I was wondering the same thing. An erudite man like John was a great addition to VOR.

I hope his absence is only temporary.

Default radio show elsewhere -- and planning something BIG

Dear comrades,

Despite my intense admiration for VOR radio, Dietrich, Mishko, Peter Schaenk, Mark Faust, the Subie sisters and others, we did have some silly personality clashes, so I moved over to www.enationalist.com/radio, where I can run my own show as I see fit.

In fact, since I reluctantly moved on, I have had VOR's hosts Peter Schaenk and Susie of the Subie sisters on my new show as special guests, and I have been on the Subie sisters' show on VOR as well.

So there are no lasting hard feelings. White unity is my watchword and has been for thirty years (1978 to now).

Beyond that, I am deeply committed to something EVEN BIGGER than talk radio.

===============

Dear [comrade],

Thank you for your thoughtful email.

I agree with everything you say about running for local office -- except there are urgent, overriding, countervailing considerations.

First, I cannot run for anything in Pennsylvania this year at all, since I am a brand-new resident of the state. And I am ready to run and not to sit back and watch this obscene federal spectacle.

Secondly, I am certain that if a white voice does not run for president this year, we will not have business as usual next year (i.e., the continued GRADUAL erosion of our freedoms) but instead a quantum leap forward this year and next into ZOG's police state agenda.

I believe, specifically, that the following may or will happen in 2009 under Obama, Hillary or McCain UNLESS I intervene as a dark-horse candidate (and the only major white voice nationwide):

1) hate-speech laws as in Canada and Germany
2) amnesty for 40 MILLION Mexicans, leading to 40 mio. more
3) drastically sharpened gun control laws
4) worst-case scenario: the ZOG govt itself murders Obama in a Manchurian-candidate setup. It instigates race riots. It sends in the Guard or regular federal troops. It announces that hate-speech on the Net is what led to the death of the Sainted Obama and billions in race-riot damage -- and there must be "a reasonable limitation on free speech until order is restored." (Never.)

Once we lose freedom of speech, and end up like Canada and Germany, then they take away everything else, including the guns. Then they can do whatever else they want with us.

The only reason why hope stays alive anywhere in the white world is the location of white free-speech websites right here in America. Many vital European websites have their servers here, which is why they so far cannot be shut down.

I simply MUST run a high-volume candidacy this year.

Obama, Hillary and McCain will ALL sign into law hate-speech legislation -- the US will thus join every single other white country on earth in hate-speech laws -- unless I hold their feet to the fire and force them to swear publicly that this is unthinkable.

WE MUST SAVE THE FREE-SPEECH NET.

And I MUST publicly warn Obama that -- not we "white supremacists " but instead -- the ZOG JEWS are gunning for him. Be sure to read my post below.

And I must turn black rage where it should belong -- against THE JEWS. (The Jews who, as they well know, were also the first slave-dealers. The most antisemitic demographic in America is blacks. Ironically, I must help save Obama's life to save ours as white activists -- and create a wartime alliance of reason with certain blacks against the Jews and against the Mexicans.)

I saw the Jon Stewart show the other night, mocking the servility of the three major candidates at the AIPAC convention, and Obama was the Jews' least favorite candidate, McCain the favorite.

The Jews know, especially after the "Rev." Jeremiah Wright outbursts, two things:

1) Obama is a regular, standard, typical race-conscious black nationalist, and all black nationalists resent Jews
2) his charisma make him dangerous; they prefer the safe, subservient "albino chipmunk." ZOG fears anyone whose charisma can create an independent following. That is why they gunned down so many leaders of left and right over the years whose only common denominator was charisma --

George. Lincoln. Rockwell (right),
Malcolm X (left),
both Kennedys (left),
ML King (left),
George Wallace (right),
John Lennon (left), and
Ronald Reagan (right).

Manchurian candidates were used in many cases.

If I run, it will not be a joke candidacy for president. Ron Paul took in $34 million -- and yet he looks like Goofy, and his gold standard idea IS goofy.

A true phenomenon is needed NOW. 2008 will be the decisive year. I moved here to Pennsylvania, land of my father's family, and found that whites in all Rust Belt states are very, very, very ready.

(Obama lost 60 of 67 counties in Pa; he lost W. Virginia by 41 points; he was also shellacked in Kentucky -- by the pitiful likes of Hillary, no less. Working-class whites do not like this skinny, jive-talking negro at all.)

