Default A Tragic Story of What Happened to Women After D-Day

A Tragic Story of What Happened to Women After D-Day

They called it the épuration sauvage, the wild purge, because it was spontaneous and unofficial. But, yes, it was savage, too. In the weeks and months following the D-Day landings of June 6, 1944, Allied troops and the resistance swept across France liberating towns and villages, and unleashing a flood of collective euphoria, relief and hope. And then the punishments began.

Default Worst Generation in action

We also don't hear enough about all the French, German, Dutch, Belgian and Italian women who were raped and brutalized by their so-called "liberators"--the Anglo-American armies that swept through Europe after D-Day, and earlier, as in the invasions of Sicily and Italy in 1943. German military personnel were by comparison, well behaved in these occupied countries, and the Wehrmacht had strict penalties for men who raped and otherwise mistreated these women and other civilians. Many of the American soldiers who engaged in these acts were niggers, such as in the Stuttgart train station incident in 1945, while their superiors and the Allied occupation authorities either looked away or even facilitated it. Usually all we hear about is the Red Army engaging in mass rapes after Germany surrendered, but their Western allies, the British and Americans were guilty of it, too.
