Valentina Tereshkova: Оf course, there was not the rescue system. Around was a metal mesh. And there were holes in it, through which it was possible to fail even in a spacesuit. When we came, they told me: "Do not worry, the mesh will be able to catch you."

11:12 - Nikita Khrushchev: Your call sign the Seagull but allow me to call you just Valya. I am very happy and almost like a father I am proud that our girl is the world's first in space.

11:31 - Valentina Tereshkova: My heart trembled only when I talked with my mom.

12:09 - Valentina Tereshkova: I saw that the engine's brake unit was not aimed at lowering the spacecraft but it was aimed at the rise of the spacecraft. I reported this to the Earth.

12:28 - Valentina Tereshkova: My report caused a big stir there. For a while they counted and checked everything and then they gave me new data. I used this data and my landing passed normally. I landed in the Altai Krai. I was amazed at the endless fields around. The wind was strong, so I had to stand on my head [in the air?] a couple of times. But this is a normal phenomenon and the parachutists are familiar with it.

13:01 - Valentina Tereshkova: Immediately someone brought onions, and someone brought cucumbers. It was an incredibly generous hospitality. I gave them space food.

13:47 - Voice: Before the start Valentina Tereshkova promised that she would conquer outer space. She quoted a line from Vladimir Mayakovsky's poems:

"Hey! Sky! Take off your hat..." [as a sign of respect for me]

Space gave way to the first woman of the planet Earth. Tereshkova conquered it.

0:03 - Voice: Gennady Padalka is one of the most experienced and authoritative cosmonauts. He was even nicknamed the record man. In general, he spent in orbit more than any other earthman - 878 days.

0:37 - Voice: Return with a record is not the finale of his tests. Padalka became the first cosmonaut who took part in the most complicated experiment. This experiment consisted in simulating a landing on another planet by means of a centrifuge immediately after returning from a real space flight. The task was to find out whether the ability to control a spacecraft after a long stay in weightlessness. Gennady Padalka proved that, having descended from orbit, he can immediately sit down for control, for example, the Mars rover.

1:11 - Gennady Padalka: The level of development of medicine today is completely different and it is now possible to understand how a human body can withstand such an extreme situation as the radiation and the absence of gravity. In general, people are ready for this.

1:23 - Voice: Gennady was born in Krasnodar. As a child, he dreamed of becoming a pilot. He graduated from the Higher Military Aviation School of Yeysk. Once a young lieutenant was joked by the general: how will you fly with such non-aerial last name? [his last name is close to the Russian word mean "to fall"] Padalka took this with humor, but he did not dare to make a sharp joke in response.

1:44 - Voice: Padalka participated in 5 space flights. He conducted hundreds of experiments in orbit. He became the first who made tomography of eyes and ultrasound on board the ISS. The role of the patient was played by cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko. Ultrasound examination was to show how water is distributed in the human body under conditions of weightlessness.

2:25 - Gennady Padalka: Now we can fly long thanks to our good rehabilitation system. And the experience of training that we received over the past 50 years. We recover very quickly after the flight. And the professional age of the cosmonaut is growing.

2:32 - Voice: He was the first cosmonaut to make Selfie in outer space. And he also did an unusual operation to clean the ISS portholes from the outside.

2:45 - Voice: Today (June 21, 2018) Gennady Padalka is 60 years old. He is sure that for a new flight into space, that's quite a suitable age.

2:54 - Gennady Padalka: The number of miles that I flew around the Earth is 2.5 distances from Earth to Mars. There and back, there and back and there… That is, it turns out that I flew away and did not return. Therefore, I need to fly into space sixth times to return.

3:11 - Voice: Gennady Padalka admits that he wants to return to space. He never experienced on Earth such emotions as in orbit.

0:50 - According to the training scenario, the capsule received minor damage when landing on water. Cosmonauts must take off their spacesuits and change into heat-protective suits, put on suits "Форель / Trout" and get out of the capsule. All this should be done in a space of about 3 cubic meters.

1:15 - Imagine you three sit in the back seat of the car and try to remove one jacket and put on another jacket.

4:00 - Training on a more serious scenario. The capsule was seriously damaged and cosmonauts have no time for disguising. The crew must immediately leave the capsule in the spacesuits.

4:55 - The tests that took place in the 1980s showed that the capsule flooding takes place in 3-4 minutes.

5:10 - In October 1976, a capsule with cosmonauts Vyacheslav Zudov and Valery Rozhdestvensky landed in the Kazakh lake Tengiz. The crew spent 12 hours in cold water.

5:45 - The commander of the helicopter crew decided to transport the capsule to the shore. Although he did not have the right to such decisions.

6:00 - Although this was the only case of landing on water in the history of our cosmonautics, now all cosmonauts are supposed to conduct training on the water.

0:33 - Viktor Blagov (Head of the Soyuz-Apollo docking): Instead of dealing with the Cold War, we took up cooperation in space. I want to note that only the space industry was so bold.

0:57 - Victor Pavlov (engineer for the docking systems of the Soyuz and Apollo spacecraft): Of course, this was preceded by a tremendous work on the Earth and colossal work on coordination of interfaces. And as a result, all this worked well.

1:05 - Speaker: The internal atmosphere of spacecraft was different. American technology worked in the oxygen environment. The Soviet apparatus operated on air-gas mixtures, i.e. in the ordinary air.

1:18 - Viktor Blagov (Head of the Soyuz-Apollo docking): Now Americans fly with air as well as we.

1:22 - Speaker: Docking nodes did not fit together. Therefore, the engineers made an androgynous peripheral docking unit.

1:32 - Victor Pavlov (engineer for the docking systems of the Soyuz and Apollo spacecraft): The systems were incompatible. The system was on the principle of a pin-cone. And it was difficult for us to agree which of us should be a "pin", and who should be a "cone". We all wanted to be active, strong and be "pin".

1:41 - Speaker: July 15, 1975 from Baikanur started the spacecraft Soyuz-19 with cosmonauts Alexei Leonov and Valery Kubasov.

2:17 - Speaker: For the first time Moscow broadcast the launch and flight in live broadcast. Suddenly the color camera failed and it was an emergency. Americans also had problems. When reconnecting the airlock, it became clear that the historic meeting in space is on the verge of collapse. A cable interferes with the opening of the hatch.

2:40 - Viktor Blagov (Head of the Soyuz-Apollo docking): This meant that we could dock with another docking system of this gateway, but the transition from one spaceship to another would be impossible. We can enter the gateway, but in Apollo we can not enter.

2:56 - Speaker: Spacecrafts in orbit docked twice. First time on July 17.

3:02 - Alexey Leonov: I open the hatch and see a smiling face of Tom Stafford. We have been preparing for this for three years. I took his hand and dragged him into our spaceship.

3:25 - Speaker: After two days, the space ships dispersed. But after two turns around the Earth they made a repeated docking. After that, Soyuz-19 went into landing and successfully landed on July 21.

3:41 - Speaker: Since then, the crews have become best friends.

3:44 - Alexey Leonov: In 1945 our fathers met on the Elbe. And after 30 years, the children of these soldiers met over the Elbe. I do not know how it happened. I do not know at what moment the time has accelerated.

4:09 - Speaker: In 2004, Thomas Stafford adopted two Russian boys.

4:24 - Speaker: Today the participants of this historic meeting are sure that without the docking of the "Union" and "Apollo", the Mir-Shuttle program and the ISS would not have taken place.