In summary, I cannot run for local office and there are vast federal issues that only a federal-level white candidate can and must address -- such as THE GULAG FOR WHITE ACTIVISTS.

Otherwise, yes, I would run for state legislature, town council -- all theoretically winnable -- or even sheriff.

If you are serious, I am sure you can find time to meet with me. I have people who have moved here from Texas and Nebraska, and more coming from Finland and elsewhere overseas. Again, thank you for your email. In normal times, I would agree with you about a local race. But the time has come when ZOG is speeding up its timetable.

Beyond this, the white baby boom of 75 million kids 1946-64 is now entering its fifties and sixties. We cannot fight or win any street battles in wheelchairs. There must be a white phoenix now.

John de Nugent

Please read the below, if you've not already seen it:

Chertoff lies that Nazis/Klan plan to assassinate obama

I can state categorically after 30 year of KNOWING the key individuals that NOT ONE LEADER in the entire white movement, myself or any other (and I am not speaking of FBI infiltrators and agent provocateurs under COINTELPRO), is planning or encouraging anyone to assassinate/murder Barack Obama. In fact, he as "president" would merely drive home the point that the US regime is no longer our country. John McCain would be far worse, because Obama is not pretending to be a white conservative. Obama is, to be blunt, an honest liberal black racist. McCain, like the murderer Cain who slew his own brother, is a murderer of the true conservative cause. Barack Obama is a bright, charismatic man, a husband and a father of two girls as I once was, and he does not deserve to die at ZOG's hands or anyone else's. Obama alive as a black nationalist will only advance our cause of a white civil rights movement.

John de Nugent (b. Providence, Rhode Island July 14, 1954) is a white nationalist, or as he writes, white "nationist" -- an activist, leader, writer, radio personality and speaker.

Descended via both parents from Thomas Angell, one of the co-founders in 1636 of the colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations (now called "State of Rhode Island"), de Nugent grew up in his ancestral Providence, Rhode Island area. His distant ancestors were from Normandy, France.

In the wake of his parents' divorce when he was 15 in 1970, which gave custody to his mother Constance, he was induced to join the religious group "Jehovah's Witnesses," and from 1970-76 was a member, serving even at their world headquarters in Brooklyn Heights, New York.

Thoroughly disillusioned -- especially after the sect's broken promise of the "end of the world" in 1975 -- de Nugent broke away at age 21 in 1976.

He was married to Gerda Atzl of Brandenberg, Austria from 1975-1990, having two daughters. (A second marriage, 2002-2005, to a French citizen was annulled in 2006.)

In 1976, de Nugent volunteered to join the United States Marine Corps Reserve, and after basic training at Parris Island, South Carolina he served in a Marine Reserve unit, the 35th Interrogator-Translator Team at the Washington Navy Yard (and later at the nearby Anacostia Naval Air Base), led by the Jewish captain Harvey Philip Gold. He received three meritorious promotions within approximately one year, but after his white nationist politics became known, he was nearly murdered by Dutch Marines (as confirmed by an article by the Jewish captain), and was transfered in the fall of 1979 to an all-black supply unit.

He then requested an inter-service transfer to an infantry unit of the Virginia Army National Guard, where he was named "Guardsperson of the Year" for 1980 by his commanding officer, Captain John Holt. He left the Active Reserves in 1981.

In this same year de Nugent also graduated from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., with a 3.702 average, earning the designation magna cum laude ("with high honors"). He was also admitted to the national honor society known as Phi Beta Kappa. He had majored in German and minored in French.

"White nationism"

John de Nugent's career in white nationism began in 1978. He was assigned as part of his major in German at Georgetown to read some passages from Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf dealing with Hitler's views of the Jewish question. Perceiving parallels to the situation in the United States of the 1970s, de Nugent visited the Arlington, Va. headquarters of the National Socialist White People's Party, founded in 1967 by former US Navy commander George Lincoln Rockwell (another quasi-Rhode Islander) but headed after Rockwell's 1967 assassination by Matt Koehl, a former Marine who now directs the Wisconsin-based "The New Order."

After some activism with the NSWPP, de Nugent met Dr. William L. Pierce in 1981, a former physicist and chairman of the National Alliance. He wrote several articles on recruiting new members for the National Alliance, spoke at the 1983 NA convention in Chicago, moderated the 1984 NA convention, and built a rapidly growing "Washington-Baltimore Unit" of the NA. He left the NA on good terms in 1984, viewing it as lacking a true religious base and an adequate number of women members.

In 1985 de Nugent worked with former West Point graduate and lawyer Gary Gallo of Maryland to raise funds for the legal defense of Bernard Goetz, the white New York subway crime victim who shot several young blacks.

In 1986 he worked with Hans Schmidt, a former member of the Waffen-SS division "Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler," on a project for German heritage in Washington.

From 1987-1992 de Nugent was an independent contractor who promoted the use of revocable trusts by those who wished to leave a bequest to Liberty Lobby, a Capitol Hill-based "populist" organization founded and run by Willis Carto.

Around July 1989 de Nugent moved to Metairie, Louisiana to study the electoral victory of pro-white State Representative David Duke, staying in Louisiana until the late spring of 1990.

In June-August 1990, de Nugent, using the campaign name "Jack Nugent," ran in the Republican primary for Congress in the Sixth District of Tennessee, south and east of Nashville, on a pro-white platform. He achieved 26.7 percent of the vote, albeit de Nugent suspects that massive elecronic vote fraud denied him an outright victory on primary day, August 10, 1990. He received extensive local publicity and references to his race were made by Time and the op-ed page of the New York Times.

From 1992-2004 de Nugent wrote occasional articles on pro-white or anti-Zionist topics for various publications, including the magazine The Barnes Review. Three of the most noteworthy were on 1) Adolf Hitler's "Madagascar Plan" to resettle European Jewry on that huge French colonial island; 2) Kennewick Man; and 3) "The Great Patents Heist," the Allied seizure of thousands of vital German patents after 1945.

On April 20, 2005 de Nugent returned from the south of France to Washington, D.C. to become a major writer for The Barnes Review, and for a while was its associate editor. He also translated many articles from German and French, including his work on the translation of the memoirs of General Leon Degrelle of the Waffen-SS.

In the summer of 2006 he covered the Mannheim, Germany trial of German revisionist Ernst Zundel for The Barnes Review, and he spoke in Barcelona, Spain, in the Spanish language, on the topic of psychopaths in politics and among the Jewish population. His audience was white nationist publisher Pedro Varela and his followers.

Varela, arrested at his bookstore in 2006 by Spanish anti-terror commandos [sic].

In March 2007 de Nugent spoke, in German and in Germany, to gatherings of the prominent German activists Gunter Deckert and Manfred Roeder, and met with Vincent Reynouard, the French revisionist living in Belgian political exile, and conferred with David Duke, who had become a prominent pro-white writer. In April 2007, he spoke in East Lansing, Michigan to a gathering organized by young activist Evan Thomas.

In 2007 he began posting on a discussion "thread" called "Apocalypse of the Psychopaths" on an originally libertarian forum called "LibertyForum.org." The thread grew by May 2008 to 54,000 views. In early 2008 he began posting also actively on several other pro-white fora such as ThePhora.net, Stormfront.org and eNationalist Forum.

In October 2007 de Nugent was a major speaker at the anti-Zionist conference "No More Wars for Israel" in Irvine, California, and helped secure new venues after several hotels refused to host it.

In February 2008 de Nugent moved to greater Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, an area he considered ideal for pursuing further pro-white activities. There he began preparing a possible re-entry into political life. He was joined there by other white activists, and through his writings and videos online began to become known worldwide in the pro-white community.

Thanks very much, Obadiah 1:18!

BTW, why is the Bible verse of your avatar of meaning to you?

Quote:
And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it.

I always said it was quite telling that a man and political party [Hitler and his NSDAP] that haven't been around for 60 years show up in the main mass media news or in some entertainment-based major medium several times a day.

I respond:

Partly, Jews use Hitler to crush whites today. Partly it is that Jews are genuinely fascinated themselves by Hitler. David Irving once said the main readers of his [Third Reich-sympathetic] war books were Jews.

On track. Let the Depression, the Obama, Lesbillary and Juan McCain get the country into an even deeper funk for now.

While looking at some of your articles, I saw the one about the black with the boombox on wheels at a gas station. The guy said they were supposed to turn off their car while pumping gas.

It reminds me of a time I was at a gas station a couple of years ago and there is a black pumping gas while smoking a cigarette. I was about on the edge of saying something when he began talking to another Afro and in order to point at something, he transferred the cigarette to the hand holding the nozzle.

Fearing talking to him might cause the nozzle to shift, letting the gas vapor hit the flame, I just got as far away as possible.

Nothing happened, but it is just amazing there aren't more disasters.

1) Blacks never asked to come here. They were brutally dragged here at the instigation of Jew slave traders.

2) They tried very hard to go back to Africa in the 1920s under the leadership of Marcus Garvey.
Then the FBI and a Jew Yawk City prosecutor railroaded him into prison!!!

I first became aware of this fact when a US marshal, who had responsibilities in the Washington DC jail (it being a special federal district) told me that he saw jail cells inhabited by black prisoners that were decorated with pictures of one "Marcus Garvey."

"Who?"

Quote:
"Garvey, Marcus Garvey! He was a black who got the other blacks to agree that they should go back to Africa."

Well, although I went to a good college, I had never heard of the man! Neither have most whites. . . . Why NOT?

(The media sure tell us about Michael King and Malcolm X, and Obama. . . . )

Hmmmmm.

Wikipedia's entry on Marcus Garvey is fairly accurate, except that OF COURSE it does not mention that it was the Defamation League that instigated the shameful railroading of Marcus Garvey and his expulsion form the USA. After all, Garvey's message was welcome to blacks and to whites --and would have kept America white and Africa black.

But Jews wanted a mongrel America that they could divide and conquer. Once they got the blacks to stay, they began bringing in Chinese and Mexicans.

So they stuck Garvey in prison and then expelled him back to Jamaica.

How much misery Jews thus caused both blacks and whites in America!

----------------------

Early years

Garvey was born at 32 Market Street in St. Ann's Bay, Saint Ann Parish, Jamaica to Marcus Mosiah Garvey, Sr., a mason, and Sarah Jane Richards, a domestic worker and farmer. Of eleven siblings, only Garvey and his sister Indiana reached maturity.[5] Garvey's father was known to have a large library, and it was from his father that Marcus gained his love for reading.[6][7] Sometime in the year 1900 Garvey entered into an apprenticeship with his uncle Alfred Burrowes. Like his father, Mr. Burrowes had an extensive library of which Garvey made good use.[8][9]

Near the age of fourteen, Garvey left St. Ann's Bay for Kingston where he found employment as a compositor in the printery of P.A. Benjamin Limited. He was a master printer and foreman at Benjamin when, in November of 1907, he was elected vice-president of the Kingston Union. However, he was fired when he joined a strike by printers in late 1908. Having been blacklisted for his stance in the strike, he later found work at the Government Printing Office. In 1909 his newspaper The Watchman began publication, but it only lasted for three issues.

In 1910 Garvey left Jamaica and began traveling throughout the Central American region. He lived in Costa Rica for several months, where he worked as a time-keeper on a banana plantation. He began work as editor for a daily newspaper entitled 'La Nacionale' in 1911. Later that year, he moved to Colón, Panama where he edited a tri-weekly before returning to Jamaica in 1912.

After years of working in the Caribbean, Garvey left Jamaica to live in London from 1912 to 1914. There he attended Birkbeck College, worked for the African Times and Orient Review, published by Dusé Mohamed Ali, and sometimes spoke at Hyde Park's Speakers' Corner.

[edit] Founding of the UNIA-ACL

During his travels, Garvey became convinced that uniting Blacks was the only way to improve their condition. Towards that end, he departed England on June 14, 1914 aboard the S.S. Trent, reaching Jamaica on July 15, 1914. The Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA) was founded in August 1914 as a means of uniting all of Africa and its diaspora into "one grand racial hierarchy." Amy Ashwood, who would later be Garvey's first wife, was among the founders. As the group's first President-General, his goal was "to unite all people of African ancestry of the world to one great body to establish a country and absolute government of their own."[10]

According to Garvey, while he was traveling in the la habra, the name of the organization was the result of a conversation he had with a West Indian and his Basuto wife. During the discussion he "further learned of the horrors of native life in Africa."[citation needed] Following much reflection the following day and night about what he learned, "the vision and thought came" to "name the organization the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities (Imperial) League."[11]

After corresponding with Booker T. Washington, Garvey arrived in the U.S. aboard the S.S. Tallac to give a lecture tour and to raise funds for establishment of a school in Jamaica modeled after Washington's Tuskegee Institute on March 23, 1916. Garvey visited Tuskegee, and afterward, a number of Black leaders. After moving to New York he found work as a printer by day. He was influenced by Hubert Harrison, and at night he would speak on street corners, much like he did in London's Hyde Park. It was then Garvey percieved a leadership vacuum among people of African ancestry, and so on May 9, 1916, he held his first public lecture in New York City at St Mark's Church in-the-Bowery and undertook a 38-state speaking tour.

In May of 1917 Garvey and thirteen others formed the first UNIA division outside Jamaica and began advancing ideas promoting social, political, and economic freedom for Blacks. On July 2, the East St. Louis riots broke out. On July 8, Garvey delivered an address, entitled "The Conspiracy of the East St. Louis Riots," at Lafayette Hall in Harlem. During the speech he declared the riot was "one of the bloodiest outrages against mankind." By October, rancor within the UNIA had begun to set in. A split occurred in the Harlem division with Garvey enlisted to become the head of the division; although he still technically held the same position in Jamaica.

Garvey next set about the business of developing a program to improve the conditions of those of African ancestry "at home and abroad" under UNIA auspices. On August 17, 1918, publication of the widely distributed Negro World newspaper began. Garvey worked as an editor for free up until November 1920. By June of 1919 the membership of the organization had grown to over two million.

On June 27, 1919, the Black Star Line of Delaware, was incorporated by the members of the UNIA with Garvey as President. By September it obtained its first ship. Much fanfare surrounded the inspection of the S.S. Yarmouth and its rechristening as the S.S. Frederick Douglass on September 14, 1919. Such a rapid accomplishment garnered attention from many.

One person who noticed was Edwin P. Kilroe, Assistant District Attorney in the District Attorney's office of the County of New York. Kilroe began an investigation into the activities of the UNIA without finding any evidence of wrongdoing or mismanagement. After being called to Kilroe's office numerous times without any resolution, Garvey wrote an editorial on Kilroe's activities for the Negro World. Garvey was arrested and indicted for criminal libel in relation to the article, but charges were dismissed after Garvey published a retraction.

While in his Harlem office at 56 West 156th Street on October 14, 1919, Garvey received a visit from a man by the name of George Tyler. Tyler told him that Kilroe "had sent him" to get Garvey. Tyler then pulled a .38-calibre revolver and fired four shots, wounding Garvey in the right leg and scalp. Garvey was taken to the hospital and Tyler arrested. The next day Tyler apparently committed suicide by jumping from the third tier of the Harlem jail while he was being taken to his arraignment.

By August 1920, the UNIA claimed four million members. That month the International Convention of the UNIA was held. With delegates from all over the world in attendance, over 25,000 people filled Madison Square Garden on August 1 to hear Garvey speak.

Another of Garvey's ventures was the Negro Factories Corporation. His plan called for creating the infrastructure to manufacture every marketable commodity in every big U.S. industrial center, as well as in Central America, the West Indies, and Africa. Related endeavors included a grocery chain, restaurant, publishing house, and other businesses.

A speech by Marcus Garvey:

Convinced that Blacks should have a permanent homeland in Africa, Garvey sought to develop Liberia. "Our success educationally, industrially and politically is based upon the protection of a nation founded by ourselves. And the nation can be nowhere else but in Africa."[citation needed]

The Liberia program, launched in 1920, was intended to build colleges, universities, industrial plants, and railroads as part of an industrial base from which to operate. However, it was abandoned in the mid-1920s after much opposition from European powers with interests in Liberia. In response to suggestions that he wanted to take all Americans of African ancestry back to Africa, he wrote, "We do not want all the Negroes in Africa. Some are no good here, and naturally will be no good there."[12]

Garvey has been credited with creating the biggest movement of people of African descent. At its zenith, the UNIA claimed over a million members. This movement that took place in the 1920s is said to have had more participation from people of African descent than the Civil Rights Movement. In essence the UNIA was the largest Pan-African movement.

[edit] Charge of mail fraud

In a memorandum dated October 11, 1919[13], J. Edgar Hoover, special assistant to the Attorney General, and head of the General Intelligence Division (or "anti-radical division"),[14] of The Bureau of Investigation or BOI (after 1935, the Federal Bureau of Investigation)[15] wrote a memorandum to Special Agent Ridgely regarding Marcus Garvey. In the memo, Hoover wrote that:
Quote:"He (Garvey) has not as yet violated any federal law whereby he could be proceeded against on the grounds of being an undesirable alien, from the point of view of deportation.[16][17]

J. Edgar Hoover. Supposedly of German descent. Does he look like any German you may have seen or met?

Sometime around November of 1919 an investigation by the BOI was begun into the activities of Garvey and the UNIA. Towards this end the BOI hired James Edward Amos, Arthur Lowell Brent, Thomas Leon Jefferson, James Wormley Jones, and Earl E. Titus as its first five African-American agents. Although initial efforts by the BOI were to find grounds upon which to deport Garvey as "an undesirable alien", a charge of mail fraud was brought against Garvey in connection with stock sales of the Black Star Line after the U.S. Post Office and the Attorney General joined the investigation.[17]

The accusation centered on the fact that the corporation had not yet purchased a ship with the name "Phyllis Wheatley". Although one was pictured with that name emblazoned on its bow on one of the company's stock brochures it had not actually been purchased by the BSL and still had the name Orion. The prosecution produced as evidence a single empty envelope which it claimed contained the brochure. During the trial, a man by the name of Benny Dancy testified that he didn't remember what was in the envelope, although he regularly received brochures from the Black Star Line. Another witness for the prosecution, Schuyler Cargill, perjured himself after admitting[18] to having been told to mention certain dates in his testimony by Chief Prosecutor Maxwell S. Mattuck. Furthermore, he admitted that he could not remember the names of any coworkers in the office, including the timekeeper who punched employees time cards. Ultimately, he acknowledged being told to lie by Postal Inspector F.E. Shea [19]. He said Shea told him to state that he mailed letters containing the purportedly fraudulent brochures. The Black Star Line did own and operate several ships over the course of its history and was in the process of negotiating for the disputed ship at the time the charges were brought.

Of the four Black Star Line officers charged in connection with the enterprise, only Garvey was found guilty of using the mail service to defraud. His supporters called the trial fraudulent. While there were serious accounting irregularities within the Black Star Line and the claims he used to sell Black Star Line stock could be considered misleading, Garvey's supporters still contest that the prosecution was a politically motivated miscarriage of justice, given the above-mentioned false statement testimony and Hoover's explicit regret that Garvey had committed no crimes.

When the trial ended on June 23, 1923, Garvey had been sentenced to five years in prison. He initially spent three months in the Tombs Jail awaiting approval of bail. While on bail he continued to maintain his innocence, travel, speak and organize the UNIA. After numerous attempts at appeal were unsuccessful, he was taken into custody and began serving his sentence at the Atlanta Federal Penitentiary on February 8, 1925.[20] Two days later, he penned his well known "First Message to the Negroes of the World From Atlanta Prison" wherein he makes his famous proclamation:

Look for me in the whirlwind or the storm, look for me all around you, for, with God's grace, I shall come and bring with me countless millions of black slaves who have died in America and the West Indies and the millions in Africa to aid you in the fight for Liberty, Freedom and Life.[21]

Professor Judith Stein has stated, "his politics were on trial."[22]

Garvey's sentence was eventually commuted by President Calvin Coolidge. Since Garvey had been convicted of a felony and was not a U.S. citizen, federal law required his immediate deportation.[citation needed] Upon his release in November 1927, Garvey was deported via New Orleans to Jamaica, where a large crowd met him at Orrett's Wharf in Kingston. A huge procession and band converged on UNIA headquarters.

[edit] Criticism

While W. E. B. Du Bois expressed the Black Star Line was "original and promising,"[23] he also said: "Marcus Garvey is, without doubt, the most dangerous enemy of the Negro race in America and in the world. He is either a lunatic or a traitor." [24] Du Bois was afraid that Garvey's extremism would undermine his efforts toward black rights.

Garvey suspected Du Bois was prejudiced against him because he was a Caribbean native with darker skin. Garvey called Du Bois "purely and simply a white man's nigger" and "a little Dutch, a little French, a little Negro ... a mulatto ... a monstrosity." This led to an acrimonious relationship between Garvey and the NAACP.[25] Garvey accused Du Bois of paying conspirators to sabotage the Black Star Line to destroy his reputation. Du Bois was, nevertheless, a strong supporter of Pan-Africanism.[26][27]

Garvey recognized the influence of the Ku Klux Klan, and in early 1922, he went to Atlanta, Georgia for a conference with KKK imperial giant Edward Young Clarke.

According to Garvey, "I regard the Klan, the Anglo-Saxon clubs and White American societies, as far as the Negro is concerned, as better friends of the race than all other groups of hypocritical whites put together. I like honesty and fair play. You may call me a Klansman if you will, but, potentially, every white man is a Klansman, as far as the Negro in competition with whites socially, economically and politically is concerned, and there is no use lying."[28]

After Garvey's entente with the Ku Klux Klan, a number of African American leaders appealed to U.S. Attorney General Harry M. Daugherty to have Garvey incarcerated.[29]

[edit] Later years

Garvey travelled to Geneva in 1928 to present the Petition of the Negro Race, which outlined the worldwide abuse of Africans, to the League of Nations. In September 1929, he founded the People's Political Party (PPP), Jamaica's first modern political party, which focused on workers' rights, education, and aid to the poor.

Also in 1929, Garvey was elected councilor for the Allman Town Division of the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC). He lost his seat, however, because of having to serve a prison sentence for contempt of court, but in 1930, he was re-elected, unopposed, along with two other PPP candidates.

In April 1931, Garvey launched the Edelweiss Amusement Company, which he set up to help artists earn their livelihood from their craft. Several Jamaican entertainers — Kidd Harold, Ernest Cupidon, Bim & Bam, and Ranny Williams — went on to become popular after receiving initial exposure that the company gave them.

In 1935, Garvey left Jamaica for London, where he lived and worked until his death in 1940. During these last five years, he remained active and in touch with events in war-torn Ethiopia (then known as Abyssinia) and the West Indies. In 1938, he gave evidence before the West Indian Royal Commission on conditions there. Also in 1938, he set up the School of African Philosophy at 355 College St., in Toronto, Canada to train UNIA leaders. He continued to work on the magazine The Black Man.

In 1937, a group of his American supporters, called the Peace Movement of Ethiopia, openly collaborated with Mississippi Senator Theodore Bilbo in the promotion of a repatriation scheme introduced in the US Congress as the Greater Liberia Act.

On June 10, 1940, Garvey died after two strokes, putatively after reading a mistaken, and negative, obituary of himself in the Chicago Defender.[30] Because of travel conditions during World War II, he was interred at Kensal Green Cemetery in London.

In 1964, his remains were exhumed and taken to Jamaica. On November 15, 1964, the government of Jamaica, having proclaimed him Jamaica's first national hero, ceremoniously re-interred him at a shrine in National Heroes Park.

[edit] Influence

Garvey's memory has been kept alive worldwide. Schools, colleges, highways, and buildings in Africa, Europe, the Caribbean, and the United States have been named in his honor. The UNIA red, black, and green flag has been adopted as the Black Liberation Flag. Since 1980, Garvey's bust has been housed in the Organization of American States' Hall of Heroes in Washington, D.C.

Malcolm X's father Earl Little met Malcolm's mother Louise at a UNIA convention in Montreal, Canada. He also was the president of the UNIA division in Omaha, Nebraska and sold the Negro World newspaper while his wife Louise was a contributor to the Negro World.

Kwame Nkrumah named the national shipping line of Ghana the Black Star Line in honor of Garvey and the UNIA. Nkrumah also named the national soccer team the Black Stars as well. The black star at the center of Ghana's flag is also inspired by the Black Star Line.

During a trip to Jamaica, Martin Luther King and his wife Coretta Scott King visited the shrine of Marcus Garvey on June 20, 1965 and laid a wreath.[31] In a speech he told the audience that Garvey "was the first man of color to lead and develop a mass movement. He was the first man on a mass scale and level to give millions of Negroes a sense of dignity and destiny. And make the Negro feel he was somebody."[32]

"I have a scheme today! Tell the blacks to stay in America and fight for civil rights, instead of going back to Africa!" His speech writer was Stanley Levison. King, like Obama, was a tool of the Jews against his own people. Garvey should have gotten the Nobel Peace Prize.

King was also the posthumous recipient of the first Marcus Garvey Prize for Human Rights on December 10, 1968 issued by the Jamaican Government and presented to King's widow.

The United States of Africa first saw light in a 1924 poem by Garvey and is still discussed.

There have been pop culture references to Marcus Garvey since he first came on the international scene. Garvey is cited repeatedly in a diverse variety of books, songs and films. He is mentioned particularly frequently in blues, reggae, jazz and hip hop music.
